Head Coach - Bob Anderson

Coach Anderson is beginning his 29th year as a baseball coach. Anderson gained most of his baseball knowledge and background from Community College Hall of Famer Jim O'Brien (L.A. Harbor College) and University of Arizona Head Coach Andy Lopez. O'Brien has won 3 California State Community College Baseball Championships during his legendary career at L.A. Harbor College. Anderson credits Coach O'Brien with helping not only with his baseball career, but more importantly as the driving force to have him finish his Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree. Andy Lopez is the other influential figure in coach Anderson's career. One of the key areas coach Lopez taught Anderson was understanding the mental aspects of the game. In addition, Lopez guided him in becoming a "teacher" and "technician" while managing his players and team. Anderson considers Andy Lopez as the most influential person in his baseball career. Coach Lopez is the only NCAA head coach to lead three different universities to the College World Series (Pepperdine, Florida, Arizona) and led Pepperdine University to their only College World Series Title.

Anderson began his coaching career at his high school alma mater, Mira Costa H.S. in Manhattan Beach in 1982. After leaving Mira Costa, Coach Anderson then moved to Bishop Montgomery in 1983 where he coached until 1990. While at "The Mont," he led the Knights to two league titles and a first ever school appearance in the Division I playoffs. He helped put Bishop Montgomery on the map playing against the likes of Mater Dei, Bishop Amat, Servite, and St. Paul to name a few.

Anderson then was recruited to the college ranks to be the Assistant Head Coach at California Junior College Powerhouse, Los Angeles Harbor College by Tony Bloomfield. Bloomfield, now at Consumnes River Junior College, is one of the top college coaches not only in the state, but in the nation. Anderson helped the Seahawks to six consecutive conference championships as well as six consecutive California State Regional Championship Tournaments. During his tenure at L.A. Harbor, Coach Anderson was the recruiting coordinator, catching and hitting instructor, as well as coaching third base. Anderson also ran the "HAWKS" summer camps and was the Head Coach of the summer program that competed in the Stan Musial League which was a qualifier for the NBC Tournament every year. In addition, one of Anderson's greatest accomplishments was being selected to Coach Team USA, which had top high school seniors and junior college players. Team USA competed in Europe and compiled a 15 - 1 record under Anderson and won the European Championships in Holland.

After leaving Los Angeles Harbor, Anderson spent a brief stint scouting for the Cleveland Indians. Hired by current Oakland A's scout and Minor League Manager Rick Maganate, (Vancouver Canadians) Anderson learned instantly. However, Anderson quickly missed the "on the field" relationships and went back to coaching at the high school level in southern California. His finest team in So Cal was at Torrance High School where his team won a record 23 games, had six all leaguers, six all area players, and had two players drafted into the major leagues.

In 2001, Coach Anderson and his family moved to the Redding area near his family, where he accepted the Head Baseball job at Central Valley High School. Taking over a program that had only two league titles in 45 plus years and coming off a 2 - 25 finish in 2000, Coach Anderson turned the program around instantaneously winning three league titles in his first four years as well as leading the Falcons to three consecutive CIF Championship Final appearances.

Overall, in his nine seasons at Central Valley, Anderson has led the Falcons to a record of 177 - 77 - 4. This averages just under 20 wins a season as well as over a .694 winning percentage. During his nine years, Anderson has led the Falcons to five NAL titles, four CIF Finals, 8 playoff appearances, and won 12 tournament championships. The Falcons greatest season came last season winning the Northern Athletic League (10-0) and the schools first ever CIF-NS Championship. Central Valley finished the season with a state high 32-2 mark (5th nationally).

As a result of his successes, Anderson has received many awards and honors during his career. He was the first ever to be named Head Coach in the Northern California Lions All Star baseball game. In addition, Anderson is the only man to be selected more than once. He has been selected three times in seven years by his peers in 2003, 2004, & 2008. This is quite an honor coming from his fellow coaches. Furthermore, Anderson is the only California High School Head Coach to be named both South Bay Southern California Coach of the Year (1999) and twice was Northern California Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2009. He was also rewarded in 2009 as ESPN Cal-Hi California State Coach of the Year after the Falcons led the state with a 32-2 mark.

In conjunction with his high school duties, Anderson is the Program Director and Head Coach for the Redding American Legion Baseball Program. The U19 legion club has won four consecutive District II-III Championships and two Nor-Cal Titles under Anderson. The Legion program has competed in Sacramento, Napa, Reno, Eugene, Medford, Klamath Falls, Grants Pass, and Eureka to name a few. Thanks to Coach Anderson, the Rattlers will be traveling to Kennewick, Washington again this season to complete in one of the top tournaments on the west coast. Over the past three seasons, Redding has won 10 tournaments and missed going to the California State Finals twice by only one game. During his tenure, Coach Anderson has led Redding to a 118 - 31- 1 record.

One of Coach Anderson's main goals is to continue to place players into college institutions. Anderson has an impressive record of players being placed over his long and distinguished career. Over time, the Central Valley Baseball Website will be posting past players of coach Anderson and past Falcon alumni to showcase the college/university that they attended.

Finally, Coach Anderson continues to give back to the community by putting on local clinics, youth camps, working with the Challengers Little League, and has just recently become involved with the Shasta County Special Olympics Program.

Coach Anderson resides in Redding with his wife Melanie, and his two daughters Ally (19) and Ashley (16).
