Alpha School Field
FROM DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH AREA:
1. Take the McKnight Rd. (Truck Route 19 North) exit off 279 North and go approximately 6 miles. At the intersection of Peebles and McKnight Rd. (past Ross Park Mall & Northway Mall) you will see McIntyre Square to your right. Go through this intersection and before the next light (approx. 1/5 mile) take the road that veers to the right. This is Babcock Blvd. Follow this road for 1 mile. After the light at Babcock and Duncan Ave., drive past La Roche College entrance to the next driveway turn right (between two stone pillars) before the lake on the right. At the top of the hill look for large green sign and follow arrows to Kearns. Park in the Kearns Center parking lot past the white garages. The Alpha School is in the main building on the north side of the 5 story castle looking building, the school and Convent. Ring the bell at the back door of the Convent for admittance, it is a double glass door.
2. Follow Route 279 North to EXIT 15 Camphorn Rd, (5 miles) Make a right-hand turn off the exit onto the Green Belt. Alpha is 5 miles from this exit. Follow the Green Belt.signs for five lights. At the first light the Green Belt will be a right-hand turn; the second light-turn right; third light-straight; fourth light-straight. After the fourth light get into the left-hand turning lane. At the fifth light make a left turn onto McKnight Road. (Here you will leave the Green Belt). Before the next light (approx. 1/5 mile) take the road that veers to the right. This is Babcock Blvd, Follow this road for one mile. After the light at Babcock and Duncan Ave., drive past La Roche College entrance to the next driveway and turn right (between two stone pillars) past the lake on the left. At the top of the hill look for large green sign and follow arrows to Kearns. Park in the Kearns Center parking lot past the white garages. FROM ROUTE 8:
Follow the Green Belt signs. Coming north turn left at Duncan Ave. (Next light after Elfinward) . Auld Lumber Co. is on the left. Traveling south, turn right at Duncan Ave, (next light after Harts Run Rd.). At the first stop sign continue to follow the Green Belt straight up the hill. At the second stop sign bear right and continue to follow the Green Belt. At the light leave the Green Belt (the Green Belt turns left) and continue straight ahead on Duncan Ave. for approximately 1/2 mile (You will see the Provincial House and the La Roche College campus to your right). At the intersection of Duncan Ave. and Babcock Blvd., (there is a light at this intersection) turn right. Drive past La Roche College entrance to the next driveway and turn right (between two stone pillars) before the lake on the right. At the top of the hill look for large green sign and follow arrows to Kearns. Park in the Kearns Center parking lot past the white garages. The Alpha School is in the main building on the north side of the 5 story castle looking building, the school and Convent. FROM ROUTE 19 NORTH:
Follow Route 19 south and take the McKnight Road (Truck Route 19) exit off of Route 19. At the fourth light get into the turning lane and make a left onto Cumberland Road (You will see a sign for Passavant Hospital). At the next light make a right onto Babcock Blvd. Drive past a lake (on the left) and get into the turning lane. Turn left into driveway (between two stone pillars). At top of driveway look for large green sign and follow arrows to Kearns. The Center is left of the parking lot.
FROM ROUTE 79 SOUTH:
Right onto Mt. Nebo exit; Follow the Yellow Belt - up hill and down. Turn left onto Arndt to top of hill. Turn left onto Reiss. At 4-way Stop, go through stop sign. Bear to the right and Reiss becomes Ingomar Hgts.- Ingomar Road. Follow Ingomar Road to the light at the intersection of Route 19, and Ingomar (Writ & Wisdom Book Store will be on the right). Go straight through light and look for signs for ramp to McKnight Road-south. Get onto McKnight and at the second-light get in, the left-hand turning lane and turn left onto Cumberland Road. At the next light, turn right onto Babcock Blvd. Drive past a lake (on the left) and get into the turning lane. Turn left into driveway (between two stone pillars). At top of driveway look for large green sign and follow arrows to Kearns. The Center is left of the parking lot.
Field Location:
If you are looking at the pond from Babcock Blvd., across from
the driveway leading up to Stirker Field, it sits to the left before Passavant Hospital and to the left of La Roche College. To get to the field, please pass behind the Providence Heights Mother house and follow signs for "Kettler Hall" (Alpha gym). Please use the parking lot behind Kettler Hall and walk to the field (playground is located right beside the field).
