Lee Football takes it on the Chin
October 5, 2008 The Lee Youth Football program took it on the chin on Sunday on another beautiful fall afternoon at Reid Middle School in Pittsfield. The Lee PeeWee, Junior and Senior teams all fell to tough CYC Gold teams. The Saints used a strong running game and tenacious defense throughout the day to stifle the South County boys. Turnovers again cost Lee mightly as the Saints turned fumbles into points in each of the contests. The Lee PeeWee team was led by Michael Hurley who scored the PeeWee's only touchdown on a 55 yard scamper down the right sideline. In the Junior game, Lee gave the ball to the "TANK", Tyler Buratto, who moved the ball well for the Cougars throughout the day. Lee got some more strong defensive work from Jake Brunell, James Allentuck and Cam Abderhalden. The Big Orange will return to action on Sunday, October 12th as they travel to Hurricane Country to take on an always tough Cheshire program. Game times are 11AM- 1PM- and 3PM.

Chargers outrun Lee
September 28, 2008 The Lee PeeWee Football team got outrun by the South Berkshire Chargers on Sunday at Consolati Field in Lee. The two teams traded punches all afternoon as the South County rivals tried to outrun each other in an 18-14 South Berkshire victory. Lee got touchdown runs of 65 yards from Jordan Castegnaro and three yards from Hunter Roosa along with a two point conversion form Luke Bartini. It wasn't enough however as South Berkshire ran off three sixty yard runs of its own to account for all their scoring. Lee struggled to move the ball all day on offense and saw their defense stuff the Chargers twice inside the red zone. On one series, the Charges had the ball on the Lee three yard line and ran off four plays only to be denied. Lee saw big tackles in that series from Michael "the hit man" Hurley, Luke Bartini, Patrick Finnegan and Ryan Ruef. Lee returns to action on Sunday in its first road game of the year as they travel to Pittsfield. Gametime is 11:00 AM.

Hunter takes it in !!

Lee Pee Wee's Knockout North Adams
September 21, 2008 The Lee PeeWee football team rebounded from last weeks tough loss to Pittsfield with a solid effort against always tough North Adams. The sun was again shining on Sunday at Consolati Field as Lee jumped out to an early 8-0 lead set up by some nice running from Jordan Castegnaro and Lukas Loehr. Lee moved the ball to the North Adams 25 yard line before the coaches went to the gadget play and fooled North Adams on a double reverse with speedster Michael Hurley taking it in on a twenty-five yard run. Luke Bartini would then bust up the middle on a nice second effort for the two point conversion. In the second quarter Lee again moved the ball deep into North Adams territory before the drive stalled. The North County boys would then strike big with a sixty-five yard touchdown run to cut into the Lee lead. The conversion attempt failed with Lee holding a 8-6 lead at halftime. In the 3rd quarter Lee moved the ball all the way to the North Adams two yard line before coughing up the pigskin giving North Adams the ball. The Big Orange defense for Lee then took over as #29 Ryan Ruef came up with a big sack forcing North Adams to punt after four downs. On the ensuing play from their own 35 yard line, Jordan Castegnaro then pulled off a 65 yard touch down run for Lee after getting two big blocks from Luke Bartini. Bartini then drove it in on the conversion attempt to put Lee up 16-6. North Adams would take over after the kick off and move the ball down field to the Lee 45 yard line. It looked like the N. Adams drive would stall as Ryan Reuf, Jake Corcoran and Patrick Finnegan of Lee came up with three big tackles behind the line of scrimmage to push North Adams all the way back to their own 40 yeard line. The Big Blue would then throw a scare into Lee as they scored on a 65 yard power sweep to cut the lead to 16-12 would time winding down. The two point conversion was stopped and Lee would then run out the clock to push their record to 2-1. The Lee defense stood tall all day getting some big tackles from Matt Lohbauer, Jake Corcoran, Mike Downer, Bryce Whalen, Finnegan and Ruef. Lee will host their always tough rival, South Berkshire, on Sunday at 11:00 AM at Consolati Field. WOOOOOOOO !!!!

Juniors fall to North Adams
September 21, 2008 The Lee Cougars Junior football team took it on the chin Sunday in a hard fought battle against North Adams at John Consolati Field in Lee. The Cougars moved the ball well throughout the afternoon but only managed to bang the ball home in the second quarter on a four yard run by Javon Moran. North Adams would answer in the second half with two touchdowns of it's own to go ahead 14-6. Lee saw some good defense from Jake Brunnell, Cam Abderhalden and Will Wellspeak. The Cougars fall to 0-2 after a bye last week and hope to get in the win column on Sunday as they host South County rival South Berkshire at Consolati Field in Lee at 1:00 PM

Pee Wee's Come Up Short against Pittsfield Blue
September 14, 2008 It was another sunny day in Lee as the Lee PeeWee's hosted Pittsfield Blue in a Sunday morning BCYF League tilt. Lee had difficulty getting things going in the first quarter and fell behind 6-0 on some nice running plays by the boys from Pittsfield. Lee fought back however and moved the ball into Pittsfield territory in the second quarter on a great 20 yard run by Hunter Roosa. Two plays later Lee was on the board as Lukas Loehr broke free up the middle and scored on a forty yard touchdown run. The boys in orange converted the two point play to take a 8-6 lead. Pittsfield wouldn't die and came storming back with two more touchdowns in the final two periods. Lee would get the ball into the endzone one more time however when Michael Hurley sprinted down the right side on a 45 yard run. The conversion attempt failed to cut the Pittsfield lead to 18-14. The Lee defense did however force a Pittsfield fumble in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter but were unable to get the ball into the endzone. Lee will host North Adams on Sunday at John Consolati Field in Lee. Gametime is 11:00 AM.

