Please check back next week for the rescheduled date and have a great weekend!

FIELDS
We need one more day at the fields with a bunch of helping hands to get the fields game-ready!  We have scheduled one more work day for Saturday, February 27th, 10am-1pm at Laguna Middle School.  If you are able to help, please follow this LINK and fulfill those volunteer hours before the season even starts!  If you aren't available on that day, more information on concession help, game day field prep and fundraising will be available in the coming weeks!

UMPIRES
There is a shortage of local umpires and I have been encouraged by our Umpire in Chief to find some more so that all of our games can be covered!  It would be great if one parent or coach or even a sibling from each team could be registered for this season as a back up plan if we are ever in a position of needing an umpire for a game.  Kids can umpire for a level lower than their own age (so a 12-year-old can ump for 10&under games) and generally registered umpires get paid around $25-30 per game!  This could be a great opportunity for you to get involved with less of a commitment than coaching, make a little money...plus it could be FUN!  There is an Umpire Registration being held this Sunday, February 21st, 9:00am at Evers Field in Templeton and there will be a second one held at our own Laguna fields on Sunday, February 28th, 9:00am.  It is only an hour long and costs $25.  Umpires over the age of 18 will need to bring a copy of their driver license or ID, and umpires under 18 will need a parent's signature.  Please let me know if you would like more information and hopefully I will see you there!

MASKS & HELMETS
We have an opportunity to purchase batting helmets and fielder masks through one of our vendors at a discounted price.  We have found that most people prefer to have their own helmet or mask for comfort and sanitary reasons but we do have some helmets and mask available for players who choose not to purchase their own.  There are multiple sizes and colors available so please see the links below if you are interested in either of these items.  I will be compiling an order for March 1st so if you want to purchase either of these items, please let me know by Monday, February 29th.
A32-180 Schutt Helmet - Our Team Price: $40 (List $46.95)
A33-621 Fielders Mask - Our Team Price: $35 (Retail $39.95)

ASSESSMENTS POSTPONED -- 1/30/16
We have decided to postpone the assessments due to the wet field conditions today.  Regular registration will also be extended one week.  The new assessment date will be next Saturday, February 6th at 1pm.  Hope to see you there!!!  Thank you and enjoy your weekend!

REGISTRATION & ASSESSMENTS
January is flying by and we are receiving registrations every day!  If your daughter is not signed up yet, please register HERE by January 31st.  Late registrations will be considered after that time but will incur a $25 late fee.  We will have two assessment sessions - Wed, January 27th at 4pm and Sat, January 30th at 1pm, both at the lower fields at Laguna Middle School.  These assessments should last about one hour and are very important to assist us in creating balanced teams in each age group, so please try to attend one of the sessions.  It is also a great chance for our players to shake off the dust and get their softball skills warmed up for the season.  If we get rained out on either day we will schedule one more session the following week.  Online registration ahead of time is preferred but we will be accepting paper registrations at the assessments as well.  If you know of any families that might be interested in playing softball with us this season, please feel free to pass this message along to them!

USED SOFTBALL EQUIPMENT & PANTS
How many of you have old softball pants and/or equipment sitting around that your daughter has grown out of?  If so, we would love to collect any gently used equipment (such as gloves, cleats, bats, helmets, black jersey pants) that we could then offer to other players in our league to use.  This is an awesome way to make more room at your home AND help other softball families at the same time.  Please bring any items you would like to donate to the assessments and if you are looking for used equipment, that will be the best time to check out what's available!

COACHING
As always, we are looking for coaches to lead our teams!  Volunteer coaches are a vital aspect of a successful softball season and the process can be very rewarding!  Prior coaching experience is not necessary, just a strong desire to help our players learn the fundamentals of the game, as well as discipline and the value of teamwork.  Coaching your own child can be challenging at times, but I've found that building lasting relationships with the players and families plus making memories on the field with our kids has been so worth the effort!  If you have the time and are interested, please sign up HERE or contact me for more information.

FIELD WORK DAY
Our annual field work day is scheduled for this coming Saturday, January 23rd, 10am-4pm at Laguna Middle School.  We have been watching the weather forecast change daily but it still looks like we will be able to get some clean-up done on the fields.  We are looking for volunteers to work a 3-hour shift (10-1 or 1-4) and to bring gloves, shovels, hoes and/or wheelbarrows if you've got them.  Many hands make light work so I hope many of you will be able to come out and help us get our softball fields ready for the season!  Please sign up HERE so we have an idea of how many people will be there.  Thank you so much -- your time and effort is so appreciated!!!

SPONSORSHIP
Each year we look for community members and business owners who are interested in supporting our softball league in exchange for advertising on our jerseys and fields banners as well as receiving a tax deduction.  If you are interested in this opportunity or know someone else who might be, please check out our sponsorship options HERE!

Coach Meeting: Thursday, February 11th
Coach Clinic: Saturday, February 13th
Practice starts: Monday, February 15th
First Games/Opening Day: Saturday, March 5th

More information on all of these dates will be coming later!

HELLO SOFTBALL FRIENDS & FAMILIES -- 2016 REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

We hope all of you had the happiest of holidays and are enjoying this exciting new year!  2016 softball registration is now OPEN at www.slogsa.org and we can't wait to see our returning players on the field again, along with many new players as well.  Please sign up as soon as possible so we can start planning our upcoming season and make sure to get your registration in by the end of January (late registrations will incur a $25 late fee).  Our season will start with practices in early February, then games begin in early March and continue into early May.

This year we are asking all families to volunteer 3 hours throughout the season toward concessions, field work and/or fundraising assistance.  This generous donation of time from each family will ensure that we can keep our registration fees low and continue to provide high quality fields and equipment for our players.  After the rain subsides, we will be getting together to freshen up our fields before assessments and practices begin so please mark your calendars for Saturday, January 23rd from 10am-4pm for pre-season field work.  A sign-up genius link will be sent out by the end of this week and we would greatly appreciate any assistance in this area!

If you are on this email list, you will be receiving several emails during the next couple of weeks with more information about this season.  Thank you for being part of SLOGSA, past, present or future, and please let me know if you have any questions.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DEMO DAYS INSPIRE NEW PLAYERS

Thanks so much to our middle school and high school softball players who helped plan and run our first two elementary school demo days!  Boys watched and cheered from the outfield while girls from kindergarten through 6th grade at Sinsheimer and Pacheco ran the bases, enjoyed some batting practice and threw softballs at targets to win prizes.  Lots of girls were thrilled to test out some softball skills for the first time and now we have lots of new players that were inspired to play softball with us this season.   Next year we hope to have a softball demo day at all of the elementary schools in SLO and spread the softball bug to as many girls as we can!!!

DUSTING OFF OUR GLOVES AT FIRST SLOGSA ASSESSMENT DAY OF 2015
