Cadet Leadership School

Cadets have opportunities to study advanced leadership concepts in three settings:

Cadet Officer School - The premiere leadership experience for CAP cadets is conducted annually at Maxwell AFB, home of the USAF's Air University.

Region Cadet Leadership Schools - These academies make use of local resources to broaden leadership skills in cadet officers and NCOs. To learn more about RCLS opportunities.

The CAP Officer Course (AFIADL 13) - This introductory course is completed via correspondence, through a special partnership with the USAF Institute for Advanced Distrubted Learning.

CADET LEADERSHIP

CADET LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

Cadet Orientation Flying

Orientation Flights
The Cadet Orientation Flight (COF) program is designed to introduce our youth, under 18 years old, to general aviation through hands-on orientation flights in single engine aircraft and gliders.

Complete details about the COF program are found in CAPP 52-7, Cadet Orientation Flight Syllabus.

The CAPC 77, Certificate of First Flight, which is attached to CAPP 52-7, is available as a full color certificate. You would request this certificate the same way you request other CAP forms or certificates - with a CAPF 8, Requisition for Publications and Blank Forms (send the CAPF 8 to the address listed on the form).

All COFs are reimbursed at the rates published in CAPR 173-3, Payment for Civil Air Patrol Support.

Your Region Commander manages the allocation of funds to the wings. Your Wing Commander, or his/her designee, manages the flying program for your wing and may issue further guidance (for example: allowing duplicate rides, establishing ferrying times, etc.).

If you are planning on flying cadets in a military aircraft, please click here to download and read the latest memo from our National Commander (Adobe PDF format).

FREE Cadet Uniforms

Free Cadet Uniforms
The Free Cadet Uniform (FCU) program provides an opportunity for new cadets to receive a basic blue uniform (shirt, pants or skirt, belt, buckle, and hat) at no cost to them. New cadets simply need to complete the FCU voucher attached to their Application for Cadet Membership (CAPF 15), and mail their membership application/FCU voucher to the address indicated on the application form.

Scholarships For School and Flying

Scholarships -- Money Available for School and Flying
FREE MONEY FOR SCHOOL AND FLYING- It doesn't get any simpler than that! Each year, Civil Air Patrol provides academic and flight scholarships to deserving cadets and seniors who meet eligibility requirements. Over $300,000.00 is available. Many of the scholarships go unused – apply today!
Again this year, members may track their application’s status on-line (scroll to bottom). Applications will still be submitted via U.S. Mail, as that remains the best way to send test scores, letters of reference, etc. Some of the benefits of the new on-line system include:

User-Friendly. Members may check their application’s status to see when it was received and note whether it is complete or incomplete.
Manager-Friendly. Unit commanders and Directors of Cadet Programs at every level may monitor applications from members in their units.
Saves Money. By reducing the need to correspond with applicants via U.S. Mail, CAP saves money and provides better service, especially to members who change their ma

The Hawk Mountain Ground Search and Rescue School and the Ranger Training Facility are managed by the Civil Air Patrol's Pennsylvania Wing's Operations Section, a unit of the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary.

Located about 1.5 hours North of Philadelphia, PA, (directions) Hawk Mountain trains Cadets and Senior Members from around the country. The Cadet and Senior member instructors have received extensive training in preparation to the activity.

CAP/Nat'l. Blue Beret (video)

For cadets age 16 and above, and selected senior members, the National Blue Beret (NBB) offers the chance to work at one of the largest and most prestigious air shows in the world.

NBB participants must already have at least their CAPF 101 General Emergency Services rating prior to NBB. The CAPF 101T annotated for Ground Team Member, the CAPF 76 and a current standard first aid card are highly desirable.

CAP/Air Force Pararescue School (video)

The Pararescueman’s creed is, “That others may live.” For generations they have gone where few others dare, to rescue the fallen behind enemy lines.

The Pararescue Orientation Course is a one-week course planned and conducted by Air Force active duty, reserves, the 342nd TRS and the US Air Force Pararescue Jumpers School. The course introduces cadets to techniques used by Air Force pararescuemen while actively participating in various facets of Air Force pararescue training. Curriculum includes land navigation, survival techniques, rock climbing, rappelling, and other skills used in rescue operations.

You must be in good to above average physical condition for this program. A physical fitness test will be administered at the start of the activity, and the instructor will send home any cadet who cannot meet the physical standards. Cadets will be doing a lot of calisthenics and running while at PJOC.

United States Air Force Academy

You can go to college anywhere. But if you’re like the individuals that come to the U.S. Air Force Academy, you’re searching for something more – knowledge.

It’s something greater than the knowledge that comes with a degree, or even a world-class education. It is a knowledge born of confidence, experience and integrity – confidence that comes with surpassing your personal best; experience in seeing your leadership help others rise above their fears; and the integrity that lies deep in the heart of every Air Force officer.

Our graduates leave here with the knowledge that they have just accomplished something few men or women are brave enough to attempt. And if you ask any one of them, they'll tell you – knowledge is power.

Discover it yourself.

U.S.A.F. Pararescue School

Kirtland AFB, New Mexico...home of the USAF Pararescue School. This is the best part of the training. Here is where you put everything together. You will get advanced medical training (upgrade to either EMT-Intermediate or EMT-Paramedic), technical rescue training, field operations, tactics, air operations and advanced parachuting including tree jumps and scuba jumps.

Overview of USAF Pararescue School

MEDICAL

MEDICAL PHASE:

Medical phase now consists of upgrade to the National Registry of EMT's Intermediate level, or Paramedic level. We used to get our own specialized training, but since we now do a lot of ride alongs, it is much better to be certified with the NREMT since virtually all states recognize it's standards and procedures.

Techniques for airborne and ground ELT searches

DF Techniques

In this area, we will place information on how to use both our equipment and other types to locate ELTs and other RF signal sources. The two currently available have been part of our manuals for some time but still should be useful.

The first one is "Air and Ground Direction Finding" which contains considerable theory of DF and emphasizes "out in the boondocks" operations.

The second is "Locating Non-distress ELTs and EPIRBs" which concentrates on the more common problems of finding ELTs in hangars, marinas, buildings and other populated areas.

Cradle Of Aviation

For over a century, from the first flights by frail biplanes on the Hempstead Plains, to man’s walking on the Moon, Long Island has been on the leading edge of America’s aviation and space adventure.
Long Islanders have helped transform aviation from a spectator sport to a major means of commercial transportation. We have also produced a large portion of America’s aerial arsenal in time of war. The many historic flights that transpired here, and the many aviation companies that developed here, helped make aviation the integral part of our world that it is today. This museum is proof that our dreams can come true. But what is so astonishing is that they can come true so quickly.
