Chiefs call-ups and signings..
The Chiefs just called up from there minor league system INF/OF Gary Taylor. He will bring needed speed to the top of the line-up. He played his collegiate ball at Elizabeth State University where he was a 4 year starter.
The Chiefs also purchased the contract from there minor league system of OF J.T. Thomas (no relation to the manager of the Chiefs).
Also called up is left handed pitcher Michael Grant who played his college ball at Pfeiffer University.
The Chiefs made a BIG, BIG signing when they signed C Wyatt Tucker, he played his collegiate ball at Lander University and will be a welcome addition for the pitching staff.

NABA League Awards Announced
September 14, 2006 --
NEWS FLASH: OF Travis Kermode was voted Rookie of the Year by the managers of the NABA. Travis had a great year with a batting average of .480 which was third in the league. He hit 5 home runs which lead the league in that category, and was fourth in the league with 20 RBI. We are looking for even bigger things out of Travis next year.

Chiefs Land a Big Fish
January 6, 2007 --
The Chiefs have been hard on the recruiting trail and have been talking to and landed 6' 3" 235 lbs. infielder Todd Teeter. Todd is from the sunshine state of Florida. He played in the MSBL league in Orlando with the Marlins. He also attended Miami-Dade Community College from '93-'95 were he was second team all-state his freshman year. The Chiefs are looking for big things from Todd's bat in the middle of the Chiefs line-up.

2007 Draft Pick
March 11, 2007 --
The Chiefs made there first ever draft pick by picking in the 2007 draft lefthanded pitcher Tom Fox. Tom played his collegiate ball at Wittenburg University in Ohio. He had a combined pitching record of 8-9 with 110 innings pitched and 119 strikeouts as a 4 year starter. He will making a big contribution on the mound as well as in the outfield.

Chiefs hit by injury bug
April 26, 2007 --
The Chiefs have been hit by the injury bug hard this young season. First round draft pick pitcher Tom Fox is out for the season needing shoulder surgery. 1st year 1st baseman Todd Teeter is having issues with his ankle. Pitcher Derrick Helms was hit by a pitch in Sundays game on the wrist. Nothing was broken but he has a soft cast on it and hopefully he'll be back soon. Now the Chiefs are concerned with outfieflder/pitcher Mike Rice who was hit on the foot last night by a line drive.

The Chiefs sign 3 players

The Chiefs signed 3 new players to there roster. They got much needed help in the pitching department when they signed Michael and David Rue. Both played and went to college at Belmont Abbey where they pitched for 4 years. They also signed CABL league veteran Guy Koenig to fill in for all the injuries that the Chiefs have.

Chiefs to take on RedSoxs in Championship
August 7, 2007 --
The Chiefs will be taking on the RedSoxs after there win tonight over the A's in the final game of the ALCS. The starting pitcher for the Chiefs will be determined later. The first game of the 3 game series kicks off Sunday at 4:00pm and game 2 will be Thursday Aug. 16th. at 7:00pm with game 3 if necessary would be Sunday 19th. All game will be played at West Charlotte High school.

2007 NABA PLAYER AWARDS ANNOUNCED: Chiefs sweep with Cy Young, MVP, and ROY
December 14, 2007 --
In what was the Chiefs best year in there short two year history (Going all the way to the Championship game) 2 players really stood out. First we had Brian Zurhellen who not only lead the National league in hitting (.490) and also tied for third with 3 homeruns and fourth in RBI with 19. For his efforts he was voted the Leagues Most Valuable Player by the managers of the league.
Not to stop there, he was also voted the Cy Young award for his work on the mound. He compiled a record of 8-4 which lead the National league and an ERA of 1.99 which was second and 84 strikeout in just 81 inning pitched. His hitting and pitching was a big part of the success of the Chiefs in 2007 and we hope for even bigger thing from Brian in years to come.
As for the Rookie of the Year there was one person that really stood out for this award. Kevin Faulkner was another big part in the success in the Chiefs 2007 season. He lead the league most of the year in Homeruns and ended up hitting 6, most of them were either game tying or go-ahead shots and all of them we no doubters. He was also third in the National league in RBI with 19. He was also voted MVP of the NABA all-star game when he went 4-4 with a double and 2 RBI. We hope to see Kevin in a Chiefs uniform for many years to come.
Congratulations to both Brian and Kevin for there efforts.

Chiefs Sign 2 Players
The Chiefs made a big move by signing 2 to there 2008 roster. Signing with the Chiefs is utility player Sam Asis, a power hitter who will be welcomed in the middle of the batting order so the Chiefs sluggers will not get pitched around. Sam played his college ball in N.Y. with Monroe Community College.
The second signing is Daniel Palmer who will be filling in at leftfield and also coming out of the bullpen when needed. He played his college ball at Duke where he started out as a pitcher, then moved to the outfield.
Updates coming soon as the Chiefs are looking to sign even more talent for the up-coming 2008 season.

