Lucania Completes Undefeated MMSL Season - 2008 Playoff Champions!

Victory over the Blue Blazers in the MMSL playoff final was bittersweet for the Lucania Football Club. Despite the 3 - 1 victory for LFC in the MMSL playoff final, a cumulative record of 18 wins, zero losses and 2 ties in MMSL play, and a dominating 84 goals for and 14 goals against, Lucania's season came to an early end at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex yesterday evening.
For the second year in a row, Lucania will be sitting out the Challenge Cup tournament, Canada's top amateur soccer tournament, as Lucania failed to advance in MSA Cup action earlier this summer.
"We have already begun preparations for a successful 2009 campaign" stated Lucania President, Mike Nardiello.
"For the first time, Lucania will compete in indoor action as a team and we are hoping our team cohesiveness will continue to evolve over the winter. Overall we had a very successful summer but at the end of the day, Lucania has its sights on the Challenge Cup."
LFC will be looking eagerly toward the 2009 season where we will be hungry to return to Saskatoon to repeat our National Championship victory from the year 2000.
Lucania would like to wish all the teams representing Manitoba at their respective club championship tournaments the best of luck. A special note goes out to the Bonivital Soccer Club contingent, Lucania's youth affiliate club!

Lucania narrowly averts semifinal defeat - Will face Blue Blazers in MMSL Final

LFC crafted a come-from-behind victory in the MMSL playoff semi-final match, defeating FC Lusitania by a score of 2 - 1. After a goalless 1st half, Lusitania took the lead with 25 minutes remaining in the game. Jordan Goetting brought Lucania on level terms, scoring off of a goalmouth scramble from a Lucania corner kick. Dalibor Planinac scored the decisive goal with minutes remaining after a sequence of clever passing from Lucania.
LFC Head Coach Paul Clarke was full of praise for the Lucania effort stating "it was encouraging that we were able to keep our composure and secure the win even after going down a goal in the later stages of the game."
Lucania will square off against the Blue Blazers who are capping off a very successful 2008 campaign. The Blue Blazers are newcomers to the Premier League and have had a string of recent successes, including a run of results which helped them stave off relegation and has seen the youthful club advance all the way to the playoff finals.
Lucania enters the final with an undefeated record of 17 - 0 - 2 in MMSL play with Lucania's only defeat of the summer coming in the MSA Cup quarterfinals back in August. Lucania have tallied a league leading 81 goals for and have conceded 13 goals in MMSL action.
It promises to be an entertaining conclusion to the 2008 MMSL season!

Before stepping onto the field in round 16 action, Lucania F.C. was officially crowned the MMSL champions for 2008. With a 3 - 1 loss to Winkler by 2nd place Hellas, Lucania were already assured of securing the top of the league table. Led by a 4 goal performance from Nano Romero, Lucania went on to defeat Celtic F.C. and further seperate the club from the rest of the pack in the standings.
With two games remaining in regular season play, Lucania will be working to finish the season on a positive note. We will be looking eagerly toward the 2009 season where we will be hungry to return to Saskatoon to repeat our National Championship victory from the year 2000.
Spitfire Sweep Lucania

Despite having the home field advantage, Lucania were unable to register a goal against the PDL's Sioux Falls Spitfire this past Saturday evening at Memorial Park. The Spitfire shut Lucania out on way to a 1-0 victory for the visiting team.
Commenting on the disappointing loss, Lucania Coach Paul Clarke stated "I thought that they (the Spitfire) took the game to us in the first half but we stayed organized and gave them very few chances. We created more in the second half and had opportunities to tie the game. If we finish one of those chances, I think we would have really taken charge of the game and pushed for the win. Unfortunately, they finished and we didn't, and that was the difference."
Lucania are now set to face MMSL leaders, the Sons of Italy on July 13th at Memorial Park in what will likely prove to be a crucial result for both teams.
In other results, the Bonivital U18 Men defeated the MMSL's Lusitania by a score of 3-1 and the Bonivital U18 Women defeated the WWSL's Team United 2-1.
Spitfire Winner a Harsh Blow for Lucania

The Sioux Falls Spitfire's Daniel Herrera broke a 1-1 deadlock in the 86th minute to lead the Sioux Falls Spitfire to a 2-1 victory over Lucania. The Spitfire opened the scoring midway through the first half when Juan Carciente bent his twenty-yard free kick past Lucania goalkeeper Jaimi Alpestana. Alpestana had little chance on the free kick as Carciente placed his effort out of the Lucania goalkeepers reach.
Lucania defended well, allowing the Spitfire a precious few opportunities which were mostly the result of set pieces. The Spitfire were unable to break down Lucania's midfield and defense and were forced to play long balls into the Lucania area which were comfortably cut out by the Lucania back line. Lucania's resilience was rewarded at the end of the first half when Franco Cassano made a break down the right wing and scored on a half-breakaway deep into injury time.
The second half saw Lucania take more control of the game. Again the Spitfire were held to limited chances, while Lucania were pushing men forward, playing for the coveted "road win". Despite Lucania's initiative to push for the win, the Spitfire were able to break the tie when a poor clearing attempt from a Spitfire corner was collected at the top of the Lucania box by Daniel Herrera. Lucania were unable to close Herrara down as he blasted his shot into the top corner. While disappointing for the Lucania players, it truly was a commendable finish.
Lucania finished the game pushing for an equalizer, throwing virtually every player on the field forward in a desperate attempt to level the score. As usual, the Sioux Falls Spitfire organization put on a wonderful show. The crowd of approximately 1,000 were treated to a great soccer match, and a spectacular 4th of July fireworks celebration. Lucania were happy to be part of the weekends festivities.

