Job Descriptions for Adult Volunteers

Adults/Parents:  Please consider a role in your son's Boy Scout Troop!  Every bit you can do helps a ton.  Positions run from September through August (typical school year) and you are not obligated to re-sign for that position each year unless you desire to continue the position (i.e., taking the position one time does not commit you to a life-long role!)  If we all take a turn each year in some capacity, we reduce the burden for all and make the position more enjoyable for yourself.

Communications: To establish a series of communications methods that serve Troop needs while supporting the broader goals of Scouting. To eliminate random communications, simplify the dissemination of valuable Troop information and establish a clear hierarchy of communication tools and methods. Communication activities should avoid generating confusion among the recipients. In addition, adults should let the Scouts handle their own communications rather than coordinate or communicate for them, encourage them to return calls, respond to emails or otherwise handle tasks themselves. Try not to do their job for them.

Outing Coordinator: We would like to identify an adult (s) to coordinate the behind the scenes effort to get facilities researched, reservations made, write-up outing for web-site, prepare sign up sheet, prepare permission form for outing, etc. Person would follow lead of committee and boys regarding selection of monthly outings and prepare a paper school year schedule for distribution each fall. Great position for an organized adult who isn’t interested in working hands-on with the boys. Do not have to attend outings.

Grubmaster Coach: We would like to identify an adult who will work behind the scenes with the selected grubmasters at the monthly meeting before the outing. Coach the patrols through a well-rounded menu. Make sure the shopping list reflects everything needed for the selected meals. Encourage the boys to utilize any leftover staples that are in the trailer or closet. Track on which boys need to serve as Grubmaster for their advancement. Make sure the grubmaster and his parents understand how the $9.00/boy budget works, handout coolers, etc. Do not have to attend outings.

Service Activity Coordinator: Coordinator would do all the behind-the-scenes organizing service activities including preparing information for the web-site and permission form link. Maintain a steady flow of service activities so boys have adequate opportunities to fill advancement requirements. Encourage boys and parents to provide input on potential service activities. Field invitations the troop receives Field invitations the troop receives to assist with community events, flag ceremonies, etc. Follow lead of Troop Committee and boy leadership in selection of service activities. Great position for an organized adult that doesn’t want to work hands-on with the boys. Do not have to attend service activities.
