Beverly Hills, CA - We Are Back !

Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold
May 29, 2008

      Beverly Hills, CA –
The Winter/Spring 2008 Season was supposed to be the Law Dawgs “Back-to-Back” clincher. The Championship Game was set for May 29, 2008 vs. the #2 seed Epoch. The Dawgs had never lost to Epoch in Club history, even though each game was close. As the game got underway it seemed the Law Dawgs were going to gain another victory against their rival and clinch another title for the Club. The Dawgs had a three point lead with less than thirty seconds left in regulation and a chance to clinch it at the free throw line. After missing both shots at the strip Epoch rebounded the ball and hit a three pointer to force overtime. At the start of the overtime the Dawgs came out attacking and quickly built a seven point lead. Yet pesky Epoch would not give up and fought back to cut the deficit to three. The Dawgs had a chance to clinch once again at the line but managed to miss their free throws again. With the ball in their possession Epoch throw up an off-balanced prayer at the buzzer which was answered. With the game tied after the first over-time the teams had to play a second over time. The Dawgs once again jumped to an early lead but too many free throws and turnovers kept Epoch in the game. With sixteen seconds left and a tied score the Law Dawgs drove down the court only to turn the ball over. The Epoch steal coupled with a Law Dawgs foul lead to a three point opportunity for Epoch. Unlike the Dawgs Epoch hit their free-throw resulting in a three point lead with four seconds left. The Dawgs attempt to tie the game came up short and Epoch earned their first championship and first victory against the Law Dawgs with a final score of 62-59. The poor shooting at the free throw line (1 for 7 in overtime) coupled with careless turnovers was the cause of death for the Dawgs. Congrats go to Epoch for now, however, let it be known the Dawgs have swore to avenge their loss and regain the trophy!

Ticketmaster Helps the Dawgs Win a Ticket to the Finals.
May 22, 2008

Beverly Hills, CA – Usually smell of competition is strong in the air during playoff time and it was no different when the #1 seeded Law Dawgs took the floor against the #4 seed Ticketmaster. Their last meeting in the regular season ended 62-61 in the favor of the Dawgs and Ticketmaster was looking to avenge the bitter loss this time in a semi-final playoff match. However, for the first time in a long time the Dawgs were playing with a full roster and were looking for a chance to repeat as league champions. The game started off intensely as both teams traded baskets. Ticketmaster was exploiting the Dawgs defense and were outrebounding the Dawgs, which resulted in two or three looks at the basket on each possession for Ticketmaster. After a couple of substitutions and defensive adjustments the Dawgs regrouped and began to shut down the Ticketmaster offense. By halftime the Dawgs had a commanding 14 point lead.

The second half started off with the same intensity for the Dawgs who were determined to build on their lead. The team never looked back as they kept up the defensive pressure and scored on the other end of the floor. The final result was a 73-48 win for the Law Dawgs with every player scoring in the game. The win advances the Club to next week’s championship game against the winner of the #2 Epoch / #3 Seven match, where the Dawgs will have the opportunity to win the Club’s first back-to-back title.

End of Season Report
May 15, 2008

Century City, CA - The Law Dawgs started the Winter 2008 Season as the defending champions. When it was all said and done they stood alone at the top of the standing with a record of 10 wins and 2 losses. However, the first loss was due to the game being stopped because of “fan interference” which resulted in a double forfeit; and the second loss was in a game where only four Dawgs suited up for the game. The season was also injury filled that depleted the roster. As a result there were only about three games where the Club was at full force. None of this stopped the Law Dawgs from clinching the #1 seed going into the playoffs. The success of the Club will be meaningless unless they win in the playoffs, stay tuned …

Numer One! Number One!
March 17, 2008
Palm Springs, CA -  The Law Dawgs Basketball Club was well represented in Palm Springs, California during the Hoop World 3on3 Tournament on March 15-16, 2008. The highlight of the tournament was the “Ballers” whom competed in the kids division. With the help and guidance of their coach Bernie Ghermezi the team was able to finish the first day of the tournament undefeated. The second day also started on a positive note when the Ballers blew out the competition scoring sixteen straight points to win the game with the final score of 16-2. With the win they were guaranteed the #1 seed going into the playoffs. During the championship game the Ballers faced a much bigger team; however that did not deter the squad from playing with style and grace. After it was all said and done the Ballers were proclaimed the champions, finishing the tournament with an impressive record of 5-0.  A big congratulation to Jonathan, Guillermo, Jared, Avi and Coach Bernie on their impressive run to the championships!

