About Red Raiders Baseball - FAQ

    Are you an AAU team?
No! We are much more than that. We are a baseball training club. We do play in AAU events, but we also play in USSSA, NABF, AABC, CABA, Triple Crown, Terry Pendleton Baseball, Perfect Game and other organizational events as well.

    How often do you practice?
We average at the most 2-3 field practices a month; however we work out 2-3 times a week. Workouts are required; we feel that the conditioning from strength and agility training are more important than field time. Our workouts have a focus on core strength to enhance long term hitting and pitching, which maximizes the ability to stay injury free.

    How often do you play?
Each age group plays 100-150 games a year, Includes tournaments and various leagues.

Are we required to play in every event?
No. You may pick and choose.

Will my son get burnt out?
Every player needs some time off, we request that they take two or three weeks a couple of times a year. Players do not get burnt out if they are able to hit the baseball. The ones that are not able to hit usually quit at an early age.

Can my son play Little League (or equivalent) and be a Red Raider?
Absolutely! It requires more time and effort and we request the work outs remain a primary focus. When they get on the big field, almost all of our players only play in our programs.

    How competitive will we be?
Most players that last the first 90 days in our program stay with us. Eventually our teams are able to compete amongst the elite teams in the USA.

    Do we have to win?
No. We enjoy winning and want to win, however we learn more from losing and therefore we take it for what it is, a learning experience.

What are your long term goals?
We want our players to stay and develop with us through High School. We have the knowledge and experience to help them with the showcase and the recruiting process.

Is my son good enough to play now and will he be good enough to play beyond High School?
The second part of that question can not be answered until he is sixteen to eighteen years of age. Any young player is good enough to be a part of our program as long as he is willing and able to handle our required work out program. We want players who love baseball and want to play High School or beyond.

Will my son be playing with players at his own ability level?
Eventually, yes. Even if it means he has to play with older players.

Who will coach my son’s games?
A lot of different people. College players, High School players, Professionals, Dads (our goal is to teach the dads to be better coaches, we can all improve). By the time they are on the big field the coaches will primarily be what you would consider to be a professional coach.

How much money will I spend?
A lot or a little. Most players probably average approximately $200 a month. We do offer fund – raiser and sponsor programs for those who would choose to use them.

Will my son have a chance of getting a baseball scholarship?
His grades are the most important thing outside of training for his ability to play baseball beyond High School. Jr. Colleges, Div. I, Div.II, and Div.III schools all offer scholarship programs for Baseball and the amounts are growing each year. If he loves the game enough, and is willing to work hard, and keep his grades up, we are confident that we can help him play at some college level. In the High School class of 2005 we helped 27 players receive placements at some sort of college, including 14 who received scholarships to Division I Schools.

    Who is Rick Bennett?
A person that has a passion to teach and coach. One who learns more about baseball and teaching every day. A loud and obnoxious (sometimes) coach that loves his players.
