Knights Season Ends With 12-4 Loss To Arcadia
June 3, 2008 The Knights lost 12-4 to Greece Arcadia in the Section V AA semifinals. Christian Segar went 3-for-4 with a RBI for McQuaid (16-7).
Congratulations to Coach Jim Purtell and assistant-coach Dan Bower on a fine season and for their time and commitment to the team.
 


Knights Rally to Beat Webster-Thomas 6-5
Senior Joe Dugan singled home senior Roger Strong in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Knights a 6-5 lead. Senior Ryan Houghtalen hit a two-run single in the fifth as the Knights scored four runs in the inning to tie the score at 5.
Houghtalen struck out seven over the final 2 2/3 innings to earn the win. He also finished 2-for-3 with three RBI for the Knights (16-6). McQuaid plays Greece Arcadia in the Section V Class AA semi-finals on Tuesday at Greece Athena High School at 5:00.
Pat Moore went 3-for-3 for Webster-Thomas (11-12).

Knights Finish Regular Season as Class AA Second Seed
May 26, 2008 McQuaid is seeded second in Section V Class AA and will play seventh seeded Webster-Thomas at 4:30 Friday, May 30 at McQuaid.


Knights Defeat Frannies in Extra Innings
May 24, 2008
McQuaid  8, St. Francis (Buffalo Section VI)  7
The Knights won an exciting (and tense!) back and forth ten inning game played in Buffalo on the Lake Erie shore.

McQuaid's Billy Swift scored on an infield grounder in the top of the sixth inning to send the game to extra innings. The Knights scored three more runs in the top of the eighth, but St. Francis responded with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Roger Strong scored the game-winning run in the top of the tenth off of a Ralph Alloco single. St. Francis had a runner on second in the bottom of the tenth, but Mike Kazley struck out the final batter to end the game. Kazley pitched 5 1/3 innings to gain the win. Strong finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored for McQuaid (15-6). St. Francis is 21-5.



Knights Lose to Aquinas Again
May 23, 2008 McQuaid had another off day with the bats as they were beaten 5-2 by Aquinas.  The Little Irish scored four runs in the top of the sixth to break a 1-1 tie and take a 5-1 lead. Christian Segar led the Knights (14-6) with a triple and a solo home run.




Knights Topple Kings 18-4
May 19, 2008 Graham Sullivan went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and Matt Barry was 2-for-3 with two RBI to lift the Knights over Bishop Kearney.
Ryan Houghtalen pitched four innings to pick up the win for McQuaid (14-5).


McQuaid 21 Monroe 2
May 17, 2008 Graham Sullivan pitched a four-hitter and struck out eleven to lead McQuaid. Luke Severski went 3-for-4 with four RBI and Mike Brownyard hit his second home run of the season for the Knights (13-5).

Knights Slam Spartans
May 16, 2008
McQuaid defeated Gates-Chili  9-1 in a game highlighted by two home runs by McQuaid junior Christian Segar. Segar playing in his first game since injuring a hamstring during the Florida trip last month, connected for a solo homer in the first inning and then hit a grand slam in the second inning to give the Knights a quick 7-0 lead. Segar finished with 5 RBI.
Roger Strong pitched a complete game six-hitter with 7 K's to earn the win for McQuaid (12-5).


Barons Upend Knights 5-4 In Battle of Brighton
May 13, 2008 McQuaid lost a heartbreaker to Brighton in a game played at Buckland Park. The Barons jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings. The Knights then chipped away with a run in the 4th and two more in the 5th to tie the game at 3. McQuaid then took its first lead, 4-3, in the 6th on Roger Strong's triple that scored Mike Kazley. Brighton came back to tie the score with a run in the bottom of the 6th and then scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th without the benefit of a base hit. The Knights are now 11-5 on the season.


Knights Romp Over Spartans
May 10, 2008 The Knights completed a sweep of Williamsville North as they won the nightcap 20-2.  Mike Kazley pitched a complete game and also hit a home run for McQuaid (11-4).


Knights Blank Williamsville North 4-0
May 10, 2008 In the first game of a doubleheader with Williamsville North (Buffalo-Section VI), McQuaid broke up a scoreless game by scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th.
With the Knights leading 1-0 on Billy Swift's RBI single, Joe Dugan laid down a suicide-squeeze bunt that scored both Swift and Roger Strong from 2nd base. Strong rounded third and continued home on the throw to first, which just nipped Dugan. McQuaid increased its lead to 4-0 with an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th, as Ryan Houghtalen belted a double to deep center and then scored on Adam Sullivan's single.
Strong pitched a complete game shutout to gain the win. The Knights improved to 10-4


McQuaid 16 Charlotte 3
May 8, 2008 Senior Graham Sullivan pitched a complete game, striking out 11. Sullivan also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI. Roger Strong went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored and Mike Brownyard hit a two-run homer for McQuaid (9-4).

