Open to 9, 10, 11, & 12 year olds members of Dedham Youth Baseball who have participated in the preceding Spring Season of DYB. This is competitive baseball at a very high level. As such there is a very strong commitment required: player attendance is expected at all games or practices for the duration of the season with the exception of due illness or injury. Please keep in mind that this policy is designed to allow for those unavoidable circumstances, but since this is a tryout/selection team the overall commitment objective should still be 100% attendance at all games & practices. Any parent/player expecting to miss more than the maximum of two (2) games should not consider trying out.

Teams typically begin practice in late May and games continue through July. Playoffs for the Suburban League can run through the first or second week of August. Games are played weeknights only, however, practices are typically held on the weekend. Coaches will often schedule practices for first thing Saturday AM, or late Sunday evening in order for families to have as much of the weekend to themselves as possible. This is, however, left to a coach’s discretion.

Additionally, most of these teams will enter one weekend tournament. In the past, we have participated in tournaments on the Cape, Raynham, Attleboro, New Bedford to name a few.

Traditionally one team of twelve players are fielded per age group. However if the number and caliber of players warrant, along with an available coach we would absolutely add a 2nd Suburban “B” Team per age group.

All candidates for the Summer Team will be considered for selection based on skills demonstrated during the current DYB season as well as attitude and coachability. In addition, players at the 9-12 year old levels are also asked to attend an on-field skills evaluation for summer candidates. On-field evaluations are conducted by each team's Summer League head coach who is determined by the DYB Committee. Team will be selected by Summer League Head coach based on the aforementioned criteria and final rosters will be approved by league officials.
