Daytime CanSkate

  • Our Daytime Canskate program is a fun, learn-to-skate program.
  • Daytime Canskate classes are offered in the early afternoon session.
  • Parent participation on the ice is not required.  Parents may opt to skate with their child on the ice until their child is comfortable skating on their own.  Please Note - a Skate Canada membership must be purchased at registration time for each adult planning skate with their child.
  • The program fee covers both the ice and coaching fees.
  • Well fitted, sharpened skates, warm clothing including mitts or gloves, and an ice helmet (no bike helmets) are mandatory.

CanSkate - Adult & Tot

  • The Canskate Adult & Tot program introduces children to the fun and enjoyment of skating.
  • Adult & Tot classes are only offered in the evening.
  • For each lesson, the child must be accompanied on the ice by an adult wearing skates (no shoes are allowed).  Please Note - a Skate Canada membership must be purchased at registration time for each adult planning skate with their child.
  • The program fee covers both the ice and coaching fees.
  • Well fitted, sharpened skates, warm clothing including mitts or gloves, and an ice helmet (no bike helmets) are mandatory.

 

CanSkate Stages 1 through 6

  • CanSkate is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program which focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development.
  • Lessons are given in a group format and led by NCCP certified professional coaches.
  • Skaters progress at their own rate and badges are awarded as participants achieve fundamental skating skills.
  • The coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, music and a wide variety of activities.
  • Coaches are assisted by trained Program Assistants.
  • Each stage is divided into three fundamental areas: Balance, Control and Agility. 
  • Ribbons are achieved at the completion of the fundamental skills at each level and badges are awarded at the completion of all three fundamentals in each of the six levels. 
  • The program fee covers both the ice and coaching fees.
  • Well fitted, sharpened skates, warm clothing including mitts or gloves, and an ice helmet (no bike helmets) are mandatory.

 

Bridging

  • Bridging is a recreational figure skating program designed for small group instruction for skaters wanting to move beyond Canskate and learn the basics of free skate and dance.
  • It is recommended that skaters complete stage 4 or higher in CanSkate before progressing into Bridging however it is not required. 
  • Skaters can register for this program as long as they have not yet passed all their preliminary STARSkate dance tests.
  • The program fee covers both the ice and coaching fees.

Junior STARSkate

  • Junior STARSkate is for skaters who are ready to move on to private figure skating lessons. Completion of Canskate Stage 6 is recommended
  • This program is similar to the STARSkate program but is intended for the junior figure skater, making the transition.
  • Semi-private of small group lessons are allowed and encouraged to foster a fun learning environment while keeping it more cost-effective. 
  • The program fee covers ice fees only.  Coaching fees will be invoiced by the coach and are paid directly to the coach.

STARSkate

  • Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition – this is what STARSkate is all about!
  • STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance,
  • skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating.
  • Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada tests through a nationally standardized testing system.
  • STARSkate is taught by professional coaches in a semi-private or private lesson format.
  • The program fee covers ice fees only.  Coaching fees will be invoiced by the coach and are paid directly to the coach.
