About Us
Hikina was started in the 2006 season to give the girls of Star of the Sea School an opportunity to play club volleyball. All adult participation was voluntary. The club administrator, coach and assistant coach were fathers of players. Costs were kept to the bare minimum.
Our first team was in the 12 & under division. Being much less experienced and younger than the "competitive" teams, our team lost more than it won, but we did win. And more importantly, our players learned, improved their skills and gained valuable experience.
Our goal in the 2007 season was the same: to provide an opportunity for girls to improve their skills and gain experience. However, we decided to open up our rosters to include players from any school. And, we added a 14s team to go along with our 12s.
Some of our players have gone on to play for competitive teams the following year, and a number of our players are now playing for their school intermediate and JV teams.
In 2008, we will continue to give girls, who might not have the opportunity to play on the more competitive teams, a chance to improve and gain valuable playing time.
Hikina is a developmental team for girls that like to compete.
We are looking forward to another exciting season.
Aloha,
Gregg Kageyama
