About Us

The Wizards Wrestling Club is a Crystal Lake Park District affiliated program registered through the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation.  We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for kids ages 5 to 14 that want to learn the sport of wrestling.  We will offer a learning atmosphere that is appropriate for all skill levels and experience ranging from the fundamentals and basic rules of the sport to advanced technique for those wrestlers ready to compete at the highest levels.

BELIEFS

- Safety is our most important priority

- Members of the team are students first and athletes second

- Club wrestling will better prepare a wrestler for the competition of high school wrestling compared to other youth wrestling options

- Sportsmanship is EXPECTED out of all Wizard wrestlers and coaches

- A wrestler that does not follow team rules may be disciplined, especially if they are a risk to themselves or their teammates

 ABOUT THE TOURNAMENTS

Most regular season tournaments are held on Sundays.  A preliminary schedule will be handed out as soon as possible.  Please make note that this schedule may change as additional tournaments are added.

Registration forms will not be passed at practice, but available on our website once registration for those tournaments has been closed. You will  need to download the form and bring completed form to practice. Also checks need to be made payable to the Wizards, not the host team.

Most of the tournaments are double elimination (your child will wrestle at least 2 matches).  There are 4 different age classes— 8 & under (Bantam), 9 &10 (Junior), 11 & 12 (Novice) and 13 & 14 (Senior).  Wrestlers 8, 10 and 12 years old can choose the division they wrestle based on skill and experience.

Most open tournaments we enter use blocked weight classes.  The wrestlers weigh in before the tournament and are grouped by weight and experience.  There are no set weight classes.  Most of the Varsity Invitational Tournaments and the State Series Tournament do use set weight classes.  The weight class you wrestle at Regionals must be maintained for Sectional and State tournaments.

Wrestlers placing first through fifth are typically rewarded with trophies, metals or ribbons at each tournament.

TOURNAMENT TIPS

We encourage you to bring a cooler with snacks and drinks.  Concessions are available throughout the day at all tournaments but you don't always know what is available.

Let's promote Team Spirit by all sitting together under our team banner at the tournaments.  Also, try to wear black and gold to show your team support.

We will be providing multiple opportunities for you to purchase Wizard Wear, which includes a variety of items to wear to the tournaments to show your support for the team.

This year, you have the option of Pre-paying for the tournaments in $50 dollar increments.  Please contact Lisa Szlenk for details.
