My child has never played tackle football before, will he be okay?
Youth football is often the first opportunity for children to participate in contact sports. The Wolfpack coaches take this into consideration during the conditioning and initial instruction period and attempt to introduce new players more slowly to the tackling and contact drills. This is one reason why it is of paramount importance for your child to attend every practice.

When does football season start and end?

Our season begins with conditioning practices beginning Monday, July 28th, 2008 and ends Thanksgiving weekend.
Prior to the commencement of practice, players and cheerleaders will be required to have completed and passed a physical examination. The CJAAFC will offer a "Physical Day" (site, date and time T.B.A.) and at the same time distribute the "spirit packs" and also size tackle football players for helmet and shoulder pads.

When and where are the practices and games played?
Pre-Season practice lasts for 6 weeks for all divisions including cheerleaders. Practice dates, times and locations for 2008 are to be determined.  (Please continue to check the website; we will post information as it becomes available.)We will play 4 home games and 4 away games, plus playoff games to be determined by Conference. Home games will be played on Sundays at Claremont High School. Note, no team will be allowed to play more than 10 games, Conference finals excluded. Out of Conference bowl games require Conference pre - approval.

How do I determine which team my child will play on?

The team your child will play on is dependent on his / her age attained during the calendar year of 2008 and also weight at the time of registration. The combination of both weight and age will determine which division your child will be assigned. Please click on the "Handout" link and select the "Divisions / Weight" page for more details.
Furthermore, if your child is to gain or lose weight at the time of player physicals or the commencement of football practice and can no longer be eligible for the team assigned during registration, he / she can be reassigned to a division (pending roster availability) up to one week prior of Certification Day (August 23rd, site and time T.B.A.). If the proposed reassigned team has no roster availability, the child can attain a cut contract from CJAAFC and participate with another JAAFC city.

Are there tryouts or cuts?

Claremont Wolfpack tackle football teams are limited to 33 players on the final team roster one week prior to Certification Day on August 16th, 2008. We will recruit up to 40 players per squad on a first come first served basis before the beginning of the practice season. Should the total number of players exceed 33 one week prior to Certification day, the required number of players will be cut at the discretion of the team's coaching staff and the Wolfpack Executive Board. Football skill is NOT a determining factor for cuts. Note: there are NO cuts for Flag Football (20 players max).

We take our summer vacation during the month of August, will that be a problem?

Attendance at practice is of paramount importance, particularly during the first few weeks of the season prior to Certification Day. Failure to attend practice is often a significant factor in a coach's decision to cut any player in order to reduce the roster to the required 33 players prior to Certification day.
