Central Milling has long been part of Utah history. Established in 1867, it is one of the oldest companies in Utah still in business today.
Central Milling Company has been a leading producer of flour in this area for more than 130 years with the use of the roller mill system. In the early years of operation a water powered turbine, driven by a diversion of the Logan River, was used to power the mill until the implementation of an electrical system in 1975. The river still runs under the building to this day. The mill is now controlled with Programmable Logic Controllers which aid in monitoring every function of the milling process.
In 1917, Herbert R. Weston acquired ownership after buying out the fifty shareholders that had founded the mill. Herbert and the Weston family operated the mill for over eighty years. The Westons carried the tradition of flour milling all the way through the 20th Century, and have long been famous for their Golden West Flour, Red Rose Flour and Premium Pancake Flour.
In August 1997, a beneficial change occurred for both the Weston family and the mill. Wheatland Seed of Brigham City, Utah and Giusto's Specialty Foods of San Francisco, California acquired ownership of the mill and brought the business of organic flour milling to the area. The current owners are determined to continue this long tradition of quality flour milling for many years to come. Central Milling Company remains committed to producing some the best organic and conventional flours in the country.