Chiefs draft 2 players
The Chiefs took 2 players in the 2008 draft. In the first round the chiefs took (SS) Me'Shaw Taylor who will be Graduating from Elizabeth City State University where he was named to the 2007 All-South Atlantic Region Second team and also CIAA Player of the year. He hit .438 with 18 doubles and 48 RBI in 2007.
In the second round the Chiefs took left handed pitcher RJ Janawsky who played for the Reds in the NABA in 04-05. In 2004 he went 3-2 with a 2.57 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched. In 2005 he led the league in wins and strikeouts where he went 7-4 in 74 innings he had 93 strikeouts with a 2.71 ERA.
The Chiefs are looking for some good thing out of there draft picks this year.

Chiefs win opening day
April 20, 2008 --
The Cheifs opened the 2008 season with a 14-6 win over the Hurricanes at West Charlotte High school. 2007 Cy Young award winner Brian Zurhellen took the hill for the Chiefs and he started out a little rusty as he gave up 4 hits and 3 runs in the first inning. The Chiefs then scored 2 runs in the second inning when David Piho walked and Guy Koenig singled. With 2 outs Zach Pittman singled to score Piho and then Jesus Acuna singled to score Koenig. The Hurricanes scored 1 run in the bottom of the second on a walk, stolen base and a single. Zurhellen then settled down and only gave up 2 singles the next 4 innings. Meanwhile the Chiefs was getting out there bats when they scored 6 runs in the third cped off by a 2 run double by Piho and a 2 run single by Wyatt Tucker. The Chiefs then scored 3 runs in the fourth inning on 2 walks and a towering homerun by first year player Sam Asis. The Chiefs finished of the scoring by getting 2 in the sixth and 1 in the seventh. Asis pitched the seventh inning for the Chiefs giving up 2 unearned runs.
Steve Pritchard, Asis, and Koenig had 2 hits apiece in the ball game.

CHARLOTTE CHIEFS BASEBALL
May 4, 2006 --
This was the Chiefs first year of playing baseball together. The Chiefs played in the NABA league in 2006 and was very successful making it all the way to the NLCS.
We have players with every type of experience in baseball. A few has played pro ball, but most of us has played either college or high school ball. So it’s going to be a well rounded team.
The 2006 Chiefs proved they were one of the top teams in the NABA going to the National League Championship series only to lose to the Cardinals who won the Championship. Look for the Chiefs to improve on what was a great first year in 2007.

Chiefs beat first year Angels 6-1
April 23, 2008 --
The Chiefs had the task of facing the first year Angels team and there first game of the year in the NABA. Derrick Helms started for the chiefs while the Angels started Kyle Cherry.
After Helms set the Angels down in order in the first, the Chiefs put 2 men on in the bottom on a hits batsman and a walk but couldn’t push a run across. The Angels got 2 hits in the 2nd from Cherry and Brent Austin but couldn’t score. In the bottom of the 2nd Guy Koenig lead off with a double and Helms help himself out with a RBI single.
The Angels scored 1 run in the 3rd on a freak play with the umpire calling an infield fly rule in the outfield. In the bottom of the 3rd Zach Pittman singled and Kevin Faulkner doubled him in, after a walk and a hit-by-pitch Wyatt Tucker grounded into a force out that scored 2 runs. D. Helms went 4 innings striking out 8 batters before giving way to just signed Alex Cost.
Cost walked the first 2 batters he faced but then set down the next 9 batters he faced striking out 7 of them. In the bottom of the 6th G. Koenig was hit by a pitch then W. Tucker hit a shot down the left field line for a 2 run homerun.
For the Angels Kyle Cherry went 2-3 and Brent Austin went 2-3.
For the Chiefs Wyatt Tucker went 1-3 1 HR and 4 RBI, G. Koenig and K. Faulkner had a double apiece.
D. Helms 4 innings 5 hits 1 unearned run and 8 strikeouts for his first win of the season. Alex Cost 3 innings 0 hit 0 runs 7 strikeouts for the save.

Chiefs lose first game with only 8 players
The Cheifs lost there first game of the year to the Astros with only 8 players. Brian Zurhellen took the loss but pitched well with only 2 outfielder. Larry Thomas and Guy Koenig had 2 hits apiece and Zurhellen chipping in with a double.

