    Rules & Regulations
    I. ELIGIBILITY
    To be eligible to participate each player must meet the following requirements.
    A. Academic
    1. All students must have passed 3 units (subjects) an last year's 2nd semester report card (70 is passing).
    2. Candidates must be on track to graduate as defined by the Georgia High School Association.
    B. Physical
    Each student must pass GHSA physical, and it must be on file in his/her coach's office.
    C. Insurance
    Athletic insurance will pay for everything your family policy does not, or all if not covered by a family policy.
    D. Parent Consent Forms
    Parent consent form must be on file in coach's office. This form states that the parent has read the handout and has given the athlete permission to participate.
    E. Fall Workouts
    All candidates for all teams must begin practice at announced time and date if not already involved in a previous sport.
    F. Migrant Students
    A student may try out for one of our teams when he/she has registered at our school and is declared eligible.
    G. Quitting
    Having selected a sport, student athletes shall not quit the program in season to try out for another sport or take part in an off-season program until the sport in season terminates. If a cheerleader quits the team during the year, he/she will not be eligible to try out the following year.

    II. TEAM CONDUCT

    A. The Eastside High School athlete must remember that his/her actions are representative not only of himself or herself, but also of the entire program, the school, and every other individual involved. Any deviation from high standards of general conduct will necessitate disciplinary action. These standards apply to the classroom as well as the athletic program. All players are to be respectful to all teachers and follow school rules. Good sportsmanship is expected. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
    B. Any rules violation can be dealt with at the discretion of the coach. It is a privelage to participate on a team, and this privelage can be taken away at any time at the coach's discretion.
    C. Because of the time which must be committed to the team, athletes must not allow other activities, clubs, or jobs to interfere with athletic activities. Only academics will come before athletics.

    III. GENERAL GUIDELINES

    A. Attendance: It is your responsibility to know the practice schedule, attend, and be on time. If you cannot attend or must be late, you must notify one of the coaches in advance.
    1. Excused Absences: An absence in which the player has notified a coach before he/she misses and discussed valid reasons for the absence. The coach will decide if it is excused at this time. If excused absences become excessive, dismissal may result.
    2. Unexcused Absences: An absence from practice or game that has not been approved by the coach.
    a. 1st offense- discretion of the coach
    b. 2nd offense- discretion of the coach
    c. 3rd offense- cut from squad
    B. ISS/Suspension from School: Beginning one week prior to the first contest or event sheduled for any designated sport or extra-curricular activity, students suspended out-of-school will be suspended from all activities (practices, playing, dressing out, sitting with teams, etc.) during each full day of suspension. In the event that noe designated event or activity takes place during the period of suspension, students will miss the next game or activity scheduled during the season for that sport or activity. Suspension ends when the student is physically readmitted to the classroom. Students assigned to ISS will be suspended from the next appropriate game or event scheduled from the date they are assigned to (begin) ISS. Students may practice with their team or organization when assigned to ISS.
    *Additional consequences may result as determined by the coach.
    C. Transportation
    1. Practice- Players are expected to have transportation to and from practice. If this is not possible, see your coach.
    2. Games- team members are expected to travel to and from away activities with the team. Parents should contact coaches for exceptions in special circumstances.

    IV. MAJOR INFRACTIONS
    Violations of any of the following rules will result in immediate dismissal from the team.
    A. Rule 01-Alcohol: Selling of or attempting to sell, possession of, use of, or under the influence of on school property or at a school event.
    B. Rule 05-Drugs: Selling of, attempting to sell, distribution of, possession of, use of drugs including tobacco products on school property or at a school function..
    C. Rule 39-Assault and/or Battery on School Employees: Engaging in an assault on and/or battery of any school system employee or student on or off school property, if school related. Touching, striking, pushing, or threatening the person, bodily or psychologically, and/or the property of any school system employee.
    D. Rule 40- Assault and/or Battery Against Students:
    Engaging in offenses involving extreme intentional violence on school property or at a school related event.
    E. Rule 84- Conduct Outside of School Hours or School Activities:
    A student who has been arrested, charged, or convicted in a court with felony or an offense which would be considered a felony if the student were an adult, or is charged with an assault upon another student, a violation of the drug laws or sexual misconduct of a serious nature and whose presence at school is reasonably certain to endanger other students or staff or cause substantial disruption to the educational climate may be disciplined or excluded from school.




    Cheerleading Additions
    In addition to the rules and regulations governing all student athletes and the rules in the student handbook, Eastside High School cheerleaders should be aware of the following:

    1. Cheerleaders and parents will maintain a working relationship with coaches. Athlete's will follow coaches' instructions. Any concerns will be communicated directly to the coaches first.

    2. Cheerleaders will attend ALL required practices, contests, conditioning, summer camps, fundraisers, etc. If a practice is missed, the athlete will be required to make it up. Coaches will give a set time for make-ups. If they are not completed on time, the athlete will be required to forfeit cheering in the next game or contest.

    3. A cheerleader who misses the practice before a game or contest shall not cheer in that game, but will be required to attend. Anyone who has an unexcused absence from practice or a game will not cheer in the next game, but will be required to attend.

    4. Cheerleaders must ride the school bus to and from away games or other school-sponsored functions. Cheerleaders may be released only to their parents at away games if they present written permission relieving EHS and the coaches of responsibility of their care. If a cheerleader misses the bus, he/she will be counted as absent and will not be allowed to participate. No other method of transportation will be accepted. ALL WRITTEN REQUESTS TO RIDE WITH A PARENT MUST BE TURNED IN 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE.

    5. Cheerleaders are not to talk to spectators (including parents) while in formation and cheering at games/practice.

    6. Cheerleaders will follow all safety and sportsmanship rules set forth by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

    7. No jewelry is allowed at practice or at any time when in uniform. Cheerleaders will not chew gum while in uniform or at practice. All hair must be pulled back from the face and off the shoulders when in uniform and for practices, games and any other performances. Fingernails must be trimmed to the ends of the fingers to ensure the safety of all squad members.

    8. Practices will be closed to anyone except coaches and administrators.

    9. If an athlete is injured, it must be reported to a coach.

    10. Eastside cheerleaders are at all times representatives of Eastside High School, their teammates, their coaches and indeed, their community. Given this fact, they are held to a higher standard than other athletes. Cheerleaders must conduct themselves in a fitting and proper manner. Behavior which is dangerous, illegal, or unbecoming will be addressed by the coaches and/or the administration and may result in probation or dismissal from the squad. Each case will be examined on an individual basis.

    11. All cheerleaders will be required to volunteer a minimum of ten service hours in the community.

    12. Cheerleaders will not be allowed to participate if all payments have not been received before the first game of the season they are cheering.

    13. EHS will provide athletes with uniforms. Any athletic equipment furnished by the school must be returned clean and in good repair at the end of the season. If equipment is damaged or destroyed, it must be paid for by the athlete. Cheerleaders may not lend their uniform or any part of it (including warm-ups) to a person who is not a member of the EHS cheerleading program, nor may it be worn at a non-official function.

    Consequences of not following rules and regulations:
    Infractions of the rules will be dealt with in an immediate
    manner by the coach.

    Consequences may include, but are not limited to:
    extra conditioning, probation, suspension, and dismissal.