Knights Top SOTA
May 6, 2008

McQuaid (8-4) defeated SOTA 10-4 as Ryan Houghtalen went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and a RBI, Ralph Alloco was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Joe Dugan hit a solo home run. Ryan Clancy pitched a complete game to pick up the win for the Knights.



HF-L Downs McQuaid 4-2
The Knights lost a tough game against HF-L, as they continued their hitting slump with only three hits against the Cougars.
Mike Brownyard was 2-3 with a RBI and Roger Strong had a RBI double. McQuaid is now 7-4 overall and 2-4 against non-city teams.



Lethargic Knights Humbled by Bishop Kearney 12-7
May 3, 2008 McQuaid's listless play continued as they were soundly beaten by Kearney. The lone highlight for the Knights was a grand slam home run by Dave Richardson in the 7th inning. The Knights are now 7-3.


Knights Tame Wildcats 27-8
May 1, 2008 John Weinmann was 2-for-4 with two RBI for McQuaid (7-2).
Joe Dugan had 11 strikeouts for the Knights and pitched six innings for the win..

McQuaid Falls to Aquinas
April 26, 2008 The Knights had a rough day against their archrival Aquinas in all aspects, as they were defeated 11-2, in a game called after 41/2 innings because of lightning. McQuaid jumped out to 2-0 lead in the first inning and had a couple of great opportunities to increase their lead over the next few innings, but couldn't come up with the big hit. The Little Irish scored three runs in the third to take the lead, and then scored eight more in the fourth inning.
The Knights dropped to 6-2 on the season.



McQuaid Blanks Edison
April 22, 2008 The Knights defeated Edison 10-0, as Joe Valerino celebrated his 17th birthday by hitting a three-run homer in the 2nd inning.
Matt Barry was 2-2 with two stolen bases. Roger Strong pitched five innings and allowed one hit. McQuaid improved to 6-1 on the season.



Knights Defeat Penn Yan on Balk
April 18, 2008
McQuaid defeated Penn Yan 6-5 in a game played at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando. The Knights led 5-2 after five innings but Penn Yan rallied to tie the game in the top of the 7th. McQuaid then scored the winning run when the Penn Yan pitcher was called for a balk with a runner on third base.
Graham Sullivan pitched five innings and allowed two runs. Joe Dugan had two hits for the Knights. McQuaid is now 5-1.


Knights Lose to Hilton
April 17, 2008
McQuaid lost 7-2, to a scrappy Hilton team in a game played at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando. The Knights were down 2-0 after the first inning and then chipped away scoring solo runs in the 4th and 5th innings, to tie the score. Hilton took a 3-2 lead with a run in the top of the 6th, then added four more in the 7th to put the game away. Ryan Houghtalen pitched a complete game six-hitter and struck out 11 for McQuaid.
The Knights are now 4-1 on the season..


Knights Edge Spencerport 8-6
April 15, 2008 McQuaid jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead and then fell behind 3-1,  before rallying to take a 4-3 lead after four innings. The Knights then increased their lead to 8-3, by adding two runs in the 5th, and two in the 6th. Spencerport rallied in the top of the 7th with a two out, three-run homer to make things interesting. The Rangers then loaded the bases with three straight walks before Mike Kazley came on to get the final out with a fly ball to left. Roger Strong pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed four hits to gain the win.
Ryan Houghtalen had two hits and two RBI for McQ, Christian Segar had two hits, Joe Valerino had a RBI triple, and Billy Swift started the Knights three run rally in the 4th with a double. McQuaid improved its record to 4-0.

April 8, 2008 Ryan Houghtalen, Graham Sullivan, and Ryan Clancy combined on a three-hitter with 14 K's as McQ shutout Freddie Thomas, 18-0.
Leading hitters: Joe Valerino 3-3, 2b(2), 3 RBI, Billy Swift 2-2, 2b, 4 RBI

McQuaid Defeats East 16-0 In Season Opener
April 3, 2008 The Knights easily won their season opener 16-0 over East High, as Coach Purtell recorded his first varsity victory. Mike Kazley, Roger Strong, and Graham Sullivan combined to throw a one-hit shutout. McQuaid had a no-hitter going into the bottom of the 7th which was broken up by a one-out bloop single.
Leading Hitters: Christian Segar 2-3, triple, 3 RBI; Roger Strong 2-2, 2bb, 2 RBI; Matt Barry 2-2; Billy Swift 2-4
