Austin Eagles Basketball (1915-2009) 
 

At right is Jack Buzzard (1936 photo) who scored the first 2-points in the history of Austin basketball in 1914.  Buzzard had the first 30-point game as player in the school's history scoring 38 against Jeffersonville in the 1914-15 season. In 1928 he was the Austin basketball coach when we won our first sectional championship.  As a coach Buzzard won 62 games and lost 14 in 3 years.

Jump Ball Era – 1914-1937

During this period a center jump would take place at half court after each made basket. This period is known as the jump ball era.

First Austin basketball game was played October 9th, 1914 on an outdoor court in Austin against Henryville.  Austin won 24-16.
