Senior Players and Parents
We are trying to finalize our end of season get together, but with the weather, and everything else going on, there have been constant conflicts.
We would like to thank all the players for their dedication to lacrosse. You are special group, and very easy to coach. It was great being with you, watching you improve, enjoying the game of lacrosse, and most of all, having fun! Eleven eighth graders will be leaving the program, and we wish you the best as you move on to high school. We will be watching for you and your accomplishments not only in lacrosse, but in many other areas. Good luck, and we will miss you.
Thank you to Laurie Milliken and Donna Riley for helping and organizing the special events. It went a long way!
And thank you Parents! We know it is not easy trying to get your daughter to a practice or game at 5:30. Your support is appreciated and we hope you enjoyed the season and had that “moment”. A good play, a goal, a first goal, good defensive play, good save, etc. That moment when your daughter comes over and says “Did you see my……….”
Special Moments that made our season fun!
During a down pour at the Belchertown playday, “Coach, do you know it is raining”
Not being able to tell Brianna and Bella apart, and Becca, Samantha and Brittany apart.
At a mid season practice after the run “Yes coach, we know, you were up at 4:30 this morning, ran 6 miles all up hill, and you are 108 years older than us!”
At Longmeadow, “Coach, there is a lot of fruit and healthy food in our tent, you should grab some” “What did you have” “5 Munchkins and a piece of licorice”
“Holy ……..” after a goalie dropped the ball on a fast clear
The play of the middies, the attack, goalies and the defense. The fast clears. The movement on the face offs. “The pass”
At Suffield, “Coach, we would win every game if you got us a field like this”
“Coach, I want to play defense” Less than a minute after putting her in, she comes running off the field. “ Defense is too hard!”
And from our loveable Coach Gendreau, who is becoming WGL’s version of Yogi Berra. (Ask your parents or grand parents if you don’t know who he is)
“I want you to use your racquet on both sides” “Don’t swing your racquet wildly”
“Hannah, come off the field.” “HANNAH, COME OFF THE FIELD” “HANNAH, I NEED YOU OFF THE FIELD NOW!” a player responds, Coach Gendreau, there is no one named Hannah on the team”
“Girls, we need you to keep the SIX clear. We don’t want you standing inside the SIX on defense.” “No one should be in the SIX unless you have the ball or are cutting through the SIX” It is actually called the EIGHT, referring to the 8 meter fan.
At Suffield, when the coaches were getting upset at the officials because of high checking and sticks in the sphere. Coach Gendreau offered to take care of the situation. “ I went over to them and complained about sticks in the ORBIT. I tried to explain the defender cannot have their stick in the ORBIT. They had no idea what I was talking about” Neither did we.
Thank you again!
Coach Lacas, Gendreau and O’Grady
