2006 Player Awards
TEAM MVP - CHUCK TALLEY
Chuck could be renamed as "Mr. Consistent", especially offensively.
He led the team in a number of offensive categories. Batting average(.480), On Base Percentage(.623), and Slugging Percentage(.980) to name a few. Year in, year out, he always produces at the leadoff spot in the lineup. He had a down year on the bump, but he made up for it at the plate.
GOLD BAT - JON YOUNESS
A free agent pickup for 2006, Jon stepped right in and gave the team some much needed firepower offensively. He finished the regular season with a .456 batting average, and led the team with 27 RBI and 26 hits.
GOLD ARM - MARK MCCALLA
Mark's stats this year may not look award worthy on the surface, but you need to look deeper than the stats. There were many times this season when he had solid outings but no help defensively. A pitcher can't do it all, he has to have a supporting cast.
GOLD GLOVE - MIKE DUDLEY
Mike, in his second full season from a brief layoff, had a great year with his leather. He very well could be dubbed "Mr. Versatile." Positions played this season were SS, 2B, LF, CF, and RF. Whatever position he played, he played it well. He made some nice highlight catches during playoffs in RF. Also, I should note there were many times he showed up to the diamond riding on little or no sleep the night before from working at the fire station. Mike always went balls out no matter how tired he was. Great to have him back on the squad.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - TODD HERRMANN
Todd, an import from the Cornhusker state, was a nice addition to the team this year. He provided depth at SS and 2B whether it be as a starter or a mid to late inning change up the middle. Last few games of the season and playoffs as well, his defense really came together. Looking for him to build on what he did this season and carry that a step further this fall.
TEAM PLAYER - GREG FISHER
Greg, another out of state import(California), displayed a solid attitude all season. He filled a variety of roles this season. Relief pitcher, starting pitcher, and our main left fielder. He ended up being one of the more consistent outfielders this year.
PLAYOFF MVP - MARK MCCALLA AND ROYCE CARNLEY
I am giving this one to both Mark and Royce because both of them earned it.
It never fails, when the season is on the line, Mark thrives on the pressure and always turns it up a notch on the mound. This year was no different, he forced a game 3 in the semi-final round vs. Bandits. Pitched a dominant game, going the distance, giving up just two earned runs and scattering 6 hits in extending the series to a deciding game 3. Also, helped his own cause by getting a couple of RBI in the game and a couple of hits.
Game 3 vs. Bandits. Win and go to the Championship Series or go home. Royce took the hill for this game and you could not have asked for a better outing. Royce should have gotten the win. Pitched a complete game, gave up just 5 hits, and just two earned runs on a bloop single to centerfield. Pitched through pain the last two innings, but our offense only managed four hits and no runs.
Two back to back dominant pitching perfomances with the season on the line deserved Playoff MVP for Mark and Royce.