Chiefs pound Sabres 18-4
April 30, 2008 --
The Chiefs opened the can on the Sabres Wednesday night with 18 runs on 15 hits that only went 5 innings. (SS)Steve Pritchard lead the way with 4 hits, 2 of them doubles and 4 RBI. (LF)Zach Pittman went 3-3, (DH)David Piho went 2-4 with 4 RBI, (3B)Sam Asis went 2-2 with an RBI. (C)Brian Zurhellen and (2B)A.J. Anelli had a double and 2 RBI apiece.
On the mound for the Chiefs was Derrick Helms who pitched the first 2 innings giving up 3 hits and 2 runs and striking out 3. Alex Cost pitched 2 innings giving up 1 hit 0 runs and striking out 3. S. Asis finished it off with 1 inning 1 hit 2 runs and 2 strikeouts.

Chiefs lost another heartbreaker
The Chiefs and Cubs squared off for the first time this year. For the Chiefs Alex Cost took the hill. The Chiefs got the scoring going in the first inning when newly acquired (3B) Dane Phillips hit a homerun to right field. The Cubs answered in the bottom of the first with 5 runs with some wildness from starter A. Cost when he walked 5 batters. The Chiefs then scored 3 runs in the top of the second on a BB and (C) Wyatt Tuckers second homerun of the season, and then the next batter (P) A. Cost hit his first homerun. The Cubs scored 2 runs on in the bottom of the third. That was all the scoring till the top of the fifth when the Chiefs scored 2 runs on 2 singles and a 2 run triple by (CF) Gary Taylor to bring the score to 7-6 Cubs. In the top of the sixth (LF) Brian Zurhellen lead off with a single, then (3B) D. Phillips hit a long homerun to center field (his second of the game) to put the Chiefs ahead 8-6. The Cubs scored 2 runs in the bottom of the inning and shut the Chiefs down in the seventh to close out the game.

Chiefs back on the winning track
May 14, 2008 --
The Chiefs and Astros squared off for the second time this year and the Chiefs took game two 5-4 but it wasn’t easy going 9 inning.
On the hill for the Chiefs was Brian Zurhellen and for the Astros they gave the ball to Charlie Pflum.
The Astros started the scoring in the first inning on a RBI single by Pat Whitted and a RBI triple by Steve Mitrovich. The Chiefs answered in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff double by Zach Pittman and a RBI double by B. Zurhellen. The Astros scored 2 more runs in the top of the second on a 2 RBI single by Joe Kissler then Zurhellen settled down and didn’t allow a base runner past second base the next 7 innings. Meanwhile the Chiefs scored 2 runs in the third and 1 run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score. In the bottom of the ninth, with 1 out B. Zurhellen helped himself out by hitting a walkoff homerun to deep leftfield for the game winner.
The Chiefs was lead by Z. Pittman 3-5 (2B), B. Zurhellen 2-3 (2B) (HR) 2 RBI, Dane Phillips 2-4 2 RBI.
The Astros was lead by J. Kissler 2-3 2 RBI, P. Whitted 1 RBI, S. Mitrovich (3B) 1 RBI.
The final line on Zurhellen 9 innings 7 hits, 4 runs all earned, 2 BB, 8 strikeouts.

Chiefs beat Hurricanes in rain short game
May 18, 2008 --
The Chiefs used a great pitching performance from Alex Cost to beat the Hurricanes 7-0 in 5 innings shortened by rain. Cost threw a complete 1 hitter for the Chiefs first shutout this year. The Chiefs started the scoring in the first inning on a RBI single by Kevin Faulkner and a RBI fielder’s choice by the NABA’s RBI leader Wyatt Tucker. In the third inning the Chiefs scored 4 runs on a RBI walk by Guy Koenig and a 2 RBI single by Gary Taylor. In the mean time Cost was shutting down the Hurricanes bats when he faced no more than 4 batters in each inning of the 5 innings of work. Then the rains came and shortened the game with 5 complete made it a legal game.
Steve Pritchard and Me’Shaw Taylor each added a double.

Chiefs take Angels 11-0
May 21, 2008 --
The story of the game was the pitching of newly acquired Even Denton as he threw a complete game 3 hitter, walking none and striking out 13 batters. Dane Phillips went 3-4 with 1 RBI, Wyatt Tucker went 3-4 with 2 RBI, and Kevin Faulkner went 3-4 with a double and a long homerun (his second of the year) and 4 RBI.
This is the Chiefs second shutout in a row.

Chiefs hit the long ball
June 4, 2008 --
The Chiefs used the long ball to put away the Pirates with Kevin Faulkner and Sam Asis going bak-to-back in the first inning (Faulkner's a 3 run shot). Then again in the 5th inning when Brian Zurhellen hit a 2 run job and Sam Asis hit his 2nd of the game a 3 run blast.
Alex Cost cruised through 5 innings giving up just 3 hit and 2 runs for his 2nd win of the season.

