Thunder Mission Statement
Our mission statement
Our mission statement is to provide top quality hands-on instruction and mentoring through the wonderful sport of football. Our highest priority is our children. We believe that each youth athlete is special and should be nurtured and taught the fundamentals of hard work, unity and good sportsmanship. Our goal is to provide opportunity and competitive teams via top coaching along with providing a great environment and participation throughout the kids of Atwater and surrounding communities. We aim to instill lessons that will carry over in life after football. We urge our youth athletes to be all they can be and to place education as a top priority. We strive to become the area's top youth sports program and appreciate all the community support. The Buhach Thunder is a traveling football league (Cen-Cal) consisting of participants from the Central California area. The Team was founded in 2001. We want to inspire our youth to realize what it means to exhibit the highest ideals of Sportsmanship, Scholarship, and physical fitness by practice and personal example. The natural reward being the growth of self esteem, pride, and a responsible well adjusted individual; the very foundation of the future of our youth of today. Buhach Thunder would like to provide an opportunity for the nurturing and development of our youth's athletic ability, particularly with relationship to football and cheerleading. The Buhach Thunder give some experience to younger student's in the school district's while preparing them to play High School Football at Buhach Colony High School, Atwater High School, or other nearby high school's by teaching fundamentals and sportsmanship. The purpose of the Thunder shall be to promote and administer the youth football teams activities for the sole benefit of the teams' players. The objective is to inspire youth, regardless of race, creed or national origin, to practice the ideals of sportsmanship, scholastic improvement, and physical fitness, while familiarizing all youth with the fundamentals of football. To additionally, provide the opportunity to youth to enjoy the game of football under supervised, organized, and in a safety-oriented manner, while keeping the welfare of the participants free of any adult ambition and personal glory.
What we do?
Practice
The team conducts at least 3 days of practice a week, if not four. Team practices in order to teach skills, keep the players in football shape, perform drills, learn plays, and scrimmage. To get ready for game situtations.
Practice More....
The coaches provide guidance to help the kids learn to practice at home, on their own time, to better further their skills and learn the game of football. To help others as they learn.
Practice Even More....
The coaches practice in order to teach the kids how to play as a team, win as a team, and lose as a team. To become better people of the community.
Play
Participate in scrimmages, games, and other competitive events in order to foster a love for the game and provide a forum in which kids can apply the skills they've learned and participate in a competitive environment. Playing time will be earned in the practices above, never given but earned.
Why Does Buhach Thunder Do it?
Build A Better Community
To many kids, sports is more than just an activity - it is a social event. Active kids learn to interact with each other primarily through the extra-circular activities in which they participate. Helping kids learn through sports provides a fun, healthy, and spirited environment in which to learn valuable life lessons that create a more aware child, and ultimately, a better community.
Promote Fitness
An active kid is a healthy kid. The Thunder provide an active, athletic environment that helps kids avoid a sedative lifestyle and build a positive attitude towards physical fitness that, hopefully, will carry with them throughout their lives.
Teach Kids To Have A Positive Attitude Towards Sports
Winning isn't everything, but it sure is fun! The Thunder teach kids that there are many ways to define "winner", and it doesn't always begin and end with the scoreboard. Teaching them to love the game, and to "win" in many ways, help to develop a positive attitude within competitive sports. Help Kids Achieve Their Goals Through Sound Work Ethics. If you enjoy winning, you have to work hard. The Thunder teach kids that "winning" is achieved only through hard work and selfless play. Winning is a by product of the relationships built on the practice field.
Fun
Coaching and teaching is fun. Instructing a kid, and then watching him or her actually EXECUTE a coaches instructions, is powerful and rewarding. The volunteers have fun when the kids have fun. The kids have fun when they learn, apply what they learn and earn recognition.
Teaching Methodology
Young kids are capable of learning far more (in sports) than most parents imagine. This comes from many years of coaching experience with kids 4th grade and under. A coach must be able to break down what he wishes to teach into small, digestible components that are easy for kids to understand. Each component is then taught repetitively until the "behavior" becomes instinctive. Once all the components have been taught, the coach then combines them into "sequences" that become the foundation of a kid's competitive sports knowledge. In short . . skills become instinctive habits.
Recognition and Reward
Kids work hard to please those around them, be they parents, teachers or coaches. Important elements in getting a kid to learn include:
~Incentives - give them something to work towards (playing time)
~Instruction - teach them the skills required to succeed
~Encouragement - encourage them to better themselves
~Recognition - recognize them for effort and/or achievement, even when they fail
~Reward - reward them for a job well done
Believe In Yourself!
Thank you for stopping by.
