MISSION STATEMENT




The Original Richmond Half – Steppers Track Club’s mission is to provide young people of West Contra Costa County with the abilities needed to pursue excellence in track and field events. Our major focus is youth in elementary and middle school, but our track program is open to youth under the age of 18 years old. We stress events such as sprinting and other classic track and field events. Our purpose and major emphasis is to develop and stress personal discipline, team sprit, sportsmanship, and self esteem.Many of the Original Richmond Half- Steppers Track Club members are residence of the greater Richmond Community, and most are from single parent households. The Original Richmond Half-Steppers Track Club provides the opportunity for the youths of Richmond to have additional experiences, such as:


• Building Physical Character
• Providing an opportunity to learn and utilize athletic skills
• Participate in local and away community events, learning
preparation and traveling to locations in and out of state


The Original Richmond Half-Steppers believe through good physical health and a commitment to education and individual’s goals are more attainable.





ABOUT THE PROGRAM




The Original Richmond Half-Steppers Track Club's season is from October to July. From October to March, the coaching staff works with the youth on both mental and physical conditioning. In March they begin attending track meets in and around th Bay Area and Northern California. They practice three times a week for 2 hours.

Track meets are held on Saturdays and Sundays.

A major emphasis of the track club is to offer nutritional guidelines, body conditioning and training-geared specifically for the development of the young athlete. As a team the Half-Steppers participate in many competitions from local to state to national level events. Many of the youth have potential and possibilities of becoming elite athletes on the college or university level.

With that in mind, The Original Richmond Half-Steppers offer an after school tutorial program designed to aid any member that may encounter difficulty during their educational pursuits.





HISTORY



The Original Richmond Half-Steppers Track Club originated in 1968 as a community based organization. The team is comprised of Boys & Girls ages 6 to 18 years old. In that period of time the team has produced 50National Champions, 7 current National Football League members, 3 Attorneys, one of which is (Chris Darden), and one Superior Court Judge (Gloria Rynes) of Alameda County. Also, educators, state and county employees, along with a number of law enforcement officers. The Original Richmond Half-Steppers Track Club has served as a positive influence, where young people can receive the physical training needed to build strong bodies, the academic motivation to develop productive minds, and the spiritual guidance needed
to create an atmosphere of awareness and concern necessary to be models and leaders within the communtiy.