World Cup Soccer Finale

The Bonivital Soccer Club, in conjunction with the Lucania Football Club and Team United are pleased to present the World Cup Soccer Finale Weekend at St. Vital Memorial Park. The weekend will be comprised of three exhibition matches on Saturday, with the feature match between Lucania and the PDL's Sioux Falls Spitfire on Saturday evening. The final match will take place on Sunday morning, again between Lucania and the Spitfire.
Game 1 will feature the Bonivital Flames U18 Men vs. F.C. Lusitania of the Manitoba Major Soccer League's First Division. This should be a fast paced game, and a great opportunity for the Bonivital Men to showcase their ability against a formidable men's team. F.C. Lusitania has been moving up the MMSL divisions and in 2004 had an impressive MSA Cup run, making it all the way to the quarter finals of Manitoba's most coveted tournament.
Game 2 pits Bonivital Flames U18 Women vs. Bonivital's senior women's affiliate team, Team United. Team United play in the Winnipeg Women's Soccer League's Premier Division. United has represented Manitoba at two of the last five Senior Nationals and have been working hard this season to make the trip to Surrey BC for a third appearance at Nationals. Not to be outdone, the Bonivital Women have been having a successful campaign this season and will also be looking to test their skills against one of Manitoba's top female teams.
Game 3 features Lucania vs. the Sioux Falls Spitfire. The Spitfire play in the United Soccer League's developmental league, the Premier Development League. This league features several top college players as well as former professional players. This game will be high paced, intense, and arguably the highest caliber game of soccer in Winnipeg this summer.
As always, Lucania are looking forward to playing the Spitfire and will be looking to use these games as important preparation for the club's bid to win their 3rd straight and unparalleled 11th overall MSA Cup.

Another Challenging Weekend for Lucania

Lucania will have their hands full this weekend in Thunder Bay Ontario as they take on the PDL's Thunder Bay Chill, Ottawa Fury, and the local representative, Thunder Bay Italia-Juventus. The three-day tournament will be a grueling test for Lucania with three 80-minute matches on Saturday and a hopeful 90-minute final on Sunday.
Lucania faces Juventus at 9:00 am on Saturday morning, followed by a 1:00 pm kickoff against the Thunder Bay Chill. Lucania will round Saturday out with a 5:00 pm kickoff against the Ottawa Fury. (full schedule)

Chill Preparing for Tournament

The Chill announced details today surrounding the four-team, three-day tournament. Competing alongside PDL foes Thunder Bay and Ottawa are Winnipeg Lucania and Thunder Bay Italia-Juventus.
The Fury is entering their 2nd year of PDL action. Last season they played out of the New England division posting a record of 9-7-0. Winnipeg Lucania carries a familiar name in Thunder Bay as they return for a 2nd year. Lucania has won 11 Labour Day Tournaments since 1988 and is the 2nd most successful amateur club in Canada when it comes to winning. Lucania won their 10th MSA title last season and have captured two National titles since their inception in 1971.
Thunder Bay Italia Juventus has been re-building it’s team into the hopes of being the perennial power the name used to carry prior to the existence of the Chill. Last year the club battled in the local D-league and managed to come 2nd; however; the club did capture the Regiment Cup in 2005.
The Fury will bring credibility to the tournament; however, Winnipeg Lucania and Italia Juventus are no push-over. Both these teams have experience and talent and know how to win tournaments,” Chill coach Tony Colistro said. “We just want to have a highly-competitive tournament, something that’s going to, obviously, give us the preseason exhibition games that we need to have and something that will definitely be an attraction to the spectators.”
"We are delighted to accept this invitation from Thunder Bay to participate in the Chill Tournament as it is perfect pre-season preparation for us. Like most PDL teams we have new players on our roster and this is an excellent opportunity to see how they perform in a highly competitive environment. The tournament also gives us the chance to try different tactical formations which will prove extremely useful in preparation for our first league game," commented Fury Head Coach Colin McCurdy.
The tournament will kick off the May long weekend with the Fury and the Chill kicking off on Friday May 19 with the opening game. Game time is set for 7:00pm at Chapples Park. The final is set for Sunday May 21 at 1:00pm.

Lucania makes great strides, enduring memories in Omaha

Lucania made the ten-hour jaunt to Omaha Nebraska this past weekend and dropped games to both Creighton and Bellevue University. Playing Creighton University on a beautiful Saturday evening at Creighton spectacular Morrison Stadium, Lucania gave up a late goal in the first half to fall behind. The first half saw Creighton carry much of the play, with Lucania dropping off to give the young squad possession in their half of the field. Lucania was fairly well organized defensively, allowing a precious few chances and keeping the Creighton squad at bay.
Coach Clarke was able to move virtually all twenty of the Lucania players onto the field with the exception of a few players nursing injuries going into the weekend. Despite all of these changes, Lucania managed to stay fairly well organized and continued to limit the Creighton attack. As the game wore on, Creighton capitalized on the limited chances they were given.
On the other hand, Lucania squandered several golden opportunities at various points during the game. Being the first game of the season, Lucania was encouraged by the result and their ability to break down such an organized and athletic squad. Lucania was able to move the ball through the back and created several chances through some creative work by midfielder Nano Romero. First year players Tom Foderaro, Ivan Garcia, and Randy Samsoundar all saw a lot of the field and adjusted well to the extremely fast paced game and will be crucial additions to the Lucania roster this season.
Game 2 on Sunday morning against Bellevue was a similar result with a different storyline. Lucania was clearly the dominant team, passing the ball quite comfortably and generating a number of chances. Bellevue struggled to maintain any meaningful possession and early indications were that the more experienced Lucania squad would overpower the Bruins.
Lucania gave up two goals in the latter part of the first half on free kicks just outside of the Lucania penalty area against the run of play. Lucania was able to battle back into the game, scoring their first goal in the second half, which was quickly followed by a rather fortunate goal for Bellevue, which put the game out of reach. Lucania scored again late in the game but it was too little, too late.
Once again, Lucania played all twenty players on the roster and walks away from this weekend in good stead for the upcoming season. Despite the two losses, Lucania played with a tremendous amount of poise and confidence in both games. Perhaps more importantly, Lucania was thrilled to have played in two first class facilities and Lucania Management, players, and fans in attendance walk away with an unforgettable soccer memory.
Lucania to take on Creighton University

Lucania will be traveling to Omaha Nebraska this weekend to take on Bellevue University and Creighton University. Originally, Lucania were scheduled to play Hastings College as a part of a three team tournament. Due to a scheduling change, Creighton will now replace Hastings.
Creighton University was the 8th ranked NCAA Division I school last season, bowing out in the Quarter Final round to Clemson in a 1-0 game. Creighton University has appeared in an impressive 14 straight NCAA tournaments, has had a total of 14 players drafted into the MLS and numerous other players playing in various professional leagues around the world.
Perhaps equally exciting, Lucania will be playing at the recently built Michael G. Morrison Soccer Stadium. The 6,000 seat stadium was completed in 2004 and has vaulted Creighton University into the top ten for NCAA attendance in the past two seasons.
Clearly one of the most formidable opponents Lucania has faced in the the history of the club, President Mike Nardiello states, "this trip will be a great learning experience for all of our players. Not only do we get to play one of the top University teams in the United States, but we will be fortunate enough to play at one of the best soccer facilities in North America."
Veteran defender Bill Klymchuck adds "we are not quite sure what to expect from this weekend but we are eager to play against two teams of such calibre. It will be an exciting trip for us and a good chance for us to get together as a team."

