Steve Smith # 75
Position: General Manager, Head Coach
At the end of the Durham Chiefs’ play-off run last summer, Smith announced he would not be back with the club and was going to retire from OSBA completely. Wanting to spend more time with his family was a major part in his decision.. However, with a great support system at home and through the encouragement of family and friends to reconsider, Steve contacted a few former players to gage interest in helping develop a new team. While several offers came in to join other OSBA clubs, Steve knew what he wanted most – to get OSBA to 16 teams for the 2007 season. Accepting a second term as league President, Steve then turned to others who shared in his vision and worked diligently to make the team a reality. Smith brings several years worth of experience as an OSBA Assistant Coach and a true passion for this league. Optimistic about his team’s chances, he knows this is a true expansion team and expects the season to be full of ups and downs.

Jim Taylor # 34
Position: Assistant Coach
Jim is entering his 30th season as an umpire. A long-time supporter of the Whitby Minor Baseball Association (WMBA), Taylor also umpires high school, Canadian Collegiate, and Intercounty games. His involvement with OSBA has been steadily increasing the past few seasons. So when the opportunity came to join Steve Smith and Graig Andrew in developing this new team, Jim jumped in with both feet. Not only will he be able to increase his involvement within OSBA, he’ll also get a chance to coach a team for the first time and in the town he has supported for many years. Jim has been instrumental in securing several key sponsorships for the team, and as a result, his efforts have significantly reduced the team’s overall operating costs. While Taylor is also looking forward to a fun summer, he knows the team will have its work cut out for them in their inaugural season.
