To All BUSC Families and Coaches,
What an incredible soccer experience our club enjoyed over the past weekend at the Brunswick tournament! We should all be very proud of the players, coaches and families representing the 7 teams from our club who participated in the tournament. It was exciting to see 4 BUSC teams advance to the championship game in their respective division, and especially exciting to have the girls U12 team win the tournament by beating Seven Hills in the finals.
I wanted to introduce myself to those of you whom I have not yet met and let you know that I am excited to be working with you as the BUSC president. I am a life-long resident of Bedford Township and a 1987 graduate of Bedford High School. I married my high school sweetheart, Brenda, and both of our children are attending Bedford Public Schools. My son Aaron is currently a freshman at the high school and plays goalkeeper for the boys junior varsity soccer team. Aaron played travel soccer for the past several years, including BUSC, USASEM and Bedford Soccer. My daughter Elise currently plays for the BUSC girls U12 team.
I have been involved in the community for many years, and have served on numerous Township and School committees. I served on the Bedford Township Planning Commission for 8 years, including 5 years as chairman. I have coached youth sports for over 10 years, and have served as a former board member for Bedford’s Best Baseball. I am also very proud to say that I coached my son’s U13 travel baseball team to a Michigan state championship this past summer.
I have had the privilege over the past few weeks to have some great conversations regarding the future of Bedford Soccer with many parents and coaches, and I welcome and thank you for all of your insight on how to continue to improve our soccer program. I have a vision of a continuous thread of soccer development in the community – from recreational soccer, to travel soccer, to Junior High soccer, to High School soccer. I believe BUSC needs to be a catalyst for continued soccer growth in the community, and I look forward to continuing to build upon the great work our BUSC board members and families have done over the past 2 years. I also believe that a strong community soccer program must include the involvement of all entities involved in youth soccer – I look forward to working with Bedford Community Education, as well as both the Junior High School and Senior High School, to continue to strengthen our outstanding soccer program in the community.
I want to encourage everyone to please check the BUSC website regularly for updates on the club. We will be having a strategic planning session in the near future to discuss the direction of the club and identify goals and objectives for continued growth. I welcome all of your input and look forward to working with everyone. I am a firm believer in dedication, hard work and commitment, and I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and working with each of you!