"Vaske is one of the top two or three players in the province,if not the top player", said Clarke. "Vaske has tremendous vision and is absolutely dynamite with the ball at his feet."
"Vaske will help us in all kinds of areas and I am extremely excited that he chose to come to Lucania." G.M. Mike Nardiello was also happy. "We've been trying to get these guys, and Vaske in particular for years now", said Nardiello.
"His composure on the ball and his pure soccer abilities are well known throughout our league, and Lucania is elated that he will be in our line-up this coming season."

The Lucania Football Club is extremely pleased to announce that Hernan (Nano) Romero, Vasilile (Vaske) Komlenovic, and Fabricio Mendes have committed to play with Lucania for the upcoming season. All three players were part of the Sokol Soccer Club last year.
"We are very excited with the prospects of having these guys in our line-up", said Lucania president Mike Nardiello. "These players bring a very high level of skill to our team, and we are hopeful that by adding these guys we can bring another national title back to Manitoba", said Nardiello.
Team captain Rob Gale was also excited at the prospects of playing with these new players,"these lads offer the club an opportunity to play the game at a much higher level. They will change the on-field dyanmics of our team significantly and I think we all look forward to playing with them. It will no doubt be an exciting year for Lucania."
Of note, Nano Romero was born and raised in Winnipeg and played his youth soccer with the Bonivital Flames. He was a member of the under 15 Manitoba Provincial team. Nano then left Canada in pursuit of a professional playing career in Chile were he was a part of numerous professional clubs.

Lucania Finalizes Exhibition Schedule - Adds College Showcase Games

Lucania are pleased to announce that the club will open the 2006 season with a pair of exhibition games in Bellevue, Omaha against Bellevue University and Hastings College. The exhibition tournament will take place on April 22nd and April 23rd. The tournament is being hosted by Bellevue University.
Both Bellevue and Hastings are part of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Hastings College finished the 2005 season ranked 8th nationally, and has reached the final four in both 2003 and 2005. Hastings’ overall record for 2005 was 19-2-3.
Bellevue finished the 2005 season ranked 17th nationally, falling just shy of qualifying for the 2005 NAIA National Championship by losing in their regional final. Bellevue had an overall record of 18-3-0.
Lucania looks forward to these games from a number of perspectives. Coach Paul Clarke is eager to give his younger players exposure to these schools, stating “our number one priority for this trip is to showcase our younger players to these schools. Hopefully this will translate into some opportunities for these guys.”
Well in advance of the May kickoff to the regular season, Lucania anticipates adding several new players to the roster and will see a mix of younger and more senior players from other MMSL squads. Coach Clarke adds that “our second priority will be to give our team a chance to gel in advance of the Thunder Bay Chill tournament. There will be a lot of new faces to the team this year and it will be important to give the guys a weekend together to get to know one another on and off the field.”
Lucania President Mike Nardiello sees the weekend as a double edged sword for Lucania, stating “we were happy to set up these games. Hastings and Bellevue will be great competition for our team. At the same time, we are at risk of losing some of our younger players should Hastings or Bellevue take an interest. In the long run, this is a positive thing for Lucania as they will come back to our team as more experienced, matured players.”
Lucania views these games as a positive step, particularly in light of the relationship with Bonivital Soccer Club. Nardiello adds further “should there be a need to fill the roster out for this weekend, we would consider adding some youth players to give them some exposure to this level of soccer and a chance to meet some college coaches.”

Lucania Recieves Invite To Thunder Bay Chill Invitational
The Lucania Football Club is pleased to announce that the team has received and accepted an invitation to travel to Thunder Bay, ON to participate in the 2nd Annual Thunder Bay Chill Invitational Tournament. The tournament will take place on the Victoria Day long weekend, May 20, 21, and 22. The tournament will include the PDL's Thunder Bay Chill and Ottawa Fury, Lucania, and a fourth team that has yet to be decided.
"We were very happy to accept the invite to the Chill's tournament", said GM Mike Nardiello. "We played very well in this tournament last year and I guess thats why we were invited back".
Club head coach Paul Clarke was also happy to have the team participate in the pre-season tournament, "these games will allow our team to get some high level competition early for the upcoming MMSL season, said Clarke. "It's also nice to get the team away and allow them to gel a little bit", stated Clarke.
Vetrean defender Russ Harder was happy to hear that the team had accepted the invitation as well, "those games against good opposition allow us to go into the year in pretty good form, said Harder, "it's a good challenge for us and it also allows us to face some teams that we wouldn't normally see!"
"These games will probably be it as far as our exhibition schedule", said Nardiello. "We do have some other irons in the fire in terms of playing some top level teams and if anything is confirmed, we will announce it on the site! We are always trying to push our players to play better teams and at a higher level, and these games against PDL teams will allow our players to do that", said Nardiello.
Lucania to Take on Spitfire

The Lucania Football Club is very pleased to announce a series of 3 exhibition games versus the Premier Development League's Sioux Falls Spitfire. Lucania will travel to Sioux Falls and play the Spitfire on July 2, with the two squads returning to Winnipeg to play two games on July 8th and 9th.
"These games are the product of the tremendous relationship our club has established with the Spitfire organization over the last 4 or 5 years", stated LFC GM Mike Nardiello.
"These games allow the guys to face a quality team which is used to playing at high level comparable to that which we would see at the nationals", said 2nd year coach Paul Clarke.
The location of the home games is tentatively set for St.Vital Memorial park.
Gold Medal on the Line

Months of preperation and anticipation will come to an end tomorrow afternoon when Lucania take on Alberta's Calgary Dinos in round robin play at the Challenge Cup. The game is a must win for Lucania as Alberta defeated Saskatchewan 5 - 2 today. Having yet to play a minute at this years tournament, Lucania are eagerly awaiting the 2:30 kickoff at the University of Calgary field.

