SENTINELS PLAY THEIR CARDS RIGHT AND FIND THEMSELVES IN THE FINALS
July 25, 2007

The Sentinels, seeded 5th in the silver bracket took on the 4th seeded Warriors of Waubousie Valley in Match 1. A weak Warrior serve receive led to an easy Sentinel victory 25-11, 25-12. Advancing to the winners bracket, the Sentinels faced the Huskies of Naperville North #3. In Game 1 the Sentinels came out of the gate strong and convincingly won 25-17. Game 2 turned into a nail-biter as the Huskies rallied to make the game close, but the Sentinels refocused and put the Huskies away 25-23. The win put the Sentinels in the Silver Bracket finals to face the Porters of Lockport.
SENTINELS FALL IN THE FINALS TO THE PORTERS

The Sentinels found themselves in the Silver Bracket Finals against their friendly foes, the Porters of Lockport. Lockport's hard serving attack allowed the Porters to quickly run away with Game 1, 14-25. Nevertheless, the Sentinels bounced back and played a fairly clean game to push Lockport; but eventually losing Game 2, 22-25. The Sentinels finished the 32-team summer league tournament in a respectable 10th place.
SENTINELS LOOKING TO GET BACK ON TRACK

The Sentinels expereinced a challenging day on the court as they moved up and faced steady competition on Court 3. Incoming freshman Alexa Radizwon got valuable expereince with a new team as she was asked to take over the setting duties in the abasence of junior setter Angel Kokoszka. The Sentinels had a tightly contested first match that ended in a split decision against the Wildcats of Neuqua Valley 23-25, and 25-21.
In Match 2, the Sentinels faced a tough serving Batavia squad. The Sentinels lost Game 1, 16-25, but bounced back in Game 2. Down 22-24, junior Sam Duda served up two aces and connected on a third serve to push the Sentinels to game point at 25-24, Duda's next serve caught the tape of the net, and fell on the Sentniel side of the court. The score now at 25-25, Batavia rattled off two serves to take the match.
Obviously frustrated by the lost in Match 2 the Sentinels made numerous unforced errors in Match 3 against the scrappy team from Addison Trail and split the match 16-25, 25-23 to finish third in the pool.
This Wednesday, the Sentinels are looking to finish summer league on a positive note when they begin bracket play in the Silver Division. The Sentinels will play a tough Naperville North team at 4:30 pm.
WESTMONT KEEPS THE BALL ROLLIN' IN SUMMER LEAGUE POOL PLAY

Wednesday night the Sentinels came up with a solid performance at the Great Lakes Summer League Tournament by sweeping the pool with a 3-0 match record! Strong serving and a smooth transition game led the way in macth 1 against Wheaton Warrenville South with impressive scores of 25-7 and 25-12. In match 2, the Sentinels faced the Chargers from Aurora Central Catholic. The dominating play from the first match was not as consistent in match 2, but the Sentienls remained in control of each game, winning 25-18 and 25-12. The last match of the night set the stage for a tough contest against the Blazers from Addison Trail. Although Addison Trail came out with strong hitting from the outside, the steady Sentinel defense was able to fight off the Blazer attack, taking the match 25-23 and 25-19. This Wednesday the Sentinels will move up to Pool C and find themselves in a rematch with the Montini Broncos!
WESTMONT FINISHES 2-1 AT FIRST SUMMER LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
July 6, 2007

With a 2-1 record on the first night of the Great Lakes JV Summer League Tournament, the Sentinels finished in second place behind the Montini Broncos. In game 1 of match 1, the jitters and nervousness led to 11 service errors and a final score of 15-25. In game two, the team seemed to settle down, and played competitively. The score remained tight at 18-20, but the Broncos' consistenet zone serving picked away at the Sentinel serve receive, ending the match with a 20-25 score.
In match 2, the Sentinels faced a scrappy team from Morris. In game 1, strong serving by Jessica Possidini and Nicole Lubeck helped the Sentinels to pull ahead and take the game with a score of 25-20. By the second game, everyone seemed to contribute in the serving department, making the game an easy win for the Sentinels with a 25-14 final score. Great Sentinel defense along with aggressive, and smart hitting also made it difficult for Morris to stay close in game two.
In the last match of the night, the Sentinels took on Batavia, the number 1 seeded team in the pool. Batavia came out strong and was up for the fight, but the Sentinels were now in a good rhythm ending the night by knocking off Batavia 25-18, and 25-14.
Great job and thanks for all the parents who came out and supported the team! Play will continue on Wednesday July 11th.

SUMMER CAMP ENDS AND CONDITIONING BEGINS!

After three weeks and 45 hours of fundamental volleyball training, camp has ended, but the training has not! The coaching staff has implemented a workout schedule for the month of July that includes weightlighting, summer league games, and open gym.
