Baseball in San Quentin: Seagulls beat San Quentin Pirates!!!
June 22, 2006 --
Going into the showdown against the San Quentin Pirates, none of the San Francisco Seagulls (7-5) players knew what to expect. This was not any ordinary game for the Seagulls, they were taking on a team made up of state prisoners. Intially, nerves were getting the best of players, intimadation was a factor, but once the Seagulls stepped onto the field and were greeted by the opposing team, they realized something... It was just two teams getting together to play America's Pastime: Baseball!!!
After the first pitch was thrown, things settled down, the nerves had been put in check and the Seagulls were ready to play some baseball. Second Baseman Tom Ledda got things started off for the Seagulls, when he lined a single into left. The next hitter, OF Rashad Taylor doubled into the gap to score Lucchessi and make the score 4-0 Seagulls. Seagulls silenced in Carson City, Nevada!!!
July 15, 2006 --
Coming into the series against the Nevada Yankees, the San Francisco Seagulls were rolling. The Seagulls (13-8) had won 6 of their last 7 games, and they were clicking on all cylinders. All of their luck would change in the Sierra's, as the Seagulls dropped two of 3 games. Seagulls pitchers only allowed 10 runs in 26 innings of work, but a lack of timely hitting and situational defense played a role in the defeats.
Here is a game by game rundown of the Carson City, Nevada series.
