HMS vs Springton Lake
January 8, 2003 --
When the HMS wrestlers stepped off the bus and entered the gymnasium at Springton Lake Middle School, you could see the determination on their faces. The boys entered our third and toughest challenge yet with great confidence and pride. Each wrestler stepped on the scale and you could see the look of victory glimmering in their eyes. Coach Brocklesby and myself stood alongside the mat and watched the boys warm up, and both felt very proud to see all of their hard work and dedication. We both thought for sure that we would walk out victorious.
However we were facing a well disciplined team, which had many very good technical wrestlers. Our boys wrestled their hardest and left nothing on the mat but unfortunately we were not able to overpower the strong Springton Lake team and suffered our second loss by the Final score of HMS 35 Springton Lake 64.

HMS vs Northley
December 19, 2002 --
For the second time in less than a week HMS Wrestling had it's toughest battle at the scale, and with the addition of a new digital scale things were not going to get any easier. Mighty Matt Witmer refused to give in against the opponent which ,last match prevented him from wrestling. Mat BEEFED up immediately prior to stepping on the scale and won his battle by a whole .6 lb. Brandon Freedman and George Walton were not as sucessfull as Mat Witmer, and both failed to make weight( dropping them both into exhibition matches).
Haverford Middle School wrestling burst out onto the mat to take on a very tough Northley team. With the sound of the teams theme song Let The Bodies Hit The Floor shaking the walss of the entire school building, the boys prepared for battle. The first whistle sounded and indeed the bodies started hitting the floor. The battle was hard fought and each wrestler gave his all. In the end Haverford came out with 9 wins (all by fall) and Northley walked away with 9 wins (8 falls & 1 Tech. Fall) The new scoring sytem helped our team squeak out a victory by a 1 point margin. Final score was HMS 54 Northley 53.

HMS at Strath Haven
December 17, 2002 --
Riding high on last weekends showing at Great Valley, the team made a journey to Strath Haven(better known as a football powerhouse than for it's wrestling) with great expectations. The boys showed much enthusiasm on the bus ride and as we stepped off, we all beleived the team would come home with a VICTORY.
Our first challenge was at the scale, and as many people would agree, the scale may soemtimes be your TOUGHEST opponent. Our early feelings of victory soon started to fade away when BIG Matt Witmer stepped on the scale and failed to make weight (minimum wrestling weight for 75 lbs). Our team suffered a second set back at the scales when Brandon Freedman was unable to make weight. When all was said and done we had to forfeit the 75 & 165 lb matches.
Each and every one of our wrestlers walked confidently out onto the mat and faced their opponent without hesitation. They all wrestled hard and to the best of their ability, unfortunately are efforts were not enough and Strath Haven came out on top of Haverford by the score of 57 to 39.

What an awsome day the Haverford Middle School Wrestling Team had at Great Valley . The boys all wrestled their hearts out and did not leave anything on the mat.
We had a very respectable 22 wins (18 by fall) out of 57 matches.
Although many of the boys had to wreslte 4 or 5 times throughout the day, their energy level never faultered. The entire team made Coach Brock and myself proud. The results of all the boys hard work at practice was quite evident. Everyone did a great job.
Thanks boys for making this tournament such a great expierence.
