Baseball
Welcome to DYSA Baseball! Delanco is one of five towns in the
Riverfront league which is affiliated with Cal Ripken Baseball. The
Riverfront league consists of the following towns: Burlington City, Edgewater
Park, Delanco, Riverside & Willingboro. The Riverfront league started
a charter with Cal Ripken baseball in 2008, and the league has grown in
popularity. The Riverfront League is a play for fun league which starts in
mid March and runs through mid June. DYSA starts off the spring sports season in
early April with an opening day party with music, face painting, arts and crafts
& a ceremony. We complete Opening Day with a few T-ball,
baseball and softball games at West Avenue field. Through the season, kids will
learn age appropriate skills and good sportsmanship. Parents should cheer
for effort rather than performance and should respect both team’s players and
parents.
Babe Ruth Prep – Is gears towards 13 year old boys who are
transitioning from the Majors 50/70(50’ft pitching mount/70’ bases) field format
to a 60/90 field format. Players will travel to towns within Burlington
County. There is usually 12 games and playoffs. The season starts in
early May and usually ends by the end of July.
Pitching clinic for boys ages 8-12 will be held in the Pearson School Gym
starting in late February 2012.
DYSA will kick off its 4th annual indoor pitching clinic that will be
available to pitchers of all skills levels from ages 8 to 12 years old. DYSA
will offer 6 1 hour classes meeting twice a week. The boys will
observe proper pitching mechanics, throwing drills, strength and
conditioning. Players will watch and observe a video demonstration on
pitching mechanics. Each pitcher will have opportunities to practice and work on
pitching mechanics and throwing drills with an instructor.
Maximum group sizes will consist of one group of 8 boys. Registration
sign-ups are limited, so please register now to secure a spot. The
registration cost is $25.00/course. Please call Rich Furniss
(856)-461-3758 to register and or if you have any questions.
Cal Ripken
District Baseball
Each year in May, the Riverfront league will host a try-out
for Riverfront players to compete for a spot on the U8, U9, U10, U11 or U12 Cal
Ripken district baseball team. There are typically 12 players per team.
The tryout consists of skills assessment in batting, fielding, throwing, and
base-running. The Riverfront commissioners will score each child on
try-out day. The best kids from the five Riverfront towns will make up the
district team. Those kids selected on the district team will play Sunday pick up
games until the Riverfront recreation season ends. After the Riverfront
recreation season ends, each district team will play 2 to 3 games a week
preparing for the District 4 tournament in June/early July. A strong
commitment is needed from the players and parents to make all practices and
games. The format for U8, U9 & U10 is 46/60(60 feet base paths and 46
feet pitching rubber to home plate). The format for U11 & U12 is 50/70
play format.