In other action today, Manitoba's female representative, Sweat Shack, were defeated by BC 7 - 0. The girls have tomorrow off and resume play on Saturday afternoon.
Lucania Draws first game vs Alberta

Lucania took on the Calgary Dino's today at the challenge cup with the two teams battling to a hard fought 1-1 draw. Lucania opened the scoring in the 25th min as Mike Kolinski finished off a pass from Franco Cassano. Lucania carried much of the play but were kept on their heels as the Dino's had a very potent arial attack.
Dressing at least 7 starters that were 6' or taller the Dino's launched ball after ball into the LFC box. The Lucania defense and keeper Brian Oleksiuk dealt with the challenge very well and Lucania looked as if they would garner full points from the game. Lucania missed several chances which would have put the Dino's away but as is usually the case when you miss the other team makes good on one of their chances and in the 75th min a Dino midfielder collected the ball about forty yards from the LFC goal and let off a cracker of a shot from about 30 yards out that beat keeper Oleksiuk.
Lucania stepped up the pressure and missed a couple more golden opportunities. The result wasn't the one that the club wanted but still leaves Lucania with a chance to move into the semis. The boys must now go out and beat Saskatoon Arsenal by 3 goals to advance as the Dino's topped Arsenal 5-2 in their game. This leaves Lucania needing either a 3-0 or 4-1 victory to advance on goal difference. Go on lads we know you have it in you!

Lucania Claims MMSL Title

In a fitting finally to the 2005 MMSL season, Lucania captured the Manitoba Major Soccer League title yesterday at St. Vital Memorial Park against the Sons of Italy. It was a "must win" scenario for both teams and produced a cautious but entertaining game.
Lucania opened the scoring mid way through the first half when Herbie Blackwood burst down the right side of the Sons of Italy defense. Blackwood slipped the ball across to his attacking partner Tim Colosimo who slid the ball into the Sons of Italy goal past the oncoming goalkeeper.
Moments later, Lucania scored their second through a spectacular individual effort from Rob Gale. Gale took on several Sons of Italy players at the edge of the Sons of Italy penalty box, created a shooting lane, and drove a left footed shot back across the Sons goal, beating the outstretched keeper. The first half finished 2-0 in favour of Lucania.
The second half saw Sons of Italy trying to force the play to Lucania. They were succesful in generating a lot of corner kicks but most were handled by Lucania goalkeeper Brian Oleksiuk. Sons were able to break the shut out in injury time but to no avail.
Lucania finishes the 2005 MMSL season with a record of 18 wins, 1 loss and 3 ties. Lucania scored on their opponents 72 times while allowing only 13 goals against.
Lucania now looks eagerly towards the MMSL playoffs which will take place towards the end of September. More importantly, we have our sights clearly set on winning the club's 3rd National Championship in Calgary over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
Lucania will be holding a fundraising social on September 30 at the Empire Cabaret. Tickets will be $10.00 and include $5.00 cover charge to the club and your first drink.

Big Weekend for Lucania at Memeorial

Lucania faces their biggest weekend yet as the race for first place in the Manitoba Major Soccer League's Premier division heats up with a critical match between first place Winnipeg Lucania (7-0) and third place Sokol SC (4-1-0). Lucania will take on Sokol on Friday evening at Memorial Park at 7:00 pm.
Lucania will then meet the Premier Development League's Sioux Falls Spitfire in exhibition play on Saturday evening at 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm. Both games will be played at Memorial Park. The Spitfire are in the PDL's Heartland Conference. Fans can anticipate fast paced, entertaining games this weekend at Memorial.
Lucania President Mike Nardiello stated "our match against Sokol Friday night could prove to be significant in determining the League Championship but it is still early in the season. We are certainly looking for a result on Friday night. The games against the Spitfire will be the highlight of soccer in Manitoba this summer and we are looking forward to taking on the Spitfire here in Winnipeg."
Midfielder Serge Bohemier echoed Nardiello's comments stating "the PDL is definitely a step up for us and the Spitfire will have 20 phenomenal athletes on their team. We will have to match them physically, technically and tactically to get results. It will be a big test for us and a great weekend."

Lucania takes on Sioux Falls...
On another note, Lucania made the short trip down to Sioux Falls SD on Saturday morning and took on the PDL's Sioux Falls Spitfire. In front of 1,300 Spitfire faithful, the home team took the game to Lucania and capitalized on their chances, including a penalty shot and a debatable (offside) goal at crucial moments in the game. Lucania showed great resolve and battled to get back into the game right to the final whistle. Goalkeepers Brian Oleksiuk and Steve Benevides shared duty in the game and stood tall in the goal for Lucania. The final score was 4-1 in favour of the hosting Sioux Falls Spitfire. Lucania's goal was scored by veteran defender Russ Harder.
Lucania bounced back from the disappointing loss and defeated the Spitfire 2-0 on a blistering day in front of a crowd of 1,000, including the six Lucania fans who made the trip from Winnipeg (thanks Owen, Hadyn, Tracy, Erin, Jillian and Yvonne). Lucania carried much of the play and was able to shut the Spitfire down, limiting their chances and creating opportunities from the Spitfire mistakes. Lucania goals were scored by midfielder Rob Gale who's 35 yard cannon found the top corner of the Spitfire goal. Herb Blackwood finished the Spitfire off in true Herbie style by neatly tucking a ball past the oncoming goaltender Danny Padilla on a half breakaway. Lucania defender Tim Browaty initiated the play by providing a great through-ball to Blackwood who never looked back.
The Spitfire will be making a trip to Winnipeg on July 9 and July 10 to finish off the exhibition series for Lucania. These will be highly entertaining, fast paced games. Don't miss the action!
Lucania's Season Taking Shape...

