GENERAL GAME RULES
Game Lengths
• Games consist of (4) – 10-minute quarters. (Running clock except the last two minutes of each half). One minute break between periods.
Substitution Rules
• Officials will stop the game at the five-minute mark of each quarter for substitutions. The clear the bench rule is in effect at all levels.
• Coaches CAN substitute players at ANY time with the ref’s approval but ALL players MUST play at least 50 percent of the game.
Time Outs
• Coaches will have two time outs per half. Coaches will get one time out during overtime. Timeouts do not carry over into overtime.
Three Second Violation
• Is in effect for U10 and higher. Five second violations will be called for U9.
TRAVELING
• Will be called right away for all U9B and above. Traveling will be called at the referees discretion (competitive advantage) at the U7 division.
Fouls
• Players will get five fouls per game. After five fouls, that player will be disqualified. A team can continue to play if it has four players. If a team has just three players, it will result in a forfeit.
TECHNICAL FOULS
• If a coach gets three in a season, he will be suspended until a review is conducted by the WCAA Basketball Committee. Coaches who have three technicals COULD be barred from coaching for the remainder of the season. THIS YEAR REFEREES WILL BE ABLE TO GIVE PARENTS TECHNICAL FOULS.
EJECTIONS
• Players, coaches AND parents that are ejected are automatically suspended until a review is conducted by the WCAA Basketball Committee. Players and coaches ejected MAY be barred from participating for the remainder of the season.
Foul Shots
• Teams will shoot two foul shots if a player was fouled in the act of shooting and does not make the shot. If a player makes a shot while being fouled, he will be awarded one foul shot. The clock is stopped for all free throw attempts.
Free Throw Line
• U7, U9 free throw line will be moved in to 12 feet; All other age divisions, free throw line is standard 15 feet.
Overtime
• Teams will play one three-minute overtime period. If there is no winner after the three minutes are up, the teams will play a sudden death contest. First score wins!!!
Defensive Rules
Zone Defense
• Is NOT allowed U7, U9B or U10 girls; Zone IS allowed for all other divisions.
Double Teams
• Not allowed above the free-throw line for U7, U9B or U10 girls; Double teams are allowed for all other divisions.
Pressing
• There is no pressing for U7, U9B U10G divisions. Pressing is allowed in U-12 Rec in the last two minutes of each half ONLY and the last minute of overtime. Pressing is allowed in all other divisions at any time.
Backcourt defense
• There is NO backcourt defense for U7, U9B and U10G divisions. There is no backcourt defense in U-12 Rec UNTIL the final two minutes of each half. Backcourt defense IS allowed in all other divisions at any time.
For U-7 Only
• Players are only to guard the matching wrist bands. A player can not leave his wrist band to cover another player with a different color wrist band. If players are in the lane or a fast break occurs then the closest player to the action can try and stop the ball.
• No picks allowed.
COMPETITIVE DIVISION GAME RULES
Competitive Divisions will follow the Florida High School Activities Association guidelines on basketball WITH THESE FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONS:
• Games will consist of four 10-minute quarters. If a game goes into overtime, the teams will play a three-minute overtime period. If there is no winner after the first overtime, teams will play a sudden death. First team scores wins!!!! The clock is stopped for all fouls and out of bounds during the entire contest.
SUBSTITUTIONS
• Coaches are asked to play all of their players, but THERE IS NO 50 percent playing time rule. There is also no five-minute substitution break. COACHES ARE ALLOWED TO PLAY WHOM THEY FEEL WILL HELP THEIR TEAM.
• Teams ARE Allowed To Press, Play Backcourt Defense, Double Team
FOULS
• Players will get five fouls. After five fouls, they are disqualified for the remainder of the game.
FOUL SHOTS
• There is no limit for team fouls in a game.
TIME OUTS
