History of the Steelers
Back in 2007 I was asked if I wanted to Head coach a atom rep team based in Burlington that their season was from april - august (Spring football). For many years we were always looking for a place to play spring football with no success. I even approached the HMFA to start something in the spring with no luck.
I accepted the position and began the recruiting process we had touched base with players that we knew would love to play at this level of competition with 25 of the 27 player roster coming from the Hamilton / Stoney Creek area .
and off we went to Burlington to coach the Atom Halton Invictas with Cindy Crichton bringing all of her enthusiasm and technology to get the team pumped up with fun and excitement she had her tunnel and fog machines mega phones banners , streamers and a 560 watts stereo to play the players favorite tunes . The Lady is a kook ,a good kook. I can hardly wait to see what’s in store for the Steelers
The season started off with some snags but we worked through the bumps and dedicated our time to developing the players encouraging dedication , discipline , commitment to excellence , hard work , sacrifice , goals , and rewards .All are life skills and values that are required on and off the field.
Our opponents were teams from across Southern Ontario with some very talented teams. We had managed to achieve a perfect 12-0 season winning the Ontario Championship.
After it was all over I had parents ask me why we could not take our team and have them play and represent their own City instead of going to Burlington. A very good question ,why . well there was no league to play spring football. Again I approached the HMFA and again with no luck .
That’s when I decide to just go for it and contacted the SCOFL league about putting a team together to represent Hamilton , we were unanimously accepted by the SCOFL members .
And the Steel City Steelers was created , some may have their opinions on why the Steelers were started but the truth is Hamilton has 490,280 population and with no options or an alternative place to play spring football in the Hamilton community.
I am very proud and excited that the Steelers program is here and what we are able to offer our players .We are building a great coaching staff of Olympic and ex professional Athletes that has the knowledge and experience of all levels of play and the understanding of what it takes to compete and achieve success .
Our goal is to give all our players the best football experience we can possibly give.
If you are near one of our games ,come on down to witness all the energy and excitement of STEELERS football.
Can You Feel The Heat.
