U8 Academy
The U8 Academy program is designed to appropriately train players at an early age. With a focus being on technical skill development. Players will train (2) times per week seasonally (fall/spring) with a third day of training and in house games on Saturday (10:45-12:00). In addition, winter sessions will offer at least one day/week of training and may participate in selected tournaments throughout the year. Studies have shown that players at this age benefit more from training that focuses on skill work and small sided games, as opposed to league play in a competitive environment.
It was announced today, 6/27, by the English Football Association that they will be banning U8 leagues starting this coming season. English FA bans Under8 Leagues
In keeping with this current trend in soccer, come Fall 08 AGW is starting its own Grass roots program, The U8 ACADEMY. Studies have shown that focus at the younger ages should be on skill development rather than game results.
Youth Academy
Asphalt Green Wave is proud to announce a NEW infrastructure for player development. The Youth Academy is a fun learning environment geared towards skill development, small sided games, and a healthy lifestyle. Programs run on a four term cycle 1x/wk for an hour. Formerly referred to as soccer training classes, the Youth Academy is offered to all ages and abilities. The more advanced players will be identified through a player identification process, and invited to additional advanced training sessions.
Our Youth Academy program is a vital factor in our club's continuing success. As coaches and educators, we are well aware of the importance of providing a solid foundation for young players. The future development and success of a young player depend on receiving correct and relevant information at an early age. We have designed a curriculum that emphasizes age-appropriate technical skills training. In the coming season, we have strengthened our coaching staff to make certain our club leads the industry in this essential area of player development.