First Road Trip Big Success under New Coach Patrick Di Stefani.
The month of May has been extremely busy for Lucania and the squad made some very important strides this past weekend at the Thunder Bay Chill Invitational both on and off the field. Perhaps most importantly, it was the first concentrated time that the group has had together under newly announced head coach Patrick Di Stefani. Coach Di Stefani is taking over at the helm after Kevin Mackay's resignation (health related issues).
Commenting on the transition, veteran goaltender Brian Oleksiuk commented "Kevin is one of the most fierce competitors I know and it is obviously a blow to lose such a quality leader. On the other hand we are extremely fortunate to have someone as experienced, knowledgeable, and perhaps equally hungry as Patrick as a coach. The guys have bought into Patrick's ideologies and this was clearly evident in the progress we made game to game in Thunder Bay this weekend."
Echoing Brian's comments, Mike Nardiello stated "we are delighted to have Patrick on board. It will take some time for everyone to adjust but I am confident that Patrick is the right guy for the job."
Lucania's trip to Thunder Bay proved to be invaluable. The highlights of the weekend include a 2-1 loss to PDL runners up Boulder Rapids Reserve, a 1-1 round robin tie with the Thunder Bay Chill, and an eventual heartbreaking overtime loss to the Thunder Bay Chill in the semifinals. The Chill went on the win the tournament, defeating Boulder 2-0 in the final. Commenting on the tournament, Jordan Goetting stated "these games are far more valuable than any training sessions we could have had. Even though we were disappointed with our effort against Juventus, that game gave Patrick a chance to see a lot of our younger and new players play. It was fun to battle against the Chill and Boulder and I think they gained a tremendous amount of respect for our club and our ability after this weekend."
Lucania now looks forward to a string of MMSL games with our home opener against Maples Juventus on June 5th at 7:00 pm at Memorial Park. Winnipeg Lucania is pleased to announce that the club has finalized their roster for the upcoming 2005 season. There have been several changes to the roster this season including the addition of 4 new players and 2 returning players. Returning to Lucania after several seasons with Sokol SC are MMSL veterans Herb Blackwood and Howard Hyman. Both Blackwood and Hyman bring unique traits to Lucania as Blackwood has been arguably the league's most prolific goal scorer for the past 5 years. Hyman is a speedy, tenacious player who will help bolster Lucania's back line.
Also joining Lucania this season will be goalkeeper Steve Benevides, midfielder Ted Simeonidis, striker Martin Alvaro, and striker Kaboni Manishuri, each of whom will be expected to be a big part in Lucania's success this season.

Lucania's Marcello Paolucci Honoured at MSA Banquet

Lucania would like to congratulate Marcello Paolucci who was this years recipient of Senior Male Athlete of the Year at the Annual Manitoba Soccer Association Banquet.
Paolucci has been a long time captain of Lucania including leading the 2000 Lucania squad to a National Championship title. Paolucci was also a part of the Winnipeg Fury's Mita Cup winning team in the final year of existence of the CSL. Most recently, Paolucci has been working as the Technical Director for the St. Charles Soccer Association, which in addition to Paolucci's decorated career as both a professional and an amateur, made Marcello a natural candidate for the award.
The Frank Capasso Award of Merit - Senior Male Athlete of the Year - is awarded to an outstanding active senior male athlete, with involvement of at least ten years, who has exhibited excellent technical soccer skills, served as a team leader and demonstrated the principles of fair play and sportsmanship.
Commenting on Paolucci's award, president Mike Nardiello comments "Marcello's contribution to our club over the years is indescribable. He has been an invaluable leader both on and off the field. Marcello is without question one of Manitoba's all time greats and his achievements in the sport can speak to that. We are happy to have Marcello as part of our club and look forward to more great things from him."

English Premier League Academy to be launched in Winnipeg

The BoniVital Soccer Club is delighted to announce it will be opening a professional soccer academy to all its players over the age of U12 in the fall of this year.
BoniVital have secured the services of Score UK Soccer who in association with English Premier League side Fulham Football Club will be offering professional development opportunities the same as those offered to professional youths in the UK right here in Winnipeg.
The Score UK Fulham Academy will be the only professional EPL linked academy anywhere across Central Canada and only the fourth of its’ kind in North America – with Score UK having two successful Fulham Academies already running in Nebraska and Seattle. Many of their academy graduates are already playing college soccer in the USA and one player returned to the UK to tryout and train with the professional Fulham teams in London.
The overall aim of the academy is to develop players to a level where they will be able to play professionally in Europe, but Score UK also has strategic links with a number of NCAA Division 1 colleges and NAIA colleges in the USA where academy players - both male and female - will be offered opportunities to earn scholarships to American Universities and also North American professional franchise teams, should they not quite make the professional level for Fulham.
With BoniVital’s existing link-up to premier Winnipeg side Lucania FC already in place there is a clear route of progression for their male players from a very young age and now a definite incentive and development plan for their older teams to aspire to earn scholarships and/or a career in the game of soccer. The full time professional opportunities extend to the females as well as the males with Fulham ladies teams offering chances for girls to head to Europe continue to their education and still play and coach professionally in London at Fulham’s expense.
All in all the Score UK Fulham Academy coupled with BoniVital’s already thriving youth team system makes the club one of the most forward thinking and strategically well placed clubs anywhere in North America, and will provide opportunities for their players that currently do not exist anywhere else in Canada.
BoniVitals’ Score UK/Fulham Academy is set to begin in October but tryouts will be held in late summer and two pre-academy elite camps will be held in the summer. All details will be posted on the BoniVital soccer association website nearer the time.
Players interested in becoming an academy player will have to submit a cover letter and resume to the academy director before tryouts begin and parents and players will have to sign a strict code of conduct agreement before their position at the academy is confirmed.
Academy Director Robert Gale who himself came through the youth and academy system at Fulham FC promises the academy will be like no other soccer program currently available; “It is a complete soccer education for players, parents and coaches alike and we will develop the entire BoniVital soccer club system to the professional levels we are used to in Europe – they already have the infrastructure in place and we now aim to develop the top of their pyramid and at the very least offer college or semi-professional opportunities to their most talented players”: he said
Boni-vital Executive Director Laurie McIvor recognises the need to bring in outside sources to help take their club forward. “With the addition of Score UK Soccer and such a big club name as Fulham FC, we now have the opportunities in place for our coaches to get further education at the academy in London by sending them over to the UK and even more importantly we have clear routes of progression for our players with chances for them to earn very rewarding university college scholarships in the states and possible professional playing opportunities. It really is a unique opportunity for a club of our size and shows our ambition and determination to be leaders in the field of player development – we have tried for quite a while to put this infrastructure in place and are now very excited for our plans top be coming into fruition”.

