Do I need experience?

No. As with any sport, experience helps, but it’s not required. Many Aliso athletes started playing lacrosse in high school. As long as you commit yourself to practice, you have fun, will improve your skills, and make new friends playing this great team sport!

What should I do now to be ready for the season?

There are a few things you can do now to prepare for tryouts and the spring season.

To start, top lacrosse players have a regular regimen to develop speed, agility, flexibility, endurance, and strength. Flexibility is a key element of athletic success, so it’s important to stretch every day.

Play wall ball! If you haven’t heard the term ‘wall ball,’ you will! It’s as simple as using your stick to throw and catch a lacrosse ball against a wall. Practicing your stick skills about 30 minutes every day is very important. This simple exercise done consistently will definitely make you stand out from the other players at tryouts. To change things up, play catch with a friend, or have a competition shooting on a goal.

Finally, check out some game tapes or instructional videos. When watching game tapes, study your position, and learn what makes that player effective. In the 'Helpful Lacrosse Links' area of this website, you can find some good instructional links. Watching these videos will help you create a picture in your mind of what great lacrosse looks like. Then, each time you play you’ll find that your body will try to mimic that picture.

Committing yourself to do these few things consistently will help to improve your skills, and ensure you contribute more to your Aliso Lacrosse team.
