History
Hitchins New Zealand Ltd has its origins dated back to 1932 when Mr Graham W. Hitchins first founded W.Graham Hitchins Ltd and pioneered the research of long lasting waterproofing and decorative coatings for the New Zealand building industry. Hitchins was the first in New Zealand to have successfully developed and marketed multi-layered high build elastomeric waterproofing coating. The famous products like Gunac, Formrok, Sealflex and Traffigard etc. are still well known names in the industry and many buildings are and will continued to be protected by these systems.
Hitchins grew from strength to strength, based on the research of Hitchins Research Laboratory, developed many innovative systems in protective coatings, textures, flooring and industrial environment. Many more Hitchins companies were founded around the world. Since the passing away of Mr Graham W. Hitchins, the various Hitchins companies have become independently owned. Hitchins New Zealand Ltd now services all of New Zealand and the Pacific Islands and a close liaison is maintained with the other affiliated Hitchins companies.
Vision
Today, Hitchins expands the visionary approach of its founder, by introducing to New Zealand market innovative products from around the world which enhance the value of property at a reasonable cost by providing a long term protective and decorative solutions to the need of property owners and specifiers.
Hitchins was the first to promote a range of truly environmentally-friendly silicate paint finishes successfully in the commercial and residential markets of New Zealand back in 1992 when others were still arguing about the benefits and viability of environmental friendly products.
Hitchins continues with this trend setting approach to a wide range of products, including: A flexible, coloured texture which emulates natural stone (Ceramitz); an iridescent, metallic finish (Lumiere); a marble-smooth Venetian colour plaster (Vixalit); a new state of art torch down waterproofing membrane, with triple reinforcement and fabric topping (INDEX Protea Duo) and many more to come.
Projects
Hitchins, in co-operation with our Gunac applicator network, have been servicing the building industry over 60 years. Projects range from small residential work to major government and commercial complexes. Some of the more prominent projects include: The Assembly Library, Parliament of New Zealand (Wellington), the Metropolis (tallest apartments building in Auckland), the new Royal Sun Alliance Building, (Auckland), Ascot Hospital (Remuera), Rydges Hotel (Auckland), The Points (American Cup Village) and numerous others.

Hitchins provides technical support to specifiers and contractors through provision of product information, solutions to waterproofing and decorative queries, site and office visits, written reports, customised specifications, detail drawings, samples, cost estimations, liaison with applicators and product warranties.