PEEWEE'S POWER PAST LANESBORO
September 7, 2008 The 2008 Lee PeeWee Football team came out flying Sunday on a beautiful sunny morning at John Consolati Field in Lee. The Lee PeeWee's came out for the 2008 season as one after playing with split squads last year, and boy did it show. Lee moved the ball well all afternoon and got two big touchdown runs of thirty yards and twenty yards from Jordan Castegnaro and a seventy yard scamper from Lukas Loehr. Luke Bartini also converted a two point conversion for Lee and led the charge on the defensive side of the ball for the boys in orange. Lee also got great contributions on defense and offense from Matt Lohbauer, Riley Thomas, Patrick Finnegan, Ryan Ruef and Bryce Whalen. The boys in orange will be home on Sunday at 11:00 AM as they face Pittsfield Blue at John Consolati Field.

COUGARS ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE COUNTY- DONE !!
November 4, 2007 The Red Sox waited 86 years, the Chicago Cubs are still waiting, for the Lee Cougars and Lee Youth Football, the seventeen year wait is over. The Lee Cougars Junior Football team won the 2007 Berkshire County Youth Football Championship on Sunday at John Consolati Field defeating the Lanesboro Tigers 12-6. Not since November of 1990 when Lee defeated Dalton by the same 12-6 score have the boys in black and orange hoisted the Berkshire County Youth Football Championship trophy. On a sunny but brisk day, defense was the word throughout the first half as both Lee and Lanesboro struggled to hold onto the ball. The Cougars and the Tigers both moved the ball into each others half of the field only to see their drives stopped by fumbles. Lanesboro finally managed some ground late in the second half as Robby Buffis went on a big 22 yard run to the Lee thirty yard line but the drive stalled as the half ended with no score. In the third quarter Lee took the opening kickoff and then went three and out but gained good field position after a booming Kevin Hopsicker punt pinned the Tigers on their own seveteen yardline. After some more tough Lee defense, Lanesboro was forced to punt giving the Cougars the ball on the Tigers forty yardline. Matty Kelly then took over the Lee ground game and moved the ball to the Lanesboro twenty seven yardline. Kelly then went on another seventeen yard run to put the ball at the Lanesboro ten yardline. Lee came right back with the same play and Kelly took the ball right going untouched into the endzone to put Lee on the board. After the conversion attempt failed, Lanesboro tried to answer right back taking the kick to their own thirty-seven before the Cougars steel curtain shut things down forcing the Tigers to punt again. On the ensuing punt the Lee line broke through and blocked the punt giving the Cougars the ball first and ten on the Lanesboro thirty yardline to start the fourth quarter. On first and ten from the thirty, Lee again went their ground game and again Matty Kelly followed some big blocks up front and dashed thirty yards to put Lee up 12-0. The Tigers would not say die however and on fourth and one from their own forty-five yard line took the ball fifty-five yards on the run with 1:29 to play to cut the Lee lead to 12-6. The conversion attempt was stopped. After Lanesboro tried an onside kick that was covered by Kevin Hopsicker, it looked like Lee could just run out the clock. On first and ten from it's own forty-eight Lee put the ball on the ground and Matty Kelly was given a big Tiger pop that forced the fumble and Lanesboro recovered on the Lee forty-five yard line. The Cougars defense would save their best for last though, as they pushed Lanesboro back and held off the Tigers with some tough pass defense as Lanesboro went to the air. As time ran out the Tigers attmepted on more pass down field but the ball was knocked away and seveteen years of waiting was over. Final score Lee 12 Lanesboro 6. Congratulations to the Lee Cougars players, head coach Jason Hopkins, assistants Jim Finnegan, Jason Bliss, Eric Wamsley and Brian Schaeffer on a perfect 8-0 season and a long awaited Berkshire County Youth Football Championship. DONE !!!!!!! Go to our photo album tab for more Championship Sunday photos.

Charlie's Angels visit Black n' Orange Bowl II
October 21, 2007 The celebrities were out in force on Sunday at the Lee Youth Football Black n' Orange Bowl II. Our eye spy spotted Charlies' Angels taking in the game and some sun up on the hill at Consolati Field. Our cameraman also had difficulty finding the phantom Cleveland Indian fan who appeared last week at the Lee games. Our sincere condolences go out to our honorable clerk magistrate, Tom Bartini, on his teams heart breaking collapse. Time to put that antique Indians hat back in the closet Tom !!!!!!!!
