Patrick Edwards enters into his seventh year with the California Lookouts Foundation during the Fall 2009-Spring 2010 season. Edwards pitched the 1999 and 2000 seasons as the No. 1 starter for CSU, Sacramento in the Big West Conference. In his most memorable performances, Edwards beat the University of Hawaii in Honolulu on February 4th, 1999 when he surrendered one hit in eight innings; he threw a seven-hit, complete-game, 9-1 victory over San Jose State on February 19th, 1999 and he pitched seven innings of three-hit, shutout ball to defeat UC Santa Barbara, 13-0, in March 2000.
While attending CSU, Sacramento, Edwards was honored as CSU, Sacramento’s Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 1998-99 and received the Fred and Pat Anderson Award as the University’s Male Student Athlete with the Highest Grade-Point Average for both the 1998-99 and 1999-2000 academic years. In addition, he was the recipient of the Big Sky Conference Outstanding Scholar Athlete award for both 1998-99 and 1999-2000. He was also named to the National Dean’s List in 1999-2000, is a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma, the Honor Society for AACSB Accredited Business Programs.
Edwards graduated from California State University, Sacramento, Magna Cum Laude, in December 2000. He graduated with an overall college grade-point average of 3.92 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. He carried a 3.94 grade-point average at Palomar College and a 3.88 grade-point average at CSU, Sacramento.
Prior to attending CSU, Sacramento, Edwards, a 16-game winner in two seasons at Palomar College, was 9-2 with a 2.67 earned run average in 1998 as the Comets went 31-8 and won the Pacific Coast Conference Championship. An All-Southern California selection on the field, he was Palomar College’s Male Scholar Athlete of the Year for all sports both the 1996-97 and 1997-98 academic years; was the Pacific Coast Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Year for all sports in 1997-98 and was one of nine male finalists for the 1997-98 Governor Pete Wilson Award. The Wilson Award is given to the Outstanding Community College Scholar Athlete in California. Furthermore, Edwards was selected First-Team Pacific Coast Conference and Runner-Up Pacific Coast Conference Player of the Year in 1998. In May 2005, Edwards was named to the Palomar College All-Time Baseball Team.
In 2001, he returned to Palomar College as pitching coach and was the team manager of the Del Mar Panthers, while also serving as field instructor for the North County Falcons, both American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC) 13-year old traveling baseball teams.
Edwards began working individually with pitchers in 2001 and has mentored Kyle Zeis (Dartmouth College), Travis Goset (University of Kansas/Sacramento State University), Nik Bandak (St. Mary’s College), Matt Smith (Morehouse College), Jarett Attard (Cal Poly Pamona), Gregg Olson (San Diego City College/Eastern Nazarene College), Adam Butler (University of California, San Diego), Scott Schneider (St. Mary's College), Kyle Knapp (University of Oregon), Kegan Sharp (Palomar College/San Diego State University), Zach Holm (Delaware Valley College), Paul Karshner (San Francisco State University), Kyle Collins (Mesa College), Chase Tucker (University of Redlands), Kevin Vance (University of Connecticut), Kyle Shaver (San Diego State University) and Angelo Cianfrocco (Purdue University).
An All-Palomar League selection at Poway High School in 1996, Edwards graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law in May 2005. Prior to co-founding the California Lookouts Foundation, Edwards served legal internships with Palmer, Kazanjian & Holden, L.L.P., Arter & Hadden L.L.P., and Metabolife International, Inc. Edwards lives in Carmel Mountain Ranch.

Garry Templeton
Garry Templetion II enters his first year with the California Lookouts Foundation during the Fall 2009-Spring 2010 season. Selected as a ‘Draft and Follow’ by the New York Yankees in the June 1996 Major League Baseball Draft, Templeton enrolled at Palomar College. An All-Pacific Coast Conference selection, Templeton played the 1997 and 1998 seasons at Palomar College under Head Coach Bob Vetter prior to continuing his playing career at North Carolina A&T. In June 1999, the Anaheim Angels selected Templeton in the Major League Baseball Draft. Templeton played in the Anaheim Angels farm system from 1999-2001 and continued his professional playing career for multiple teams in the Independent Professional Leagues from 2001-2008. Templeton was selected to the Golden Baseball League’s inaugural All-Star Game in 2005. During his professional career, Templeton played every position in the field except for pitcher and catcher.
His father, Garry Templeton, played shortstop in the Major Leagues for 16 years (6 with the St. Louis Cardinals, 9 1/2 with the San Diego Padres and 1/2 season with the New York Mets). An All-Palomar League selection at Poway High School in 1996, Templeton has worked with youth ballplayers during the off-season for the last 10 years and is currently the hitting coach for the Long Beach Armada of the Golden Baseball League. Templeton lives in Poway.