Chill Kicks Off 1st Annual Invitational Soccer Cup

Peter Ambrose is planning the world’s largest family vacation. The Boulder Rapids Reserve general manager will rent two RVs, stuff 20 soccer players inside and drive 20 hours north to play the Thunder Bay Chill on May long weekend. He says he’s actually looking forward to it.
“We’ve been in the same conference as Thunder Bay for a long time, but we’ve never played them,” Ambrose said. “They have one of the most professional organizations in the PDL and they want the Boulder Rapids Reserve in Thunder Bay and they’re making it all happen.
“Yeah, I’m excited about it. It’ll be a great bonding trip early for our team.” The Chill announced details on Saturday surrounding the four-team, four-day tournament. Competing alongside PDL foes Thunder Bay and Boulder are Winnipeg Lucania and Thunder Bay Italia-Juventus.
It will be a formidable field taking the pitch at Chapples Park beginning May 20. The Reserve has lost two of the last three national PDL championships while Winnipeg is the 2000 Canadian amateur men’s champion. Italia-Juventus is one of the top two Thunder Bay clubs while the Chill expects to have a better team than last year’s 11-7-0 PDL club. But Boulder will certainly be the main attraction.
“It brings a little bit of credibility to the tournament,” Chill owner Tony Colistro said.
“We just want to have a highly-competitive tournament, something that’s going to, obviously, give us the preseason exhibition games that we need to have and something that will definitely be an attraction to the spectators.”
The tournament kicks off with the Chill facing the Rapids Reserve. While both teams have been around since 2000, they’ve never met due to travel restrictions. Franchises like Colorado, Kansas City and St. Louis — which all have teams in the PDL’s Heartland Division — never make the trip into Canada. Colistro invited Ambrose to the Chill’s fundraising dinner earlier this year and offered him the chance to be the first to cross the border.
Colistro wanted a top squad to test the Chill and break up the training camp grind. That mission is accomplished. Boulder lost 1-0 (on a goal in the final two minutes) to the Central Florida Kraze in last year’s PDL championship game. In 2002, the Reserve lost
2-1 in overtime to the Cape Cod Crusaders.
But none of those teams compare to this year’s side, Ambrose said.
“I have probably the most competitive team I’ve ever had in my six years,” he said. “I have players coming from all over the country.”
And by the end of May, they’ll have seen a whole lot more of it.
The tournament will kick off the May long weekend with Boulder and the Chill kicking off on Friday May 20 with the opening game. Game time is set for 7:00pm at Chapples Park. The final is set for Friday May 23 at Noon.
Tickets for the Invitational tourney can be purchased at the Soccer Plex or on our website. Day passes are $5.00 each or $15.00 for a weekend pass. Season ticket holders can pay $10.00 for their weekend pass.

Lucania is pleased to announce the return of Kevin Mackay as coach of Lucania for his second consecutive season with the club. Coach Mackay has coached Lucania in 5 of the past 6 seasons, winning four MSA Cups and one National Championship in that time. Coach Mackay was also awarded with the MSA Coach of the Year award this past fall.
Joining Coach Mackay at the helm this season will be Patrick Di Stefani. Coach Di Stefani has a wealth of experience as a professional player and coach in Europe. As a player, Coach Di Stefani developed in the Belgium youth professional system. He then went on to play in both the German and Belgian 3rd Divisions. Coach Di Stefani has also coached at the professional level as he was the Conditioning coach for the Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht (Belgium) and the Conditioning/Assistant coach for Royal Union St. Gilloise which is a 2nd Division club in Belgium.

Lucania Finalizes 2005 Exhibition Schedule

Winnipeg MB - Lucania is pleased to announce that the club has finalized an exhibition schedule for the 2005 season. Lucania will open 2005 exhibition schedule by traveling to Thunder Bay, ON to take part in the Thunder Bay Chill Invitational, which is a preseason tournament that will include two of the PDL's Heartland Conference teams - the Thunder Bay Chill and Boulder Rapids Reserve. The tournament will take place on May Long Weekend and will be played at the Thunder Bay Chill's new home - Chapples Park.
Lucania will then travel to Sioux Falls SD to square off against the PDL's Sioux Falls Spitfire on the weekend of June 18 and June 19. Lucania and the Spitfire locked horns last summer in Sioux Falls with the Spitfire coming away with two hard fought victories.
Lucania is also thrilled to announce a pair of home exhibition weekends. Lucania will host the Nebraska Football Club (NFC) on July 2nd and 3rd. NFC is a prominent club in Omaha NB and features several players from Creighton University who has traditionally been one of the top NCAA Division I programs in the U.S.
Lucania will round the 2005 exhibition schedule out by hosting the Sioux Falls Spitfire on July 9th and 10th.
Commenting on the schedule, President Mike Nardiello stated "once again, Lucania is happy to offer both our players and fans an opportunity to experience such a high level of soccer. Bonivital Soccer Club and Winnipeg Lucania Join Forces

Winnipeg, MB – In an effort to create one of Canada’s premier soccer organizations, the Bonivital Soccer Club and Winnipeg Lucania Soccer Club are pleased to announce that the clubs have reached an affiliation arrangement, effective immediately. Through this newly created partnership, Bonivital and Lucania have created arguably the most prominent soccer club in all of Canada!
The Bonivital Soccer Club (previously the Bonivital Soccer Association) was formed in the mid-1980s, and is one of the largest soccer districts in Winnipeg with approximately 3,000 youth players enrolled in 2004. Over the past year, Bonivital has been working on a restructuring plan, which will result in a revamping of the club’s organization and operations. At the core of the restructuring, Bonivital aims to provide the most positive soccer experience for all stakeholders including players, parents, volunteers, and fans. Part of this experience includes the incorporation of an Elite Men and Women’s soccer program.
Commenting on the relationship with Lucania, Bonivital president Alastair Gillespie states “Our new alliance with Lucania, brings many advantages to Bonivital Soccer Club, our older youth players, plus those playing in our Men's teams now have an avenue to top level premier soccer, and will be involved in joint training sessions. We will also take advantage of the technical expertise that Lucania can provide to all levels in our Club. Lucania Sportsmans Dinner and Golf Tourney

Lucania will be hosting their 21st Annual Sportsman Dinner on May 5th at the Viscount Gort Hotel. This annual fundraising event goes a long way in supporting the club's initiatives. Tickets for the dinner are $75.00.
The evening will be hosted by 92 Citi FM radio personality Joe Aiello and this year's dinner will feature local comedian Big Daddy Tazz ( http://www.bigdaddytazz.com/).
Lucania will be hosting our annual golf tournament on May 26th and the Netley Creek Golf and Country Club. We will only have room for 75 golfers so please contact the club to reserve your spot. Lucania Alumnae to join MMSL Masters Division

Lucania is pleased to announce the Lucania Alumnae will be competing in the MMSL's newly created Masters Division. The team will consist of former Lucania players. In order to be eligible to play in the league, you must be 35 years of age or older. The MMSL hopes to send the winner of the league to the Western Canadian Championships in BC at the end of the season.

