15U's Wrap Up Season @Junior Nationals
July 28, 2009 --
The 15U's wrapped up their 2009 Spring/Summer season with a 3-2 record at the USJN 15U Championships. The young ladies also participated in the USJN 17U Championships a few days earlier were they played up and finished with a 3-3 record and advanced to the playoffs. College Scouts were in the house all week and hopefully some liked what they saw and will be contacting our girls...lets keep our fingers crossed.
This season saw the girls go for 37 Wins and only 16 losses. They played in Atlanta Georgia, Hampton Virginia, State College Pennsylvania as well as various gyms around the DC/MD/VA area. They also won the 2009 Potomac Valley Regional Championship for Division 1 in the 15U Division.
As the girls go back to their respective High Schools this Fall, lets hope they carry their knowledge and experience from this Summer back with them and have a productive school year. Good Luck!!

13U DI Nationals
July 15, 2009 --
The Division I 13U National Championships were bitter sweet. The DC Heat 96 Girls made it to the Championship winner's bracket, but could not pull off consecutive wins. Injuries once again played a part, but the experience they gained from this exposure to top competition was priceless. Competing in the National Championship atmosphere will encourage the ladies to always bring their "A" game as we prepare for the US Junior National Championships.

15U's Ballin' In The South
July 13, 2009 --
Fresh off of Penn State Tournament, the 15U's hopped on a flight to Atlanta to play in front of 120 College Scouts. The young ladies did not disappoint. For the Tournament they went 4-1 and drew large crowds of college coaches to their games. Hopefully they liked what they saw. Next up, the US Junior Nationals where the young ladies again will be playing up. They will first play in the 17U division and will then turnaround and play 15U as well. A tall task for sure, but the girls are willing to take it on.

High Praise!
June 24, 2009 --
96 Family, I would like to extend a heartfelt Congratulations to all the girls on their performance last night in the High School Team Shootout. You all were the only middle school team in the Shootout and you even took home 1 win out of 2 games.....not bad at all. While you can't win them all, your effort and poise was commendable. You showed you can play with anyone. In case you didnt see, my 15U girls were down on the court watching and cheering for yall in your 1st game and they all (including my parents) were impressed and proud that you were representing DC Heat. And when yall lost to the Evanators in the 1st game, my girls were like....."oh no, we gonna take care of them for yall". So we proceeded to smack them down by 40. That was for yall, big Ladies standing up for the lil' ladies :-)
Keep up what you are doing, there is a bright future for you all. If you work hard in school, train and play hard on the court......the sky's the limit. Just as today some of you may look up to my girls.......Tomorrow there will be girls looking up at YOU...................You Are The Future!!

This weekend was a success at University of Virginia Team Camp Jamboree as the girls finish 3-1 with an all-around strong effort. The DC Heat girls continue to gain valueable experience in difficult situations. We are proud of the girls and their effort this weekend and it showed as the DC Heat girls were one of a number of teams being praised by the coaching staff of the University of Virginia Womens basketball.

13U's @James River Blaze Classic
June 1, 2009 --
Despite injury, the girls played well and the 7th graders proved to be ahead of the class. Dajah Johnson has gained tremendous experience at the point guard position and is doing very well directing the team. Alexis Nolan and Kiara Colston provided energy offensively and defensively with an all-around game. Alexandria Eldridge continues to show everyone how athletic and savvy she is. Kirby Porter has the ability to play all five positions and Sara Woods is the constant performer. She scores, rebounds, and block shots as a guard playing the post position. Our lone 8th grader, Jasmine Dancy proved to everyone that she can finish around the basket and rebound hard. Keep working hard girls! Nicola Ekuban and Lindsey Spann will return from injury this week while Eboni Staples continues to rehab her knee. Get well soon Eboni.

DC Heat 96 Girls Qualify!
May 18, 2009 --
The coaches want to thank the DC Heat Girls 96 Team for a courageous effort in the Potomac Valley Division I Regionals finishing in 4th place and qualifying for the Division I 13U National Championships. After losing 3 girls to injury over the weekend, we played the medal round semi-finals with only six 7th graders and gave a trememdous effort. We fell short of our goal of winning the Regional Championships, but it wasn't because of a lack of effort. We are so proud of the girls that words doesn't do them justice. Thank you again girls for all your hard work. Now it's time to heal up and get back to our winning ways.

2009 15U Gold Medal Champions ...................
May 11, 2009 --
Congratulations go out to the 15U DC Heat Girls team for winning the 2009 Potomac Valley Regional Championship. The 15U's beat the WFBC Mustangs 65-61 in a thrilling Championship Game from start to finish.
Both team came into the game undefeated, both winning all of their respective Pool and Semi-Final Games. Our girls hopped on the Mustangs out the gate and never looked back. Although we lead the entire game, the Mustangs were never out of it with their amazing 3 pt shooting keeping them close to the very end. But it was our day, our game and our Championship. Great Job girls it was a total team effort.

15U Goes To Boo
April 20, 2009 --
The 15U's went to the prestigious Boo Williams/Nike Invitational this weekend and performed well. The young ladies went 3-0 in Pool Play and advanced to the playoffs. In their Saturday night 1st Round game the 15U's won a nail biter in double overtime that ended close to 10:00pm against a very disciplined NJ Panthers team 55-53. In the 2nd overtime with 1 second remaining and the score tied Brene Moseley was fouled. She stepped to the line and hit 2 of 2 free throws to secure the win. Brene ended the game with an astounding 31 pts.
In Sunday mornings 8:00am Semi-Final game the girls came up a little short. It was nip and tuck the whole game with DC Heat up a few....then our opponent Tennessee Team Pride up a few. But in the last few minutes of the game our girls just couldn't pull it out. Tennessee Team Pride rolled off a couple fast break layups and foul shots to stretch their lead and win the game 64-51. A valiant effort on the girls part considering their double overtime game the night before.
A great weekend overall. Girls, we are proud of you all.