Chiefs 1 hit Sabres
June 10, 2008 --
The story of the game was the pitching of Evan Denton. He took a perfect game into the 7th inning to lose not only the perfect game but the no-hitter when Derrick Dobson doubled down the left field line with no outs. Denton then set the next 3 batters down for the 1 hitter striking out 13 Sabres.
The Chiefs was lead by Wyatt Tucker who went 2-3 2 runs scored, MeShaw Taylor went 2-3 with 3 RBI, Zach Pittman 2-4 2 runs scored, Gary Taylor and Dane Phillips each had a double.

Chiefs beat Red Sox for the first time
June 17, 2008 --
The Chiefs broke through for there first win over the Red Soxs in there 3 year history. Brian Zurhellen pitched a great game just giving up 3 hits against a potent Red Soxs line-up. In the first inning Zurhellen walked and Kevin Faulkner hit his league leading 4th homerun of the year, a 2 run shot off losing pitcher Wes Hepler. The Red Soxs scored 1 run in the bottom of the inning on a BB to J.D. Vidal who swiped 2nd and 3rd then scored on Dowd Mayes single. Andrew Romberger singled in the same inning only to be left there on a flyout. Maye singled again in the 3rd and thats all Zurhellen gave up as he set the last 14 batters down that he faced. The Chiefs score 2 more in the 4th on a RBI double by Wyatt Tucker and a RBI single by Gary Taylor.
For the Chiefs Faulkner went 2-3 with a HR and 2 RBI, Steve Pritchard 2-3 with a double.
Zurhellen a complete game 3 hits, 1 run (earned) 4 BB, and 3 strikeouts.

Ciefs beat Astros on another walk-off homerun
June 22, 2008 --
The Chiefs beat the Astros for the second time on a walkoff homerun. The Astros were dominating the game for 6 innings as the Chiefs couldnt get anything going offensively as starter Sean Andrews gave up only 5 hits through 6 innings. As for the Astros, Kirby Holmes started off the game with a leadoff homerun off pitcher Joey Cress who was making his NABA debut on the mound. The Astros score 2 unearned runs in the third on an error by the Chiefs shortstop. Again in the 5th the Astros scored 2 runs on another homerun from Kirby Holmes, and scored a single run in the 6th on a RBI single by Joe Kissler to run the score to 6-0. In the bottom of the 7th the Chiefs loaded the bases on a hit batsman, walk, a strikeout for the 1st out, and a base hit by J. Cress, after a flyout for the 2nd out they scored there first run on a base on balls to Gary Taylor then Brian Zurhellen hit a bases clearing double to run the score to 6-4. Dane Phillips then singled up the middle to put runners on the corners, Kevin Faulkner then belted a three run homerun to give the Chiefs the victory.
Joey Cress got the win going 7 innings, giving up 7 hits, 6 runs (4 earned) 2 BB, and 8 strikouts.
For the Astros K. Holmes went 2-3 2 HRs, and 3 RBI. Jim Berger 2-3, J. Kissler 2-3 1 RBI.
For the Chiefs B. Zurhellen 3-3 double, 3 RBI. D. Phillips 2-4 and K. Faulkner 1-4 with the game winning homerun and 3 RBI.

Chiefs belt Braves
June 24, 2008 --
The Chiefs scored in every inning on 4 homeruns, 2 by Kevin Faulkner, 1 by Brian Zurhellen and 1 by Gary Taylor (his first in his NABA career). Zach Pittman went 3-3 a double and 2 RBI. Faulkner also has 5 RBI.
Even Denton pitched a 4 hitter in 5 innings giving up the lone run to S. Sprouse who hit a solo homerun in the 5th inning. Denton also had 10 strikeouts.

Chiefs beat the Angels
July 13, 2008 --
Joey Cress pitched a complete game for his second win of the year. The Chiefs got a first inning grandslam from Kevin Faulkner (his league leading 8th of the year) and never looked back. Zach Pittman went 3-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Brian Zurhellen went 2-2 with 2 RBI and 2 BB. K. Faulkner went 3-4 and was a triple shy of the cycle with 5 RBI. Me'Shaw Taylor had 2 hits and Wyatt Tucker hit his 3rd homerun of the year.
Cress finished with 8 strikeouts.

Chiefs beat Sabres
The Chiefs and Sabres played a good old back yard game with a mix-up with the umpires, they took matters in there own hands and called the game themselves and I have to say it went real well with no blown calls.
Kirk Rauch started for the Sabres and gave up his first homeruns ever when Kevin Faulkner took him deep 2 times for his league leading 9th and 10th homerun and Brian Zurhellen hit a laser over the left field wall for his 5th of the season.
Alex Cost took the win for the Chiefs going the distance giving up 4 run (only 1 earned) and 11 strikeouts.
Zach Pittman was 2-4, 2B, 1 RBI. Wyatt Tucker 2-3, 2B. Guy Koenig 2-3, 2B, 2 RBI. Evan Denton 2-3, 2B for the Chiefs.