Kyle Zeis
B.A., Economics & Spanish, Dartmouth College (2008)
Kyle Zeis enters his first year coaching with the California Lookouts Foundation during the Summer 2009. He will take on the role of pitching coach for the 16U team.
Zeis was born here in San Diego where he attended Torrey Pines High School. He played on the varsity team for three years, earning all Palomar League honors for each of those three years, and was a 2-time Union-Tribune all-academic team honoree. He also earned all-North County honors his junior and senior year. For his summers in high school, Zeis played for the San Diego Gamers, where he played along side players including Adam Jones and Matt Bush.
After high school, Zeis decided to go out to New Hampshire where he pitched for Dartmouth College’s Big Green. While at Dartmouth he served primarily as the team’s closer. His first collegiate win came against then #22 ranked Cal Poly in a 5 inning scoreless relief appearance. For the summers while Zeis attended Dartmouth College, he played for the North County Waves where he primarily started. In the summer of 2007, Kyle was the starting pitcher in the famous “Midnight Sun” game played in Fairbanks, Alaska every year. This game is played on the longest day of the year (June 21), starts at 10pm, and the stadium lights are never switched on. The Waves won that game, marking the first time a visiting team had won the Midnight Sun game in eight years.
Kyle is currently getting his Single-Subject teaching credential at San Diego State University, majoring in mathematics. Next fall he will be student teaching Geometry and Algebra II at Scripps Ranch High School. He currently resides in Solana Beach.

 Fred Zarcilla, Director
B.A., Political Science, San Diego State University (1978)
Fred Zarcilla enters into his seventh year as the third base coach and bench coach for the 13U Lookouts. He also provides instruction for the outfielders along with concentrating on baserunning and team speed.
Frederick William Zarcilla (pronounced Zar-cell-a) was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. He attended Polytechnic High School and lettered in baseball, basketball and track. In addition, he was the recipient of the Cable Car Clothiers Award, recognizing him as one of the top high school seniors for his academic and athletic achievements and contributions to the community.
Zarcilla attended the University of Wyoming for two years and then San Diego State University. He earned a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Political Science from SDSU. While attending SDSU, he served on the SDSU basketball staff for two seasons that included former standout point guard and Hall of Fame outfielder Tony Gwynn. He currently is employed with First Wind Energy L.L.C., a wind energy company as Facilities Manager, Western Region. He previously worked for two prominent law firms, Latham & Watkins and Brobeck. Furthermore, he successfully mentored a number of student-athletes who went on to have successful professional sports careers including Marshall Faulk (SDSU/St. Louis Rams), Ricky Parker (SDSU/Carolina Panthers), Joseph Tuipala (SDSU/Las Vegas Outlaws-XFL/New Orleans Saints/Jacksonville Jaguars) and Jerome Haywood (SDSU/Canadian Football League).
He organizes the annual event "On the Field" with the San Diego State University baseball team in which Lookouts players take the field with Aztecs players during the National Anthem. This annual event has become Lookouts tradition each Spring.
A resident of Carmel Mountain Ranch, the Zarcilla family consists of his wife Heather and one daughter, Laurel Kealani. A lifelong San Francisco Giants fan, he was given the family nickname of “Willie” after Hall of Fame centerfielder and idol Willie Mays. His annual tradition includes making the trek to Spring Training in Arizona to see the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics. He played high school baseball with former Oakland A’s starting pitcher Mike Norris. Prior to joining the California Lookouts, Zarcilla served as a coach for four seasons in the Carmel Mountain Ranch Little League. Call him Coach Fred, Coach Willie or Coach Z - he’s proud to be part of the Lookouts! |

Brian Stimpson
B.A., Social Science, Cal Lutheran University
Brian Stimpson enters his first full year coaching with the California Lookouts Foundation during the Fall 2009 season. Stimpson spent the last two Summer seasons as head coach of the 18U Lookouts. He will coach the 14U Lookouts during the Fall & Spring seasons, in addition to managing the 18U Lookouts.
Stimpson graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1998. As team captain his senior season at MCHS, Stimpson was Honorable Mention All-Palomar League and played in the Palomar/Avocado League All-Star Game. After high school, he attended California Lutheran University where he was a member of the Division III College World Series 3rd place team his freshman year. While at Cal Lutheran, he was on three consecutive SCIAC Championship teams and was voted team captain his senior season. The Kingsmen finished 30-10 during his senior season.
After concluding his playing career, Stimpson was head freshman coach at Westview High School in 2003 and 2004 and assistant varsity coach at Clairemont High School in 2005. He returned to Westview in 2006. After one season as the head JV coach at Westview, Stimpson became a Varsity assistant coach in 2007.
Additionally, he was the head coach of the Scripps Ranch Falcons from 2003-2006. During his tenure, his teams placed 1st or 2nd in 11 tournaments, including a Championship victory at the TCS Fall Nationals in 2004 and a second place finish at the TCS World Series in 2005. Stimpson has a B.A. in Social Science from Cal Lutheran University, teaching credentials in Social Science and Special Education from Chapman University and a Masters Degree in Special Education. He currently lives in Sabre Springs.
