Complete the Puzzle...Give 100 Percent
There are athletes who seem to make everyone else on their teams play better because of their approach to their game. They practiced longer, worked harder and perfect the basics of the game. They play the sport the way it is supposed to be played. There are athletes who know when it is time to kick it up a notch and do whatever they can to help their team win.
Come to practice and to every game with a positive attitude. Attitudes are contagious. A bad one is deadly to a team. Come ready to give it all you’ve got. Giving a half effort can cost your team the game.
It is our hope that during this spring season, your skills and love for the game will increase. Everyone is not always able to give 100 percent every day. Sometimes all you can give is 80 percent. If all you have to give is 80 percent, give 100 percent of what you've got.
Sports Sayings:
Willie Mays:
"In order to excel, you must be completely dedicated to your chosen sport. You must also be prepared to work hard and be willing to accept constructive criticism. Without a total 100 percent dedication, you won't be able to do this."
Roger Crawford:
"Play to win, not to avoid losing."
Moses Malone:
"I'll always be Number 1 to myself."
“Are you giving your team100 percent? Be the best that you can be and give 100 percent effort for every practice, every game.”
GOOD LUCK THIS SEASON!
Parents, Grand Parents and Coaches
"All that we are we will pass on to our children-our loves, our hopes, our dreams, our character. Therefore, let your thoughts be planted in rich soil and let your actions stand tall in a child's eyes. Just as fruit does not fall far from the tree, children do not stray far from their heroes."
Good Sportsmanship Is Contagious..Pass It On!
The Milford Girls Softball Association continues to address issues pertaining to sportsmanship as they relate to athletes, coaches, parents, and spectators. A true sport shows a combination of positive values and attitudes.
Sportsmanship is an honorable quality that desires to be courteous, fair, and respectful. It is a blending of cheers for the "home team" and applause for the "visitors", observing the letter and spirit of the rules, and showing consideration for opponents. It is playing by the code of conduct, "treat other participants and spectators as you would want to be treated."
Fundamentals of Sportsmanship:
1. Show respect for the opponent.
2. Show respect for the officials.
3. Know, understand, and appreciate the rules of the contest.
4. Maintain self-control.
5. Recognize and appreciate skill in performance regardless of affiliation.
The Lessons of Good Sportsmanship:
The lessons of good sportsmanship-playing the game hard but fair, winning humbly, losing gracefully, developing respect for discipline and authority, playing and living by the spirit as well as the words of the rules-are not confined to those who play the game. EVERYONE should see the full impact and potential of athletics as an educational experience. This is a challenge that we must pursue.
Coaches, players, parents, relatives, and spectators, ... As the summer season continues...Lets practice Good Sportsmenship and represent Milford well.
“To An Athlete From Her Parents”
There are little eyes upon you
and there’re watching you night and day.
There are little ears that quickly
take in every word you say:
There are little hands all eager
to do anything you do;
And a little girl who’s dreaming
of the day she’d be like you.
You’re a little girl’s idol;
You’re the wisest of the wise.
In her little mind about you,
No suspicions ever rise.
She believes in you devoutly,
holds that all you say and do.
She will say and do, in your way,
when she’s grown-up like you.
There’s a wide-eyed little girl,
who believes you’re always right!
And her ears are always open,
and she watches day and night.
You are setting an example every day in all you do
for the little girl who’s waiting
to grow up and be like you.
* unknown and with a poetic licence.
Keep Our Milford Family Members Safe
Dear Lord,
There's a young man far from home,
called to serve his nation in time of war;
sent to defend our freedom
on some distant foreign shore.
We pray You keep him safe,
we pray You keep him strong,
we pray You send him safely home ...
for he's been away so long.
There's a young woman far from home,
serving her nation with pride.
Her step is strong, her step is sure,
there is courage in every stride.
We pray You keep her safe,
we pray You keep her strong,
we pray You send her safely home ...
for she's been away too long.
Bless those who await their safe return.
Bless those who mourn the lost.
Bless those who serve this country well,
no matter what the cost.
God, Bless America!
