The River City All-Stars competitive cheerleading squad was established in March 2002 by Heather DeLong.
The program was started to give individuals the opportunity to participate in a non-traditional sport that has never been offered in Muscatine. It will focus on teaching the fundamentals of cheerleading with an emphasis on teamwork, dedication, persistence, attitude, and determination.
A squad of 13, 6th-8th graders was selected in 2002 practicing in the McKinley school gymnasium. In 2003 several girls vied for a spot on the 6th-8th (Junior) or new 9th-12th (Senior) squad. With the additional squad and the program rapidly growing, we moved to our new location at Supreme Fitness where we have our own "cheer gym" and continue to grow. In 2004 new teams were formed; Pee-wees, Youth, Junior, JV, and Senior. We were thrilled to introdue a Mini team (for ages 3 years-5 years) in 2007.
River City Athletics was "born" in 2006-2007 with the intorduction of a new dance studio (River City All-Stars Dance), tumbling, and baton classes.
Along with building pyramids, this program builds character...teaching lessons that can be applied in everyday life.
River City is a for profit orgnization. RCA parents have formed a booster club that is non profit, this allows them to plan fundriasers to help the team members raise money for camp, competitions.
Look for the River City All-Stars in competitions throughout Iowa and across the nation. RCA will continue to make performances in Muscatine and surrounding areas.
