CITY OF EDINBURGH TRAMPOLINE CLUB ....The Story So Far………
The City of Edinburgh Trampoline Club (CETC) was founded in October 2006 by Head Coach, Lauren Jeffrey. Lauren began coaching trampolining classes at the Crags Sports Centre on the Southside in 2005, having previously had 14 years experience as a successful, competitive trampolinist. The Crags, initially built with Lottery funding, was subsequently taken over by Edinburgh Leisure in 2006.
Lauren quickly became aware of the lack of opportunity for talented, enthusiastic youngsters to take part in the sport at competition level, as there were no existing trampoline clubs in the City. In collaboration with the then Gymnastics & Trampolining Development Officer for Edinburgh Leisure, Perrotine Orr, a co-ordinated plan was introduced, to provide a clear pathway from recreational & development classes to City of Edinburgh Club classes, thus enabling youngsters to take part in competitions organised by the sports’ governing body, Scottish Gymnastics. The Club became ‘Independent’ on 1st January 2008.
The Club currently has a membership of over 100 youngsters, ranging in age from 4 through to adult. It has an extremely pro-active Committee, who are very supportive of the Club and coaches. CETC has four fully qualified coaches including Lauren; Kayleigh Jeffrey, Lori McQueen, and Claire Lovell, three of whom are previous or current holders of Scottish National titles. CETC also have 6 Assistant Coaches, who are all teenage Club competitors. The CETC has a policy of encouraging youngsters to remain in the sport by obtaining coaching and judging qualifications, and passing on & sharing their experience and knowledge with other, younger members.
CETC also encourages parents & helpers to gain judging qualifications and volunteer as marshals/helpers for the Club at Scottish Gymnastics competitions. The Club also has very active fundraising & social committees, ensuring that it offers something for everyone.
Club competitors have already gained an impressive haul of over 100 medals since the first competition, including 12 Scottish National titles. In 2007-2008 Competition season, two Club members were selected by Scottish Gymnastics for the East of Scotland Trampoline Squad, and three members have recently been selected for the 2008-2009 season.
Having recently introduced double-mini trampolining(DMT)to the Club,CETC are delighted that 3 competitors secured places at the British Trampoline Championships 2009, held at the N.I.A. in Birmingham in July, and surpassed all expectations with their excellent performances.
CETC is now based at Lasswade High School Centre, Midlothian, with occasional additional training at Crags Sports Centre, and Meadowbank Sports Centre, Edinburgh.