The Lucania Soccer Club would like to congratulate Coach Kevin Mackay and midfielder Damian Rocke, who will be recognized at the Manitoba Soccer Association’s 2004 Awards Banquet, which will be held on October 30th, 2004 at the Canad Inns Polo Park.
Coach Mackay will be the recipient of the Dave Zacharias Award of Merit - Coaching Development, which is awarded to an active or inactive coach, with involvement of at least ten years; who has demonstrated outstanding coaching skills and abilities at the provincial, national or international level and I or contributed in an exceptional manner to the development of coaches in Manitoba.
Coach Mackay has been with Lucania for five of the last six seasons. In his tenure as coach, Lucania has won four MSA Cups ('99, '00, '01, '04), and one National Championship ('00). Coach Mackay is also credited with founding the Dynamo Youth Soccer Club in 1988, winning National Silver medals with the club in ’88 and ’90 with Lucania players/alum Marcello Paolucci, Brian Oleksiuk, Bill Klymchuk, Kevin Antonio, Bill Ezzard, Derek Simpsom, Marno Olafson, and Ryan Gruner.
We would also like to congratulate midfielder Damian Rocke, who is the recipient of this year's Frank Capasso Award of Merit - Senior Male Athlete of the Year. The Award is presented to an outstanding active senior male athlete, with involvement of at least ten years, who has exhibited excellent technical soccer skills, served as a team leader and demonstrated the principles of fair play and sportsmanship.
Damian also joined Lucania in '99 and was a part of the Lucania National Championship team in 2000, scoring the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory for Lucania over BC's West Side Rinos. Previous to this, Damian enjoyed a college career, playing for both Cornell University and Adelphi University in New York, before returning to Winnipeg. Last year's award was presented to former Lucania and Winnipeg Fury midfielder Desi Clarke.
Commenting on the awards, Manager Mike Nardiello states “both Kevin and Damian have brought a tremendous passion for winning to our team and we are happy to have them on board. It is a great honour for our club to have two members recognized by the MSA and we congratulate them both on their accomplishments.”

The red cards flowed, the lightning and thunder hit, Marcello Paolucci scored in the 86th minute and defender Ian Brown saved the day in the dying seconds last night as Lucania edged defending champion Sokol 1-0 to claim the 2004 men's MSA Provincial Cup soccer championship.
In a game of high drama, bad tempers and poor discipline by Sokol that resulted in two ejections -- along with a temporary stoppage because of lightning at the Red River College soccer facility -- Paolucci finally scored on Sokol goalkeeper Franklin Hernandez only seven minutes after Dragan Planinac was tossed for taking his second yellow card.
Earlier, Sokol's Greg Adamiec was thrown out of the game for a vicious tackle on Lucania's Franco Cassano. The ejection of Planinac left Sokol two men short from the 79th minute on and Lucania pressed, scoring on a scramble after Hernandez could not corral a rebound.
But with only seconds left, Sokol striker Nino Mandic broke in on the left side and his shot sailed past Lucania keeper Bill Klymchuk, only to be booted safely away by Brown, saving the Lucania victory. They'll represent Manitoba at the national championships Oct. 6-11 in Prince Edward Island.
Lucania will be joined there by Team United, who used a goal by Kimberly Small to beat defending champion Sweat Shack 1-0 in the women's senior final earlier yesterday.
"No one wants to see a final settled like this (with one team earning two red cards), but unfortunately that's the way it went and we're happy," said Paolucci. "We still finished the game off. We look at (Sokol playing two men short) as a bonus, but we still finished the game off."
Lucania coach Kevin MacKay said Lucania had a good work ethic and great fitness and they wore down Sokol, especially after they found themselves two men short. But when the game was suspended because of lightning with only three minutes left, MacKay warned his players victory wasn't theirs yet and Sokol would have one final burst.
"We have a little tradition on our team that if you haven't scored a goal, we call you maiden," he said. "Well, it was one of our maidens that took the goal away from them and cleared it. Ian Brown hasn't scored a goal all year, but that was probably the biggest play, just clearing it off the line there at the end.
"We're happy to be going to P.E.I. and we think we'll represent the province pretty well."
In the women's game, Team United coach Victor Sloane-Seale said his team lost 3-1 and 2-0 to Sweat Shack in the regular season and while yesterday's victory wasn't pretty, his side was well-deserving of the win.
"The kids weren't at their best today, but they were at their fighting best and that's what brought them through," he said. "They fought all the way for this. This was all about what's in here, in the heart, and they did that. I think if they play with the same amount of heart in Prince Edward Island, they'll hold their own."

Despite what threatened to be a damp weekend, Winnipeg Lucania hosted the Minnesota Blast this weekend in a two game exhibition series at St. Vital Memorial Park. Lucania edged out the Blast 3-2 in game one, while the Blast came away with a 2-1 victory on Sunday.
Saturday night's game saw both teams play at a blistering pace. All five goals of the match came in the first half, with 2 goals from Tim Colisimo and the game winner from Serge Bohemier.
Sunday afternoon's game saw Minnesota take a 1-0 lead half way through the first half when Lucania goalkeeper Adrian Magri attempted to clear a Minnesota through ball which took an unfortunate deflection into the Lucania goal. Lucania responded in the second half with Serge Bohemier's third goal of the weekend. The Blast earned the eventual winner late in the game to round the weekend series out with both teams earning a victory.
Commenting on the weekend series, Lucania manager Mike Nardiello was pleased with the results. "The pace of the games this weekend pushed our team to the limit. These games will prove to be invaluable going into the MSA Cup."
Veteran defender Russ Harder echoed his manager's comments adding "despite Sunday's result, I think we were generally satisfied with what we took from this weekend. These games elevated our fitness level significantly and we were able to come away from the weekend healthy, which is important at this stage of the season."
Lucania will compete in their first MSA Cup game on either August 23 or August 24, pending the outcome of a draw on August 15th.

Veteran defender Russ Harder echoed his manager's comments adding "despite Sunday's result, I think we were generally satisfied with what we took from this weekend. These games elevated our fitness level significantly and we were able to come away from the weekend healthy, which is important at this stage of the season."
Lucania will compete in their first MSA Cup game on either August 23 or August 24, pending the outcome of a draw on August 15th.

