2009 Maroon and Gold Soccer Classic
Welcome to the Annual St. Sabina
Maroon and Gold Soccer Tournament

On behalf of the St. Sabina Sports Association and Tournament Directors, I would like to welcome all teams to St. Sabina for our annual Maroon and Gold soccer tournament. Thank you for your support and good luck!

General Information

1. Before your first game please go to the head tournament table, located on the left side of the concession stand to make payment arrangements, turn in team roster, and receive tournament updates.
2. Please remind parents and players that we are trying to promote good sportsmanship. So please have fun and cheer for your team but let the coaches, and coaches only, talk to the referees. Coaches will be responsible for the parents and players on their teams.
3. Please do not bring any food or drinks to the tournament. St. Sabina has a full concession stand with very reasonable prices. Players and coaches are allowed to bring their own drinks (water, sport drink, etc…). St. Sabina will be providing water jugs on each field for the players. Coaches, you may bring a cooler for use during your game.
4. Every effort has been made to accommodate all known conflicts. Rescheduling will be difficult. If you absolutely need to reschedule please email: stsabinasports@yahoo.com.
5. For field conditions please call 314.995.1569 or check the www.stsabinasports.com web site.
6. We will make every effort to keep the tournament standings and schedules updated on the www.stsabinasports.com web site.

Rules

1. North County CYC soccer rules will apply except where otherwise noted below.
2. Home team will be determined by coin-flip before the game. Home team will determine direction. Visiting team will center-off first half.
3. All games will consist of twenty-five (25) minute halves. In extremely hot weather, a break may be taken at the halfway point in each half to allow the players to rehydrate. This will be at the discretion of the tournament director (or his alternate) and the referees.
4. Free substitution. Both teams can sub on any goal kick. Teams can sub on their own corner kick or throw-in. If the possessing team subs on their corner kick or throw-in, the other team is also allowed to sub. Substitution is at the referee’s discretion during the last 2 minutes of play.
5. All games can end in a tie except semi-finals and finals. In semi-finals and finals that end in a tie there will be up to two – 5 minute overtimes with golden goal in effect. If teams remain tied after both overtimes, penalty kicks will determine the winner. Penalty kick process will follow the rules for “Knockout Competition” as outlined in the Archdiocesan CYC Soccer Rules Handbook.
6. Brackets are setup for pool play. Points will be awarded for each game. See point system on next page.
Point System
Win 5 points per win
Tie 2 points per tie
Goals 1 point per goal – maximum of 4 points
Shutout 1 point for shutout
Maximum points per game will be ten (10) points

Brackets

1. One (1) pool brackets – First and second place is determined by points.
2. Two (2) pool brackets – Top team in each pool (determined by points) will advance to the championship round.
3. Three (3) pool brackets – Top team in each pool (determined by points) will advance to semi-final round. There will be one wild card team which will be determined by most points of other teams left in all brackets. Match-ups in semi-final games will be determined by a coin-flip. The winners of both semi-final games will advance to championship round.

In the event that two teams are tied in points after pool play, the following will be used to break the tie.

1. Head-to-head
2. Least goals allowed
3. Coin-flip (we do not want to use ‘goals for’ which would encourage teams to run up the score)
