Alumni Game fun
The Annual Alumni game was held Friday at Mesa High and we had more than 25 ex-Jackrabbits out to participate. It was a great time as the young guys put it to the "old farts". But in the end, the last goal was the game winner as the oldtimers finished it off. Thanks to everyone who made it out and we'll see you back next year.
Teams to Watch
More press coming the way of the Jackrabbits as they are named one of the 5 teams to watch this season by the East Valley Tribune. Goalkeeper Antonio Lara and his brother, Defender Jaime Lara are also named as players to watch this season. Congratulations on these outstanding pre-season honors.
Scrimmage a success
The Jackrabbits' scrimmage against #1 ranked Millenium was a big success as Mesa went on to a 3-1 victory (although scores aren't actually kept). Scoring goals for Mesa were Jorge Lopez (free kick), Victor Pena (header) and Miguel Rojo (goal mouth scramble). The ball control and passing were a great sight to see as Mesa was able to possess the ball and move it around really well. The classy Millenium soccer program (who was ranked by the Az. Republic in the pre-season as the 4A Division I favorite) made the long trek out to Jackrabbit Stadium and played a tough game. This was just what the Jackrabbits needed to see from themselves as they open the season against pre-season ranked #2 Corona del Sol at 6:00 pm on Tuesday night at Corona.
Pre-Season Rankings
The Arizona Republic has already printed their Pre-Season soccer rankings and the Mesa Jackrabbits are ranked #5 in 5A Division I. This is the highest pre-season ranking the boys team has achieved in the history of the program. Coach T.J. Hagen said "We are extremely honored to be ranked in the top 5 before the season starts, but that's exactly what it is. We haven't played a game yet, and we are set to scrimmage the #1 team in 4A I (Millenium), we start with the #2 team in 5A I and then get the #4 team in 5A I during the Fiesta classic Tournament. We will truly see if we are worthy of such a high ranking."
The top 5 teams in 5A I are #1 Brophy, #2 Corona del Sol, #3 Salpointe, #4 Desert Vista and #5 Mesa.
