ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Coaching Opportunities

If you want to coach for the Fair Oaks Soccer Club, you may check the box on the registration form and the registrar will contact you with more information.  You do not need any special qualifications or experience to coach.  The Fair Oaks Soccer club holds a coaching clinic before the season begins, typically at the end of July.  The coaching clinic will teach you how to coach a youth soccer team with some practice drills, and techniques that you may use for your own practices.  Click on our coaching page for more information.

Team Assignment

Recreation teams are formed by the club in late July.  Practices can begin after August 1.  The assigned coach will contact you by the first week of August for practice and team information.

Requests to Play with Coach/Team/Friends

The Fair Oaks Soccer Club makes every effort possible to give special consideration for your request to play for a specific coach, team and/or friends (if in your age bracket), but we cannot guarantee your request.  You may also indicate if you do not want to play on a particular team.  All requests are kept confidential.  Please indicate any requests at the time of registration.  Any requests received after the teams are formed will not be considered.

Practices

Practices for the recreation program begin in August.  Typically, practices are two nights a week on either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday and either Early (5:00 - 6:00 p.m.) or Late (6:00 - 7:00 p.m.).  Where your child practices will depend on the age group and the size of the field.  Historically, our practice locations include sites such as LeGette Elementary, Fair Oaks Elementary, Orangevale Open School, Carnegie School, Phoenix Park, Fair Oaks Park and Bannister Park.

The coach of each team submits preferences for practice days, practice times (early or late), and practice locations.  Our Field Coordinator then attempts to balance the requests to honor them as best as possible. We have more than 80 teams, so all coaches rarely get all of their preferences honored.  Unfortunately, you as parents do not have the ability to select teams based upon any of these factors.  With more than 1,100 players playing in our club, we are unable to entertain requests from individuals based on practice schedules or locations.

Games

The playing season begins in September and each team will play 10 games scheduled on Saturdays, running until just before Thanksgiving.  There is a BYE weekend the last Saturday in September and no games will be played.  Games are normally played in the mornings or early afternoons.  Teams play against other teams in our league from the Sunrise, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Orangevale and Sierra soccer clubs.  You will be traveling to their field for half of your games, but we schedule the other half of your games in Fair Oaks.  Beginning at U16, recreation teams may have to travel further for games, but most are still in the greater Sacramento area.

Teams are placed into divisions in order to attempt to place teams with other teams that are similar in skill and ability.  In the middle of the season, we assess the scores and records thus far to see which teams may need to move up or down a division to give them the level of competition that is right for that team.  We want all players to experience the joy of victory in some games, but we also try to balance the abilities the teams so that your child is in an environment in which he/she can compete.  This is not an exact science as we must perform this balancing act across multiple soccer clubs within our League.

Each child is to play at least 50% of each game, and we highly encourage the coaches to play each child at different positions to let them experience all aspects of the game.  Click here to review our fair play policy.

Play Up Requests

The Fair Oaks Soccer club strongly discourages “playing up” an age group, but the Board will review all requests for playing-up on a case-by-case basis.  A player cannot play-up more than one age group bracket (i.e. Under 12 to Under-14).  Please submit your play-up request in writing at the time of registration stating the reason(s) why you believe your child should play-up.  The written play-up request must be signed by the player's parent/guardian.  Once the request is reviewd by the Board, you will be notified by the club registrar if the request was granted or denied.  Playing down to a lower age group is prohibited by CYSA-N rules except in instances of a documented medical condition.

Uniforms & Equipment Needed

You can purchase uniforms at any of our walk-in sessions.  We will have all sizes there so that you can bring your child to try on the uniform for proper fit.  Once we finish the walk-in sessions, we take the uniforms to Soccer Pro at Madison & Fair Oaks Blvd. and you can purchase them there for a slightly higher cost.  Our recreation players wear the yellow and white reversible jersey, black shorts, and black socks as part of their game uniform.

Each player must also purchase shin guards and cleats at any sporting goods store and we highly recommend that each player purchase his/her own soccer ball to bring to practice and for practicing at home.

Ball sizes for each age group are:  Under-6 & Under 8 = size 3; Under-10 & Under 12 = size 4; Under-14 & above = size 5

Summer Soccer Camps
Please be sure to see the information regarding the Summer Camps.  The Sac State Hornet Camp is for U-6 through U-10 boys and girls recreation players only. The Challenger Camp is for U12 and older rec players and all Select players.  (See birthdates above) The camps starts the last Monday in July, go to our Soccer Camp page to learn more.

Club Transfer Policy

Once a player has been placed on a team roster, any request to change to another team is considered a transfer.  A transfer form must be submitted and the player’s pass must be returned to the club registrar along with the applicable transfer fee paid by the player to FOSC to cover the cost of the District VI Transfer Fee, the ARYSL transfer fee, and the FOSC processing fee.

Club Refund Policy
Once a player application has been accepted and they have been assigned to a team by the Registrar, withdrawal requests made to the Registrar in writing by mail or electronic mail or over the club Registrar's voice mail line with full details of the player's name, date of birth, address and phone number will be processed the following way:

All proper refund requests prior to August 1 of the current year will be honored with a full refund of paid registration fee, minus a $20 administration charge per player. As of August 1 proper refund requests will be refunded at 50% of paid amount for each player, which will include the administration charge. No refunds will be given after August 31, except for late registrants that can not be placed on an open team of our selection. If we cannot place a late enrolling player on a team the registration check will be returned.

There are no refunds for any uniform purchases.  All uniform sales are final.
