May 19, 2007 --
George "Tiny" Forester was born on Brown Street in Birmingham in 1920. He graduated from old Birmingham High School in 1938 where he earned letters in four sports; basketball, baseball, football and track. Later he became a registered umpire and referee for fifty years. George and his wife Frances, raised six children all of whom graduated from Seaholm High School.
George, a longtime Birmingham Seaholm athletic activist, died in October of 2001. He is fondly remembered as an important member of the Birmingham Seaholm High School "family". He was especially active in girls athletics like softball and volleyball. Mike Hessling, Seaholm's veteran softball coach, states,"George ment a lot to the Seaholm softball palyers". "The kids loved him so much that they wanted to name the field after the man they looked up to". A few years before his death the players name the renovated field the "George Forester Softball Field".
George made an impact on four generations. He touched the lives of his peers, his friends, his children and their friends. The high school kids were like grandkids to him says George's son Randy.
