2016 Bridgeport Bombers Softball Coaching Staff

Janet Galvin Director of Softball Operations 

Janet is the Director of Softball Operations for the Bridgeport Bombers and very active member of the coaching staff. She is responsible for player development for all teams.  Janet brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and energy to the Bombers Program. 

Janet graduated from Lewis University, where she played softball on scholarship and was also a member of the volleyball team. At Lewis, she was a 3 time MVP, and was selected to the Great Lakes Valley Conference teams 3 times. In 1992, Janet was inducted into the Lewis University Hall of Fame. 

Janet attended Lourdes High school where she played several sports. She was inducted in the Girl’s Catholic Athletic Conference (GCAC) Hall of Fame in 2005. 

In addition to fast pitch experience, Janet has extensive experience in 16” slow pitch playing for south side powerhouse teams like Desparados-Rose n Crown, Shinnick’s Bad Attitude, and Wilson. In 2008, Janet was inducted into the 16” Softball Hall of Fame. 

Janet has had stellar playing career and has coached many young athletes for the past 35 years. Janet is currently employed by the City of Chicago. She and her husband Jim, have two children, James who is finishing his studies to be a Chiropractor at Logan University and daughter Julie is a senior at Saint Mary’s College Notre Dame, Indiana majoring in Communicative Disorders/Pre-Med. 

“I am so proud of the Bridgeport Bombers Softball Program. This program is one of a kind. It is run, and coached by current and former players who love the game and have a deep commitment and passion for training and teaching the next generation of softball players.” 

The Bombers program is excited to have Janet directing this program and we look forward to more exciting things in 2016! 

Marcy Corbett Strength & Conditioning Coach 

Marcy is currently entering her 2nd year as a Bombers Coach. In 2015 Marcy joined the Bombers staff as Strength & Conditioning coach and brought a well of experience and energy to our program. 

Marcy Corbett graduated from Morton West High School in 2004. After graduation, she went onto DePaul University where she received a full ride softball scholarship. Marcy was recruited for her offense and earned the starting 1st base position her sophomore year. 

In the 2004/2005 season her team went to the Women’s College World Series after defeating Northwestern. She also received All Freshman Team and Academic Honor Roll honors that year. In her sophomore year, she received the NFCA Second Team All Mid-East Region Honor, Big East Player of the Week recognition and was on the Academic Honor Roll. 

The 2006/2007 season was the best season for the Blue Demons. In the Super Regionals that year, DePaul defeated number one ranked Oklahoma to advance to the Women’s College World Series and finished 6th in the country that year. Marcy’s senior year, Cat Osterman was her assistant coach, and she was able to learn from one of the top softball players in the world. That year the Blue Demons won their Conference Tournament and played against the Olympic Team. 

In both, Marcy’s junior and senior year, she maintained being on the Academic Honor Roll. Marcy kept a 3.3/4.0 G.P.A throughout college and while traveling with softball. She majored in Sport and Fitness Management and graduated in June of 2008. 

After graduation, Marcy went onto coach travel softball. She coached the Lemont Rockers 16U, Orland Park A’s 18u and Orland Park Magic 16u teams. She also provides private softball lessons and private training lessons; where she specializes in offensive/defensive mechanics and softball specific training exercises.

Currently, Marcy works at Morton West High School and is the Reassessment Center/Lab Coordinator and head Varsity softball coach. 

She is married and has a step son. The Bridgeport Bombers are pleased to have Marcy Corbett back in 2016 for an exciting year!   

Frankie Castagna Head Coach 12u -1st team

Frankie is in her 3rd year as a Bombers Coach. She was the head coach for the 10u team in 2014, and coach for the 12u team in 2015. IN 2016, Frankie will be the head coach for the 12u-1st team and will spend time working with all the teams. Frankie is currently a Senior- majoring in Athletic Training at Lewis University.  She is a member of the softball team where she plays 2nd base. Frankie attended De La Salle Institute, where she was a 4-year Varsity starter on the softball team. Frankie also played basketball at De La Salle. Frankie was named to the Girls Catholic Conference team her senior season in both basketball and softball. Also In her Senior year at De La Salle Frankie was awarded by the Illinois High School Association, the “Do What’s Right- Sportsperson of the Year” Award.  This award is presented by the IHSA to a student-athlete of a member school who exemplifies positive sportsmanship while interacting with opposing fan, and players. 

Castagna said “I am excited to have the opportunity to coach under Director Galvin and have the opportunity to work with these young athletes.” 

Kelly Crowley  Assistant coach all levels 

Kelly is in her 2nd year as a Bombers Coach. Kelly coached the 12u team in 2015.  Kelly is currently a senior at Roosevelt University where she is majoring in Elementary Education. Kelly is a left handed first baseman on the Roosevelt Softball team.  In her 1st season, Kelly was a CCAC Second Team All-conference selection.  Kelly attended De La Salle Institute, where she was a 4-year Varsity starter.  She received Girls Catholic Athletic (GCAC) and Academic Conference honors her junior and senior year. Kelly was also a four year starter on the De La Salle Meteor basketball team.  Kelly has extensive travel softball experience playing with the Chicago Rockets and Chicago Out Burst. “I am looking forward to a great 2016. 2015 was a fun year, getting to know and working with the girls. We improved every time we took the field.” The Bombers are excited to have Kelly back in 2016 and look forward to a great year with Coach Kelly. 

Nicole Kappelman Assistant coach all levels 

Nicole is also in her 2nd year as a Bombers Coach. She coached the 12u team in 2015. Nicole is currently a senior at Lewis University in Romeoville where she is majoring in Elementary Education. Nicole is an outfielder on the Lewis Flyer softball team. She attended Naperville Central High School, playing softball all 4 years. Nicole has extensive travel ball experience having played for The Bulls/Sox training academy, Stone City, and the Homer Hawks.   Nicole’s experience will be a tremendous asset for the Bombers in 2016.
