Dance Classes
This is Briana. I'm a Cadette Girl Scout and am currently working on my silver award. This project is the highest award I can earn as a cadette. It is a service based project. I have chosen to do a dance group for any girl in girl scouts in Manchester that is interested in dance. These classes will have no charge. There is no prior dance requirement. I would like to have a parents' meeting to discuss the details of this group on Sunday, February 8th at 4:00 pm.
Here are some things I have already decided. We will meet once a week for the remainder of this year. Our main performing spot will be at nursing homes. The girls will learn 1 or 2 dances depending on their age and how quickly they catch on. The costumes will be of minimal cost and will pertain to the song and dance. To get low prices we will most likely do a fundraiser to help pay for them. I may decide to make some of the costumes. Also I don't know how popular this will get and I can't take a large number of girls. In the case I get too many girls I will go on a first come first serve basis. I have not chosen any songs or any details so I will give more information at the parents meeting. Also, this group will be performing to Christian songs. I hope to see you there.
Please make copies for your girls. Thank you. Troop leaders do not have to attend practices or performances.
Your sister in Girl Scouts,
Briana

Brownie Quest
As you all have had a chance to speak with a girl from my cadette troop, you are aware that we are planning a series of meetings for our district's brownies from the new Journeys program called Brownie Quest.
This program will require 6 to 7 sessions to complete the entire quest. We are trying to provide a quality program for our brownies, while giving all of you a well deserved break. We plan to have one or two sessions every month. The goal of this journey will be to let each girl find out what it means to be a leader. She will learn to understand her own skills and values as she teams up with others. She will learn to identify community needs, will act to better her community and inspire others along the way.
During this Quest, the girls will earn three keys and then solve the mystery of what they open.
Our troop hopes to complete this entire session but for sure have committed to getting you a great start with the first three sessions.
In session 1 she will discover the talents & qualities that make her unique. They will also focus on the values of the Girl Scout law.
Session 2, they will earn their first key and will practice working together as a team. They will work on a family connect project that shows she cares about her family.
Session 3, she will learn how the circles of her life grow out from "me" to "family" to "Girl Scout" to her "community" to the whole world. They will write simple letters to someone in their community about something she cares about. By the end of this session, she will have earned her second key.
Session 4, they will brainstorm about all the places and people in their community who might need their help. They will make a team decision on how to make a difference.
Session 5, They will do their community action project.
Session 6, Complete their project & earn their third key. Celebrate their success!
There is a book that accompanies this program. My girls and I think we can do this program without requiring your girls to purchase the book. If you feel strongly that you would like your girls to have this book please let me know. I would prefer that either all the girls have it or not, to prevent girls from feeling left out. However, it isn't that big of an issue one way or the other to me. The cost of the book is $7 + tax ~ $7.50.
Each girl will need to have the patch (pictured above) set. These are $5 + tax or approximately $5.50. I can purchase these for your girls or you can, let me know. If you want me to purchase this, please bring money to the first session, Feb 8th.
I would like to send a letter to each girl's parents about this program. Please send me a list of your girls and their parents names and addresses. I will be happy to send two notes out for separated parents, in those cases.
For the first session, we will ask for $1 per girl to help defray the cost of copying and a small craft. Also, if you could provide a HEALTHY snack to share. Please include a few extra than your girl count to cover the extra volunteers.
Some snack suggestions would be:
Carrots and veggie dip
apple slices
banana chunks
trail mix
baked chips
crackers
low fat cheese
yogurt
Our first session will be held, Sunday February 8th from 5pm to 7pm.
By Sunday Jan 25th, I need the list of girls & their parents names with addresses to send letter. Please make sure you include your daughter so you know what & when your girls receive their letter. Complete the attached permission slip so I can send these out for you, as well.
By Sunday, Feb 1st (Superbowl Sunday)
You will need to have $1 per girl registered, to me.
A list of the girls planning to attend
On Sunday, Feb 8th
You will need to bring:
Your girls :)
A snack to share
Health History Form (you keep)
Permission Slip (you keep) -- unless this is your normal meeting place & time. *
Adults to meet safety wise ***
Money if you want me to purchase the patches (and/or books) $5.50 per child ($13 if you want both)
* I have a attached a Word copy of the permission slip. If you fill in the extra info and send back with your list of addresses, I will send out with parent letters to make this easier on you.
*** If you cannot attend these events with your girls please let me know. We should be able to make it work. I don't want to turn girls away even if the leader cannot make it.
Please keep in mind these sessions build off of each other. I will help you get the info you need to work with any girls who may have to miss a session so she can be caught up by the next session.
Let me know if you should have any questions. We hope your girls enjoy these sessions!
The second session will probably be either March 1st or March 8th.
