Want to watch Coach Take a Beating?
Want to watch Coach take a beating? Stick around for the adult games. Will coach score? Will he look like a clown? The only way to find out is to watch!!

    Schedule Changes
Sorry folks, we have some schedule changes. In order to beat sundown. The Youth Clinic will start at 2:45 as usual, but they will be on field #3. The MS game will be at 5:00 against Army on field #1.

    Jaguars 3-1
In week three, the Jaguars stepped up, and took out the Fire 5-3. Week four saw the Jaguars fall to Air Force 8-4. The Jaguars now have a 3-1 record going into week five against Army. Weeks six and seven will be tournament play weeks. How will the Jaguars do? Come watch and find out.

    Jaguars 2-0
The Jaguars opened the season with a 5-4 win over Navy. Fighting to the end, the Jaguars tied the game at 4-4 and finished it in OT with great shot from Dero. Next, the Jaguars took on North Carolina and dominated. Jordan Suarez, fresh from his Boston Cannons trip, lit it up with 4 goals. Was he wearing Powell's gloves? Final score was 8-3.

Next, we face probably our toughest challenge.... the Fire. Get you game face on Boys!!!

    Don't Forget Fall Ball

    Jaguar take the Championship
In a grueling, yet exciting, double overtime game, the Jaguar beat Navy to secure their spot in the title game against Air Force.

Speaking of that title game, the Jaguar established an early lead and never looked back. Outstanding defense, converting man-up situations to points, and take control offense marked the tremendous growth of this team over that last two months.

Congratulations on a fun summer season!!

    The New Tournament Schedule
Here is the New Tornament Schedule:
We will finish our game vs Navy at 9:30 on field #2. If we win, we play Air Force on field #1 at 12:00. If we lose to Navy, we play Army on field #1 at 11:00. Remember, al this takes place at the Joe Dimaggio sports complex at the corner of Drew and Old Coachman in Clearwater. The Youth clinic will begin at 8:30 on field #2.

    Shooters at Joe Dimaggio
Due to issues, conflicts, and weather, we will finish the season next weekend, 6/28, at the Joe Dimaggio Sports Complex, on Drew St. in Clearwater. We will finish the JLC vs Navy game which we started on 6/21, then we will play either for first place or third later that day. Directions to Joe Dimaggio are on the directions page and use the Courtney Campbell as a reference point.

    The Tournament
The #2 Jaguars will take on the #3 Navy while #1 Air Force will take on #4 Army. This all happens this Saturday, 6/21 at the Dave Martin Fields in Clearwater. Youth Clinic starts at 8:45, Jaguar Middle school division goes on at 10:00.

    What we are
The Jaguar Lacrosse Club is open to all boys in grades 4-8 at the Academy of the Holy Names and surrounding Tampa area. It is designed to be a post-season club running through May and June after the WFLL regular season. Our goal is to promote the growth of Lacrosse at AHN by providing an opportunity to play Lacrosse to those participating and not participating during the regular season.

This is a small club, so we will be limiting registration to 20 participants at the 4th - 6th grade level and 20 at the 6th-8th grade level.

If you are interested in this prospect, please email coach at mdoyle@holynamestpa.org for registration information.

    Respect the Game
    THE CREATOR'S GAME
The Game of lacrosse was given to our people by the Creator to play for his amusement. Just as a parent will gain much amusement at the sight of watching his child playing joyfully with a new gift, so it was intended that the Creator be similarly amused by viewing his "children" playing lacrosse in a manner which was so defiant of fatigue. This is our belief, and when the four Great Messengers cam, the Creator reiterated to us that his game should be played.

There is a long history of speculation about where the game of lacrosse originated, but as Natives of North America, this question has little significance. We do not wonder who invented lacrosse, or when and where; our ancestors have been playing the game for centuries - for the Creator.

Tewaarathon was not just played to call the Creator's attention to the efforst of the medicine people or simply for one's personal enjoyment and physical fitness. Tewaareathon, because it came from the Creator himself, was also played to bestow honor and respect ot these members living on Mother Earth who had done great things for the Nation. Related to this, Tewaarathon also constituted a means of offering thanksgiving to tyhe Creator for having allowed an elder or medicine person to remain with the Nation so that person could continue to share the richness of his full life with the younger members.

It is true that Tewaarathon (or lacrosse) does demand physical fitness, and participants would train for many months to prepare themselves for these important games, but what is more significant is that our people believed that all things on Mother Earth were a gift of the Creator and following the Creator's instructions. Because lacrosse was such a gift, the difficult training for Tewaarathon was not seen as a burden of work, but rather this training was enjoyed as a preparation to partaking in a precious gift. A participant in Tewaarathon believed that his ability to play was a gift itself and that the enjoyment of playing rested in freely giving his best effort. Because only the participant really knew when his effort had been well prepared and complete, the training for Tewaarathon was related to enjoying one's gift in the view of the very one who had been so generous. It is unfortunate that the fervour which our people took to the field of play was often misinterpreted by the European eye which was untrained to the relationship between the Indian, Tewaarathon, and the Creator. As for the players, in a game of such great importance, there were no bad feelings for any accidental gestures because both teams realized the sincerity of the effort.
