VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!!
Role of the Parent
The parents of millions of Little Leaguers, combined with their children, league officials, umpires, managers, coaches, and countless volunteer agencies including sponsors, represent an imposing cross section of our world. Parents must take the initiative to make the local program successful. Little League is not a club in which membership implies baby-sitting benefits and entertainment privileges.
Practically speaking, Little League is an adult, volunteer work project constructed, supervised and assisted by parents who want to extend this benefit to their children. The parent who shirks this responsibility cannot, in turn, expect others to assume the burden.
Leadership Positions
MANAGER
A manager is the primary point of contact for each team and responsible for the team's actions at games and practices. He/she must possess leadership ability and the know-how to work with young children. It is not enough that candidates for these important roles have previous experience in the game. Managers are interviewed and recommended by the Managers Committee, appointed by the League President, and approved by the RRLL Board of Directors.
COACH
Each team is only allowed two two coaches in the dug out durning the games, HOWEVER teams can have as many coaches during practice. The coaches' responsibilities are to assist the managers at games and practices. If the manager is not available, one of the coaches must assume the roles and responsibilities of the manager. Coaches are appointed by the manager and must be approved by the RRLL Board of Directors.
TEAM MOM
Each team must have one at least one Team Mom (or Dad). The Team Mom is responsible for all "off-field" team activities. These include distributing uniforms and pictures, collecting opening day ticket monies, scheduling snacks, organizing the team party, etc.
TEAM SAFETY OFFICER
The team safety officer is someone who will be at the practice and games. You must have access to a cell phone and carry the first aid kit. The team safety officer will assist the manager in reporting any injurys or safety concerns to the league safety officer. We ask the the TSO contact the leauge safety officer if items in the first aid kit need to be replaced.
UMPIRE
Often an overlooked aspect of the Little League program, umpiring is one of the most important. The volunteer umpire is as much a part of Little League as the volunteer manager, coach or concession stand worker. In the past, the brunt of umpiring duties has been a paid position through a local umpire association costing RRLL $35,000 to $40,000 each year. RRLL would like to change this by converting one division each season to volunteers.
REDROCK LITTLE LEAGUE hopes to build up a "pool" of qualified volunteer umpires, as many other communities have, that are willing to umpire Little League games on a regular basis. RRLL will provide all required training and equipment. If you are willing to umpire, whether you have experience or not, please contact us at redrocklittleleague@hotmail.com Paying umpires is a huge burdin on the league and forces the board to continue with additional fund raising events or increase the sign up fee. SCOREKEEPER
The home team for each game is responsible for keeping the official scorebook. Each team should have a qualified scorekeeper to perform these duties.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Board members are volunteers like everyone else in Little League. The Board of Directors are elected each year at the General Membership meeting, held the third Saturday of September at 5:00 PM at Dexter Park. Board members typically spend hundreds of hours preparing for and running the Little League season. If you have the time and dedication, please contant us to see if there is an open position or you can be nominated for next year's Board of Directors.
OTHER POSITIONS
There are literally hundreds of other volunteers that make Redrock Little League's season a success who are never recognized. Concession stand workers are critical to meeting the yearly budget. The Board of Directors forms many committees to organize events such as opening day, sponsors, equipment and many more. Any General Member may attend board meetings and join these committees. If you do not wish to become a board member, but are willing to help in any capacity, please contact us.
BACKGROUND CHECKS
All volunteers must undergo a background check for the safety of our children. In order to volunteer in any capacity, you must fill out a volunteer form and provide a copy of your ID. Each volunteer will be issued a photo badge.
The badges are new for the 2009 season. All parents and other volunteers will no longer have to question if a backgound check has been done because a volunteer will be provided with the badge upon clearing the back ground check. Volunteers are required to wear the badge when volunteering for RRLL.