Lucania takes on the Minnesota Blast!

Having met earlier this season in Minnesota, Lucania will play host to the Minnesota Blast on August 7th at 7:00 PM and August 8th at 12:00 PM. Both games will be played at St. Vital Memorial Park (Fermor & St. Mary's Rd.)
Earlier this year, the two teams locked horns and played to a nil-nil draw, while in the second game, Lucania walked away with a 4-2 victory. Coming into the most crucial part of Lucania's season, coach Mackay is looking forward to the match up with a sense of caution stating, "we are eager to play the Blast again. The games will be highly intense and will challenge our team technically and tactically. At this point in the year, you want to push yourself as a team with games like this but we have to be sensible about the possibility of injuries knowing how important the month of August is in the overall scheme."
The Minnesota Blast will compete in the Men's Premier Soccer League (MPSL) a recently formed US based soccer league, in the 2005 season. Currently, the Minnesota Blast play in the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL - http://www.arenaleague.com/) - a US based professional indoor soccer league.
Admission to both games will be $2.00. All those youth players wearing their team jersey will be admitted for free!

Lucania's Robin Hart signs with A-League's Edmonton Aviators

Lucania would like to congratulate midfielder Robin Hart who has signed with the A-League's Edmonton Aviators ( http://www.aviatorssoccer.com/). Hart, who has been training and playing with Lucania for the first part of the 2004 season, is expected to be a regular contributor to the Aviator roster.
While Lucania were hoping Robin would be a full time member of the squad, manager Mike Nardiello stated "Robin is a very quick and skillful player. We would have liked to have Robin around for the entire year. But we are obviously very happy for him as he has been pursuing this opportunity quite diligently."
Once again Robin, congratulations. Keep us posted!

Lucania drops two games to the Spitfire

Lucania made the trip home from South Dakota after losing both games this weekend to the PDL's Sioux Falls Spitfire. The Spitfire, who are currently sitting in 7th place in the Heartland conference, were clearly more polished around the Lucania goal, converting on most of their chances.
Commenting on the weekend's results, coach Kevin Mackay was upbeat with the team's performance stating, "we learned some very valuable lessons this weekend. At this level, you need to have the focus to finish your opportunities. Sioux Falls did, and came away with two results. Despite this, I was happy with our ability to consistently break down such an athletic, organized club."
Game one ended 2-1 with the Lucania goal coming from striker Tim Colisimo.
Game two ended 3-1 with the Lucania goal coming from veteran defender Bill Klymchuck, who converted on a penalty shot.
Lucania are looking forward to a few less hectic weeks which will give the squad a chance to heal some wounds and prepare for the ever-important month of August which will include the MSA Cup playoff and two home games vs. the Minnesota Blast.

Lucania's 1st road trip a success!

Lucania made great strides this past weekend in Minneapolis earning a nil - nil draw on Saturday afternoon and a 4-2 victory on Sunday over the Minnesota Blast. Both contests were very physical and intense, and saw very creative play from both Lucania and the Blast.
Head coach Kevin Mackay was pleased with the results stating "Despite suffering a few minor injuries the weekend in Minneapolis was a positive experience. We played well and had a chance to get to know each other better as team mates!"
Lucania is now looking forward to their string of upcoming league games and the 2nd road trip of the season to Sioux Falls, SD to play against the PDL's Sioux Falls Spitfire.

Lucania is pleased to announce a 4 game exhibition series against the Minnesota Blast. Lucania will travel to Minnesota to play the Blast on June 19th in Rochester, MN and June 20th in Minneapolis. This weekend should be an exciting soccer weekend as Rochester will be hosting a large youth tournament.
The Blast will make a return trip to Winnipeg on August 7th and 8th.

Interestingly, we have a number of Thunder players playing for us on our indoor squad in the PASL."

The Lucania Football Club would like to formally announce the return of Kevin Mackay as Head coach of the club. After a one year hiatus Kevin returns to the club with a wealth of experience. As the head coach from 1999-2001 Kevin lead the team to an unprecedented 3 Consecutive MSA CUP Victories!(the first time in Manitoba soccer history) During a magical 2000 season Kevin led Lucania to a Gold Medal at the National Championships in Saskatoon.His resume also includes the co-founding of the Dynamo Youth Soccer Club,a power house out of the north east district in the late 80's and early 90's. With Kevin in charge Dynamo teams won Silver Medals at the National Youth Club Championships on two different occasions!
Kevin brings an "in your face" style of coaching to the table. He expects the best out of himself,and will settle for nothing less than the best from his players. The Management would like to take this opportunity to welcome Kevin back, and also to wish Kevin and any new and/or returning players good luck for the 2004 season! Des Clarke to receive MSA award
Congratulations to former LFC midfielder Des Clarke, who is the recipient of this year's Frank Capasso Award of Merit at the Manitoba Soccer Association's 2003 award banquet on October 25. The Award is presented to an outstanding active senior male athlete, with involvement of at least ten years, who has exhibited excellent technical soccer skills, served as a team leader and demonstrated the principles of fair play and sportsmanship.

Kolinski Labour Day MVP in Lucania victory

Mike Kolinski scored the only goal of the game this afternoon as Winnipeg Lucania won their fifth Labour Day Tournament in six years. They were victorious over Winnipeg Sokol 1-0 after ninety minutes of play. It was a very competitive match, as referee Joe Valente let the teams play a rough game, without losing control.
In other action Winnipeg Sons of Italy tuned up for the Nationals this morning by defeating Thunder Bay Croatia 1-0. In a testament to the Lakehead Express soccer club, the women’s final saw the Express Under-18’s going over the Express Under 16’s 3-1.
Overall the soccer was good and well worth it to go watch. Hopefully the attendance will be stronger next year as many “fans” were not there because Italia-Juventus (or any local team I guess) wasn’t playing.

The final of the Thunder Bay Inivitational soccer tournament for the women came down to a showdown between two Lakehead Express teams. Samantha Biggs booted in two goals Monday to lead the Under 18's to a 3-1 win over the Under 16 team.
In the men's final, a battle of Winnipeg teams, but with a local twist. Thunder Bay Chill striker Mike Kolinsky scored the only goal to give Lucania a 1-0 win over Sokol. Lucania took home the top prize of four thousand dollars by winning the 15 team men's event.
