Coaches Announcement :
To SHS Wrestlers & Parents
Thanks for coming out for this year’s Springfield High school wrestling team. SHS wrestling has great tradition and we are coming into this year on our 3rd consecutive league title. We take tremendous pride in our team and all wrestlers must follow the following rules:
Athletes should avoid tobacco, alcohol, and drugs (year round). No hazing of any time will be tolerated. Wrestlers must maintain grades and be in good standing at SHS to be eligible. Wrestlers must not be late or absent from school to be eligible to compete. Dedication to your team and respect to your teammates, coaches, officials, and opponents is expected at all times.
The first day of practice will be Friday, November 20 and all wrestlers should be ready to go. Parent and Medical forms must be completed and turned in (attached). Drop forms early to Mr. Mazurek. You will get a lock to keep your gear and belongings secure. Bring fresh/clean clothes to every practice. Wear shorts, shirts, and wrestling shoes for indoor practice and bring extra clothes and sneakers for outside running every day.
Physical’s can be done by your family doctor or Dr. Sing will see them at his office on Saxer Ave. Call his office at 610-328-7262 to make an appointment. Cost is $20.00 CASH ONLY. No physicals at the school. If anyone on the team needs PIAA form, they need to bring the white multi-page filled in PIAA yearly physical form with them. They can get it at www.piaa.org – go under parents – forms - or have them come to my office and I will run them off one.
Listen to announcements for weight certification during week of 11/10 – 11/14. Hydration tests and weight certification are done to protect the health of our wrestlers. Tips for the test:
Avoid vigorous activity the evening before and the day of testing. Avoid caffeinated beverages several days before and the day of testing. On the day of testing drink a minimum of 500ml (17 oz) of fluid. Avoid any vitamin or mineral supplements 2 days prior and the day of testing. Be awake a minimum of 3 hours prior to testing. Do not eat 2 hours prior to testing
The Grappler Booster Club is a parent run organization that supports our wrestling program. They will be contacting you separately to seek your support. Live wrestling will begin after only 3 weeks of practice so everyone must get ready to compete
Thanks for your time and commitment. We look forward to a great season.