Law Dawgs Win Their First Title!!
December 13, 2007

Beverly Hills, CA - After making it to the championship game for three years in a row and coming up short the Law Dawgs were determined to bring home the Club's first championship. The successful regular season would not have any meaning if the end result was another finals loss. Hence, when the 3-time defending champions Varsity took the floor the Law Dawgs were planning to dethrone them. The game started off slow with both teams playing tenacious defense. At half-time the score was 21-20 in the favor of the Dawgs. The second half also featured some great defense, however, the Dawgs managed to open up the scoring. Edward Hardy, II played at his usual all-star level. Along with the Dawgs' other big man, Hovhannes Nalbandyan, they scored a combined 39 points and lead the Dawgs to a 57-43 victory over their arch rivals Varsity. Congratulations to the entire Law Dawgs organization for their first championship, with wishes of many more in the future.

Season Notes - Edward Hardy was the team and league MVP leading all scores with a season average of 23.9 points a game. Hovhannes Nalbandyan won league rookie of the year AND sixth man of the year while averaging 9.3 points a game. Sam Ghahremanpour improved his free-throw tremendously from his average last year, which also helped the Dawgs in many games. Mike Mgdesyan was a consistent scoring threat the entire season with an average of 14.5 points a game. The Law Dawgs set a new franchise record for consecutive wins at 8.

Winning Streak Ends at 8
November 29, 2007
Beverly Hills, CA - The Law Dawgs put their franchise record 8 game winning streak on the line against their arch rivals Varsity. The last game of the regular season was also a rematch of last year's championship game and maybe a preview of this year's championships game as well. Both Varsity and the Law Dawgs were coming off a two week break from league action due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The Law Dawgs started the game off strong and jumped out to a 10 point lead. However, after some hard work by Varsity the score at the half was tied 28-28. The second half was close with a number of lead changes, until the last 4 minutes of the game. The Law Dawgs were ahead by 5 points when Varsity went on a 9-2 run and never looked back. The Law Dawgs had three opportunities to tie the game in the last minute of play but could not capitalize. Varsity was victorious 56-52 and tied the season series 1-1. Both teams finished the season with an 8-2 record, with he Law Dawgs winning the tie breaker.
The Playoff are set to begin on December 6, 2007. #4 Seven plays #4 Epoch at 6:45 PM, #2 Varsity will take on #3 No Name at 7:45 PM. The #1 Law Dawgs will take on the winner of the Seven/Epoch game at 8:45 PM. Good luck to all the teams, stay tuned for more ...

Season Update
October 11, 2007
Beverly Hills, CA - The start of the season was not a very pleasant experience for the Law Dawgs. Having lost players to injury and off-court dilemmas, the Law Dawgs could only suite up four players for the season opener. The squad kept it close and was down by 1 at half time. However, stamina caught up to the Dawgs and the game was lost. After a couple of administrative moves by the league office two new teams were promoted from Division 2 and two teams were relegated down.
When the dust settled and all Clubs were ready to play the Law Dawgs took to the floor against a less talented UBS team. Without their best players, the Dawgs had a hard time but were able to pull of the victory, evening their record to 1-1. October started with a win for the Law Dawgs without the club having to due anything. This was due their opponent forfeiting a much anticipated game. On October 11, 2007, the Law Dawgs witnessed the return of Ed Hardy to the squad. The game featured the newly promoted Epoch squad, whom wanted to prove they belong in the higher division. After a dreadful performance in the first half the Dawgs started the second half with some good team play and took over the lead. Ed Hardy demonstrated why he is the most feared Law Dawg by scoring 22 points, including two monster dunks, and the Law Dawgs improved their record to 3-1.
The Club faces great challenge in their next game when they take on the defending champions Varsity, who are undefeated with a 4-0 record. This rematch of last year's championship game should be an interesting test for the Law Dawgs. Stay tuned  ...

Law Dawgs Introduce Their #1 Draft Pick
July 12, 2007

Beverly Hills, CA - After a long wait the Law Dawgs finally decided to call up their #1 draft pick to suit up for the team against the hated Westside. Quincy Davis was drafted by the front office prior to the beginning of the season, however, he had not played a single minute. He made his Law Dawgs debut in the middle of the second half sporting his #1 jersey. It was not until the second half when Davis took over the game and dominated an outmatched Westside team in the paint. Davis finished the night with 17 points which included five monster dunks, three of which were on Westside players. When asked how he felt about his team debut Quincy said: "The best part was to be able to play along side my big brother Ed." The Law Dawgs defeated Westside with a score of 42-37 and improved their record to 8-4.
