Rain Policy
Do we practice in the rain or not? The answer is YES, we do practice football in the rain.
If practice is canceled because of stormy weather (lightning in the area) or because fields are holding a significant amount of water, your head coach will contact you to cancel practice.
If your head coach does not contact you, practice is being held.
If weather develops at 6:30pm we will assess the danger and wait until lightning is out of the area before taking the field. If that is the case, please remain in your cars in the parking lot until you see coaches taking the field.
Remember football games are played in the rain, so we practice in those conditions to be ready.
Heat Policy
The Association will install and maintain a thermometer which shows the current air temperature at the field. The Association will also use a device to measure the heat index (i.e. heat and humidity) at all outdoor events which Acworth hosts. At all times in hot weather, coaches will monitor athletes for heat distress.
Parents are strongly urged throughout the day to insure that players are adequately hydrated before coming to practice by drinking water or sports drinks designed to replace electrolytes. Drinks containing caffeine are discouraged.
No AFCA Outdoor Activities will take place if the heat index is 105 or above. When the heat index reaches that level all activities are suspended for a minimum of 30 minutes and cannot resume until the heat index returns to a lower level.
If the heat index is 100-104, outdoor activities are limited to practice in cloth gear only (pants and T-shirts). Water breaks must be provided no less than every 15 minutes and players will be allowed to get water at any time. Frequent breaks should take place to allow the players to cool off. Coaches are encouraged to use cool towels to cool down players at least once per hour. Practices will be reduced to no more than ninety minutes in duration.
If the heat index is 95-99, practice in full gear will be allowed, with frequent water breaks no less than every 15 minutes and players will be allowed to get water at any time. Frequent breaks should take place to allow the players to cool off. Coaches are encouraged to use cool towels to cool down players at least once per hour. Practices will be reduced to no more than ninety minutes in duration.
If the heat index is 90-94, 5-10 minute rest breaks should be taken every hour, water breaks every 15 minutes, and players should be under careful supervision from coaches and trainers. Practices will be the regularly scheduled not to exceed 120 minutes.
If the heat index is 80-89, players will be watched closely by Acworth coaches for any heat distress and frequent water breaks will be taken.

Will my child play with kids his own size, weight and experience level?
The Acworth Warriors offer two divisions of play. There is an opportunity to play football at Acworth for every child regardless of their previous experience, size, or athletic ability.
If your child has ever expressed an interest in playing the game of football, but you think they have waited too late to start, they will now have the chance to play with children of similar experience and skill. Players will no longer have to worry about trying to compete against other children who are bigger or who have many more years of experience. Children who have previously played football and found themselves on the sidelines on game day watching others play will now have an opportunity to play on Saturday. Every player will now be rewarded with an opportunity to play on Saturday regardless of their size, experience, or athletic ability. Experience has demonstrated that children playing against children of similar ability make the game a lot more enjoyable for everyone, especially the children.
Acworth will field teams in the NWGYFL Competitive League (which is designed for more experienced players) as well as teams in the NGYFL Instructional League (D-2) which is designed for players who are new to the game or have less experience. Teams in the Competitive League will only play against other Competitive League teams, and Instructional League teams will only play against other Instructional League teams. Instructional League teams will be available in the 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11-12 age groups.
During the first week of practice, our coaches will evaluate each player and place them on the appropriate team based on their skill level. If you have a child who wants to play football, the Acworth Warriors have a team for them and a division for them regardless of their size, experience, or athletic ability.
Not every park will be able to offer Instructional League play. An important consideration before registering to play at any park should be an understanding of the ability of the park to form teams in the Competitive League and Instructional League.
To determine what team your child would play on please review the following chart:
5 year old team - must be 5 before Dec. 31 and not be 6 before Aug. 1 and be a maximum of 70lbs.
6 year old team - may not be 7 before Aug. 1 and be a maximum of 80lbs.
7 year old team - may not be 8 before Aug. 1 and be a maximum of 90lbs.
8 year old team - may not be 9 before Aug. 1 and be a maximum of 100lbs.
9 year old team - may not be 10 before Aug. 1 and be a maximum of 110lbs.
10 year old team - may not be 11 before Aug. 1 and be a maximum of 120lbs.
11 & 12 year old team - may not be 13 before Aug. 1 and be a maximum of 140lbs.
NOTE 1: Each weight group allows players who weigh within twenty (20) pounds of base weight to participate on a RESTRICTED BASIS. Restricted weight players may only play in specified positions and may not advance the ball.
NOTE 2: Per NWGYFL Rules the 5yr Old Division will only field Instructional League Teams. Instructional League teams will be offered at the 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11-12 year old teams.

If my child is too heavy, can he move up a weight class?
Prior to making weight, a player may move up in weight to play with older more mature players.
When is registration?
Each Association is responsible for setting their own date and prices for registration.
We just had our first scrimmage and I do not like the way the coach is doing his job, may I change teams?
After certification (third Sunday in August) no player may change teams. Prior to that date, talk to the Association President and Athletic Director about changing teams.
May my 6th grader play Middle School football and NWGYFL football?
No player in NWGYFL may play for any other team.
What is the Minimum Participation Rule?
Each football player on a D-1 roster who has not missed any practice during the prior week and is not injured or under discipline by the head coach shall play a minimum of eight (8) plays a game. This includes playoff games and the Super Bowl. Players on a D-2 team shall play a minimum of twelve (12) plays a game. The definition of Discipline is left up to the individual Associations. Individual players are put on the discipline list at the discretion of the Head Coach and Association President.
What time are games?
There is no standard times for games due to the fact that the League must try and accomidate D-1 & D-2 Games from 13 different associations. Check the NWGYFL website at www.nwgyfl.com for game times.
Why do I have to pay an entrance fee to watch my child play?
All the Associations in the NWGYFL are volunteer based but we all have expenses. On game days we all have to pay the officials. Parks use the gate fee to help offset the cost of officials, it is considered a donation. It costs around $250 to pay the officials for each game.
How does the weigh-in work?
Each player, alphabetically, enters the weight room, states their name and number (They must have their game jersey on or in hand) and steps on the scale. The weight commissioner or viewing coach for the other team says OK then the player leaves the room. If a player is overweight then they may, with the parents permission and with the parent present, strip down to their boxers or shorts and see if they can make weight. Your Head Coach knows how to handle the situation
How do I get involved?
Sign your child up, volunteer, stay active, and stay positive. Board of Director elections are at the end of every season.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our President or Athletic Director.
