ARCHDIOCESE OF LOS ANGELES COACHES CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

EFFECTIVE AS OF AUGUST 2007

Prior to coaching a practice or game at a parish elementary school in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, ALL coaches must have a CYO Certification Card regardless of whether your school team competes in CYO. YOU MAY NOT COACH WITHOUT COMPLETING THE ITEMS BELOW.

The following is required to obtain a CYO Certification Card:

1. Completed Archdiocese of Los Angeles Coaches Code of Conduct form (available below) signed by the coach.
2. Completed Principal Verification form (available below) signed by the School Principal which indicates that the coach has obtained fingerprints.
3. $25.00 processing fee made payable to CYO.
4. Attendance at a Play Like A Champion Today coaches training workshop.

Completion of items 1 through 3 will allow the coach to receive a temporary Certification Card. Coaches with temporary Certification Cards are allowed to coach at a practice and/or game. However, the temporary Certification Card is valid for ONLY four weeks. In order to receive a final Coaches Certification Card, attendance at a Play Like A Champion Today coaches training workshop is required. IF YOU FAIL TO ATTEND THE COACHES WORKSHOP WITHIN THE 4 WEEK PERIOD, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CONTINUE COACHING. You may resume coaching upon attendance of the coaches training workshop. However, if a coach attends a workshop after the 4 week period, he/she will need to re-submit another $25 processing fee.

A final Certification Card will be issued upon completion of the Play Like a Champion Today class which will be valid for two years from the date of the class.

Note: Completion of the Virtus program is required for all coaches by all schools but is not administered in any way by CYO. If you have any questions concerning the Virtus program, please contact your school.

RENEWAL INFORMATION

If you have taken the PLC class and your card has expired, you must complete the online renewal course through Notre Dame University's STEP Theology Online program. Instructions on how to register for and complete the online renewal are below. Please note that although no fee is required to take the renewal course, you still must pay a $25 renewal fee to CYO in order to receive your card.

To register for the Play Like a Champion recertification course:

Go to STEP’s homepage http://step.nd.edu and click the “Sign Up for STEP” link. On the page you come to under the “New Student?” section click the link “click here to register” in order to create your user profile for the registration system and to register for the course. On the page you come to, enter your user profile information as indicated, including choosing your username and password for the online registration system (“store”). When you are done entering your information, you will be logged into the “store” and can register for the recertification course by clicking the link for “Play Like a Champion only” to your left.

When you click on the course link, you will see the course and price displayed. Click the course link again, and on the page you come to choose the Section (dates) you are interested in registering for and click Continue, then click Checkout. Confirm your “delivery address” and click “Continue to Payment.” On the page you come to, enter your promotion code [LACYO] in the Promotional Code field and click Apply.

Following the receipt of your registration, you should be sent a confirmation e-mail. If you do not receive this e-mail, please contact STEP at stepnd@nd.edu.

Following your registration, there is still a manual step that needs to be taken at Notre Dame to enroll you in the course software (Concourse). That will be accomplished within one business day following receipt of a registration. Once you are enrolled in the course, you can enter the course by going to STEP’s homepage http://step.nd.edu and clicking the “Log into Your Course” link (door icon) on the right. Enter your username (e-mail address) and password (step123) in the spaces provided in the upper right (NOT the user name and password you created for STEP) and click Go. You can change your password after logging in to Concourse by clicking the My Settings link in the upper right. Once you are logged in to Concourse you can enter your course by clicking its title in the Course List area.

Please remember you will not receive a new card unless you have paid the $25 renewal fee to CYO.
